@@MyName-4884I bought a fake Les Paul Custom from one of those Chinese websites... they had wine red Chibsons (that said Gibson on them) and an Epiphone too. The paint job on the Epiphone simply LOOKED better, so I bought it instead of the fake Gibson. Back then, a legit Epiphone LP Custom sold for either $499 or $599 here in the US, and it didn't come with a case. This fake one cost a little over $300 and it came with a case. In those days, the Chibsons came in a plain black generic case. When it arrived, it came in an official looking Epiphone case, and it had hang tags, a warranty card, and a user's booklet too! I'm still not sure if it's a "real" Epiphone or not.

Aren't Epiphone's made in China? so a Chibiphone would also be made in China? this one clearly has the wrong headstock. but if it had the right headstock. it might be a little more difficult to tell an Epiphone from a Chibiphone. the Chinese guitar builders have gotten much better at building the copies over the years. to where they are going to be more difficult to identify. especially if the original and the copy both come from the same Country. which means a person is going to have to inspect them with a fine toothed comb. to be sure they aren't getting a fake.

I hate Gibson but this is interesting. The guitars in this video are definitely nothing to scoff at. The gold tops that you see in here are nothing compared to one that came through a guitar shop by me. It was a Les Paul gold top that I saw years ago. This was more than twenty years ago now. This guitar looked as though it had been dragged down a gravel road, set on fire then, pissed on and flushed down the toilet twice, and as if someone had walked all over it while wearing football cleats! The binding was so worn on side where your arm would sit that it looked like someone had sanded it that way then polished it. The gold was green, there were dings and dents all over it. The hardware looked as if someone rubbed all the gold off and then soaked it in battery acid. The rings around the pickups were worn from playing and the fretboard was just as bad. The knobs looked as if they had been set of fire then pissed on! Every part of this guitar looked as if it went through a war and everyone stopped for a moment every day to took turns playing it. The finish was mostly gone on the back side. The binding was just as bad on the neck as it was on the body. Someone played that every day and it looked every bit as bad as the one in this video. It originally had mini humbucking pickups but they were replaced with regular humbuckers and the pickguard was just as trashed as everything else. So dirty and worn was this guitar you almost had to get a tetanus shot to touch it! If I remember right it had been owned by the same guy since it was new. If I am right that first one might have been it. I would have to watch this video again to be sure but it was really bad. The gold was green and all the finish was checked and badly worn. If not the same guitar featured here then it was really close to its twin because the pickguard was worn through in a couple spots and there was no end in sight to the damage. Let in be known that this was horrible in its appearance! It's a miracle that guitar made it that long. Most people have very sweaty hands when playing under hot stage lights for hours each week and this guitar looks as if it lived TEN of most guitars lifetimes!

Good grief, even the hummer "grill" bit was the wrong color. Maybe it's because I'm an honest person, nut I don't mind Chibsons. I own one, and bought it for a fair ($200) price since it was meant to be a decoration that I'd never resell, but stuff like that first Epi are meant to decieve. And all said, if I was a piece of garbage, I bet I could sell my counterfeit for $1k+ to an unsuspecting person. That said, there are MANY tells that my guitar is fake and ANYONE who values guitars beyond just giving a passing glance would pick up really quickly that mine is a fake. Not the least of which is green/slightly askew tuning machines, deep carved (after finish) serial number and plug and play epiphone pickups. Either buy the guitar from a reputable shop, or buy it from someone who's willing to take inconvenient pictures. There's not a soul on this planet who won't take a mildly inconvenient 5 minute photoshoot to make a quick worthwhile buck for a legit product..

I'm suspecting that, maybe, the Epi Les Paul I bought is a fake. It has Epi branded pickups but they seem a bit on the weak side. The bridge is branded "Ibanez" underneath. I called Gibson and they linked the serial number to a 2003 Korean made LP, but said that it was a tobacco burst when in actuality it's a sun burst. I took it to a music store for their opinion and they didn't think it was a fake! But, I read that a bunch of unfinished LP's were ripped off from the factory and that, maybe, it's where the faking comes into play.

@@solarismoon3046 vintage means an item is at least 20 years old. An antique is 100 and up. Fun facts
@jacobnewell7845 Жыл бұрын
But yeah, the lesson here is that Vintage does not necessarily mean it's valuable. The determining factor for value in the used market (which does include the Vintage gear) is whether or not the piece in question has any desirable traits. A great example of this are the early 2000's BC Rich V's. They have that horned head that looks Metal AF, and they're made in Korea, too. But since they have a desirable trait, they're worth more because people are willing to pay extra for that desired feature.
@solarismoon3046 Жыл бұрын
@@jacobnewell7845 Nope! Not even close. FIFTY YEARS or more is considered vintage - not twenty. I don't know who you've been talking to but they have no idea what they're talking about! I've been a dealer and collector of both new and used vintage and modern equipment for more than thirty years and no one I've ever known says twenty years is considered vintage. Modern equipment although old is not considered as vintage - that refers to a quality that is not standard fare. In other words that modern guitar that can be bought and sold all day isn't going to vintage or sold on the vintage market. It's just old - not vintage!

I do a lot of repair work on guitars and unfortunately I come across a ton of fakes but almost half are less expensive guitars Like Epis, Squires, LTD, Schecter and so on. I would bet there are more fake less expensive guitars being bought and sold is most people assume they only fake the expensive brands so no one is looking out for them. A lot of these less expensive brand guitars are a little harder to tell than the real deal is because a lot of them are made is the same factories. You have to really look and compare I take detail pictures of guitars I know are legit so I can compare. Some guitars it could be just a couple millimeters difference where the knobs are mounted. I find fakes with bolt on necks tend to have sloppy neck pockets. I am sure I missed fakes here and there. One of the biggest fakes I see now is knockoff Hello Kitty Squires a guitar no one wanted when it came out but now pay anywhere from $600 to $1000.
@solarismoon3046 Жыл бұрын
You can blame Steve Terreberry for that! He's the one that started this because he plays amazing music and mostly heavy metal. This was because no tough guy wants to be seen with a pink guitar. He smashed the myth that these couldn't be made to sound good. So when he went to get a Hello Kitty guitar to show that the world needed to understand that these guitars can rock everyone and their damned brother started seeking them out! They were originally $180.00 with a gig bag, a strap, a cord, and a pick. Now you can't even get one with just a guitar alone for less that $700.00 to $1,500.00!!! Yes I realize just how ridiculous this really is.
