In today's guitar lesson we look at an exercise that teaches you music theory. Exercises can be powerful for many reasons and one of those reasons is that once we are already playing the notes and improving our rhythm, technique and tone, we can simultaneously learn about music theory and how the fretboard works.

Thanks for bringing out some interesting concepts re the never ending well of scales, arpeggios and triads. Use of a delay pedal is one I will try, to add some interest and complexity. Cheers!

Fantastic ! Really interesting exercise. Could you share a little more info on how you got the amazing delay sound please ?

Thanks so much! Sure. I was using a flashback X4 delay looper pedal. I had it on the 2290 mod setting with an 1/8 note subdivision and I tapped the tempo of the exercise with my foot. And the delay feedback were at about 12 o clock. If you have a different delay pedal, see if you can tap the tempo and select eighth note and you should be able to get somewhat of a similar delay-scape, Hope that helps!

I don't think you explained this well at all. It's great if one already knew everything that you were teaching, scales, theory and the exercises. Sorry not sorry, I'd call it one of the worse music theory lessons I've ever witnessed.

Keep in mind its a (great) lesson designed for players at a given level of proficiency, in Mitch’s words “once we are already playing the notes and improving our rhythm, technique and tone, we can simultaneously learn about music theory and how the fretboard works”. There’s many levels to learning music theory including sight reading. All chords & tablature were displayed throughout the lesson, perhaps take screen shots and create a guitar lesson file to return to once you’re at an intermediate level. Hope this helps

Wow Shaun, thank you for such an honest reaction. Not sure what Mitch did to you to deserve your hate. But since we are here, can you post a link to your teaching page? Obviously you must be a master teacher? Anyhow, please share your knowledge not piss on others.

whoa ! someone is having a BAD day.... yikes. Maybe take your views elsewhere sir. I think that you do not understand the value and talent/skill that Mitch embodies and possesses. You seem like you are trolling (which at your age is rather odd and sad.....) positive vibes and gratitude will go a LONG way in life hit the road Jack

I think you need to know a little about playing guitar to appreciate this lesson. Perhaps you need to seek out learning guitar for beginners. Get some of that done and return to this lesson.
