In this video we tour The Skulley Bus, a diy skoolie/school bus conversion that has allowed this young family of 4 to live completely free of utility bills and rent in their self built home. It's not their forever home, but this major lifestyle change is allowing them to spend more time up as a family and finally save for their future. This bus has it all with a cozy living room, functional kitchen, washer and dryer, bunk beds for two kids, and a separate shower and bathroom. Jen and Jake did an amazing job with their school bus tiny house and we're delighted that we got to film a tour. Please give them some love on Instagram: / skulley.bus

I don't always have time to tell the whole story in every video. It is KZbin after all. But I'd like to mention that this family has no intention of living in a school bus forever. They are actively saving to buy land and hope to build their own home some day. With their skillset I think you will all agree that they can and will build an incredible home for their family. In the meantime they are living a remarkable life together in their beautiful self-built home and it absolutely deserves to be applauded.

I lived in a converted school bus! we left to bus seats facing each other; with small table between! the back end had a full tub mini hot heater heater, sink and regular toilet! I had that place looking like a 5 star hotel! My husband built a room on the front of the bus my the door! Were some very happy days; hills outside Yuma Arizonia!

This family is a perfect example of what they call “contentment” and they really count their blessings. It’s not the material things that count, it’s the thought of having a “HOME” not a house. 🙏🏻

Just shows that we don't need a lot of "stuff" to be contented in this life. We should pay more attention to what is purcalating within our souls than what the world is calling us to do or be. Learning contentment is a jewel.

I disagree. While a school bus may be a "home", it won't last forever. If it breaks down you have to find a hotel. Eventually, it will stop running and you will be homeless while people who bought an actual house will see their home appreciate in value.
@mikeyness1933
@mikeyness1933 Жыл бұрын
@@CMV314 You couldn't be more wrong in your way of thinking. Everything on that bus can be repaired and/or replaced. Majority of people who are homeless lost their houses and property and the ones who go this route rarely end up "homeless". Matter affact it's actually quite opposite, Majority of people who live this lifestyle tend to progress higher into owning their own homes and land due to them not only being able to save money, but also having a better state of mind when it comes to money management and what have you due to the process of going from struggling to getting back on their feet by going this route rather than trying to jump and go into life long debt by trying to hurry and purchases an actual house.
@CMV314
@CMV314 Жыл бұрын
@@mikeyness1933 You have zero research to back up you statement. The "Majority"? Back up your statement with research. Meanwhile, the average home appreciation rate is 14.5% annually. This is backed up by long standing research. Meanwhile, the average vehicle depreciation rats is 15% per year. Furthermore, it's a myth that living in a bus/van will save you money. When your vehicle needs repairs, you will have to stay in a hotel. That can be very expensive, even in a budget hotel. The average RV park rate is 50$ a night. That's 1500 a month, which is in line with rent. Not to mention the stress of constantly wondering where you can park to sleep and constantly dealing with issues of having enough water, power, etc. And who said people are "hurrying" to buy a house? You have no research to back up that statement. In fact, over half of all homeowners made a down payment of at least 20% - far from "hurrying" to buy a home.

8:43 Boys are so funny, everytime I had a busy day and had to take them with me, I would tell them to go pick out some toys to bring. Everytime my son would bring a clothes hanger and a stick... or several of them..... He would leave them in the car so when I would open the car door and ton if hangers and sticks would fall out...hahaha He would pretend they were bows and arrows! Hahaha good times.... he is 19 yrs old now and my daughter is 15yrs old

Amen sister!! Lol. I’m a single girl RV~er and live alone in my rig. It is just great for one person. It’s basically a really cool, tiny home on wheels. But you wouldn’t believe the number of people that live like this as a family. My next-door neighbors have a rig about the size of mine, but they are a family of five living in it. That just blows my mind.

@@danbutts1003 I never really had claustrophobia, but just looking at this video made me very claustrophobic! The ceilings are too low, and everything is too tight! Even I alone could not live there on a regular basis. Maybe for a few days of vacation for one person it’s OK... And that shower, you can’t even move your arms normally, while you’re there. But to each their own I guess! All the power to them if they’re able to live there, 4 humans and 2 animals, for years! To me, it’s a real disaster 🤯😳😱

As someone who lives boondocking in my rig even though we're not paying a rent or mortgage best believe they're still bills I'm paying for. Mainly consisting of food for a house of 4 as well as paying for insurance for all 4 of those people previously stated. Gas, maintenance, propane, water, repairs and insurance are paid for this rig and my daily driver to get to work. Cell phone bill also. Savings, basically there is still a lot of things you need to pay for and manage when you're living this kinda lifestyle. Don't jump into this without considering that.

My niece did this. She bought the bus, removed all the rows of seats and gotten it then built the cutest little house I've ever seen and though its a small space for her, her 3 little ones, two dogs and two cats, it feels incredibly spacious. She had no building or design knowledge but she did all of it by herself. She has a cute kitchen, family area, her bedroom which easily accommodates a queen bed, a bathroom with a shower and composting toilet. She has a system set up so she reuses gray water. She built 4 bunks for the kids with an indoor swing, tons of storage and an indoor hydroponic garden! She took on this project with a dream and a vision and she made it hers. She also has the solar panels so she is 100% self contained. She homeschools her children so they just travel all over seeing the states and learning about the different climates, landscapes and habitats as well as edible foods that grow in those areas for foraging.

@@MobileDwellings I wish I had pictures! She used bamboo and cut out the holes for the plants to go in. She also left the windows in the bus so she had wonderful natural light throughout and could enjoy 360° views from inside as well (she made cute cotton curtains for when she wanted privacy) but where the plants were, the curtains were over the plants from the interior of the bus so the plants were still in full light but the depth of the set up was merely a few inches so it didnt take up any interior space. The best way I can think to describe it was it was in rows, slightly tilted on each opposite end kind of like a zig zag so the water could move down from the top, to the bottom and watering the plants on the way then at the bottom there was a pump to pump it back to the top to keep the water moving. It took up very little space! I hope you could understand what I was trying to say...
