If you get all the special orbs (Mementos) it unlocks a special cutscene near the end. Also, the game is based on the 5 stages of Grief (Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance) Gris is happy and singing at the beginning and when she falls to the ground it represents some major death(Probably her Mother). Every new color you bring back represents the stage of grief and brings Gris closer to acceptance. That's why at the end when you find the statue lying in a coffin and sing it says Acceptance.

This was a triple A studio that faithfully depicted someone going through the five stages of grief. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. The main character lost someone and we get to experience the emotional journey. I've played this game several times, it still makes me cry as she finally comes to terms with the loss of her partner, overcomes her grief (the darkness) and moves on. Thank you for playing such a beautiful game.

As someone who has dealt with and overcome the five stages of grief, without any foreknowledge, I could tell that GRIS was about the five stages of grief. There were many times during this playthrough that I was just in tears. It's not that I was sad - this is a relaxing game - but that I *understood*.

Cordiellia there’s a secret ending where gris was little and the woman from the statue was with her, watching stars was her last happy memory with the woman probably. And the song’s name is Mae, it means mother. So probably it was her mother but interpretation is always welcome.

I got teary-eyed at the end. I feel like Gris lost her mother (also it seems the two used to sing together), so when the grief emotion hit her, that's when the statue fell apart and she fell, which is where the first stage of grief came about along with her losing her voice from it. So guiding her through the stages (maybe also rebuilding memories she had of her mom in her adventures), Gris was finally able to accept it, saying her last goodbye to her mom.

I think there's a game curator on steam and on twitter called "Wholesome games" and it's definitely the best place to find out about new indie games! really fits with her channel. My personal favorite is wandersong and it's really basically Night in the Woods if it was filled with much more positivity and love, since both Wandersong and NitW are 10-hour-long story-focused adventure/platforming-ish type of game. Definitely the best game I found out thanks to WholesomeGames twitter.

GRIS from what i heard is the daughter coming to except her Mother's Suicide. She goes through all the stages of Grief and finally in the end excepts it as she moves on. It is honestly a piece of art like none i'd seen before. GRIS means Gray in French.

I dunno how many people picked up on this but it seems that the four colors the character recovers are representing four of the five stages of grief, the fifth being acceptance, which is the last achievement unlocked by the player. The further the character goes into her recovery from grief, the more she restores her former “color.” Most likely, the darkness represents her own struggle and self doubt, and beings like the turtle and the tree cube would represent how helpful support from others is during the process of grief. I would also assume that the woman who shattered at the beginning of the game is the loss the main character is grieving over.

when you figure out that gris in Spanish means gray which could represent the feeling of sorrow and emptiness that she feels but then she gradually regains her meaning and strength back by traveling through this world and rebuilding herself by filling her world with light. this game is pretty deep.
