Sam makes a big improvement in the workshop by adding a dust curtain. This eliminates chips and dust flying in places that he wants to keep clean. Watch this video for details on how he put this together and what he used for the components of this dust curtain.

This is a great idea Sam. I think the drop cloth is much better than plastic. It has to be more durable. Nice method of securing the cable. I do appreciate videos on things like this. turning videos are good but most don't have many innovative ideas in them. Thank you for sharing. Have a great 2025 and stay safe.🙂🙂

This is so simple and effective. I purposefully positioned my lathe in a corner and then added a bookshelf (back) as a third wall. As you said, it does not eliminate dust and chips, but it does nicely contain them. Thanks for the idea.

I made one with a tarp, ceiling to floor. Eye hooks on ceiling with thin ropes attached to bottom of tarp. I pull the ropes to draw the tarp curtain up to the ceiling and out of the way. Keeps my table saw free of shavings!

Looks like a very good addition to your shop. I need to do something similar because my little shed gets covered in shavings and dust when I turn! Thanks for sharing Sam 😊

Great Idea Sam. I did something similar with a shower curtain and a U-shaped curtain rod.

Thanks Sam. I will use this idea to keep the lathe dust off of my ham radio gear. 73

Nice curtain...I did a similar thing in my basement with clear shower curtains and window shades. These really contain the chip and dust so that everything stays somewhat free from all the debris from my lathe. All my other machines are in my garage.

Great Idea Sam! I have a similar set up between the shop and Racine's car. My Daughter in Law sewed a bunch of bed sheets together and I strung them from front to back with a set-up like you have to hold the cable. Doesn't catch it all but reduces it by quite a bit! Take care, Dave

@@davidmorgan7522 yes I have had this only a week or 10 days but I already see a difference. He was just so unreal how much dust and crap got into that one corner and behind my chopsaw and drill press. Don’t know why I didn’t think of this long time ago. Hope you’re doing well. Glad the holidays are behind us. I just got back from a week in California. We were nowhere near the fires tough going for a lot of folks. Have a safe 2025. And it’s the year I turn 75 😳.

I had a solid curtain, but it blocked too much light. Not I have a motel style bath curtain that has a clear upper panel that lets in the light, but keeps the dust the dust restrained. Also, the tight weave sheds dust better than the old curtain. A swing arm or hinge and heavy threaded rod is great for when you can only do a wall mount on one side.

Been doing the same thing for years, though I surround just about my entire lathe (I no longer bother with the headstock end most of the time). But, I use cheap muslin material. Lighter weight and cheap.

My drill press makes a bigger mess than my lathe I think. I seldom need it, so I’ve been covering my bench with a thin painter’s plastic to catch the worst of it during use. A curtain wouldn’t work but there’s gotta be a better way.
