Just gonna slightly correct Mint in case anybody doesn't know: It's not so much based on "real life." The SS Ourang Medan is considered an urban legend and is likely not a real story. There is no evidence beyond newspaper articles the ship ever existed or that any of the events surrounding it actually took place. The Wikipedia article on the issue should be titled "SS Ourang Medan" if you wanna start reading about it. "Man of Medan" is what the ship name would translate to, Medan being a city in Indonesia. If without this information you wondered where tf the "man" in the game title comes into play, yeah me too.
