Am fairly new subscriber and must say I enjoy your vids and your commentary is easy to listen to. The Barber dime would be 90% silver ( here in Canada our silver was 92.5% up till 1920). Nice to see those hammy's come up and maybe you would missed them if the whole field was open to you 😉🇨🇦

@steveshepherd271212 күн бұрын
@CrosbyCollects 1920 was the year silver content changed because WW1 was so expensive the debt was crippling, here in Canada we dropped to 80% up till 1968 and then 50 % for half of 1968, now steel clad , the U.S. stopped silver in 1964. Finding foreign coins is always a blast and I was thrilled to find an Australian 50 cent piece here even though it is modern . Keep on digging amigo 😉

@@CrosbyCollects I tell you what, if you haven’t already you need to thoroughly research the history of that field. With all the pot legs I reckon you’ve got an early settlement ground. Might be worth getting a local archaeological society to have a look and see if they can detect any evidence of post holes for early huts or houses on that land.
@CrosbyCollects12 күн бұрын
@ do you know how I would go about doing that, aside from the obvious? I’ve looked at old maps and google but nothing? Maps for that area go back to 1800’s. Further back from that are very generic, just making mention to the local towns etc and nothing in depth. The permission has had archeological digs on it before, unfortunately due to housing development potentially happening 😢 However I have no idea if this field has been. I’ll check with the farmer!
@raymondberry948212 күн бұрын
@ find out if there is a local museum. They usually have lots of information going way back. Failing that you could try local libraries. They have old maps and would certainly have info on the local area and its uses over the years. There’s also a website (I can’t remember the name of it now) but it has maps going back 100’s of years of all areas and it overlays old maps onto new ones so you can see old footpaths and where old buildings used to be - but on a present day map. I’ll find out what the website is called and let you know.

Is the soil in England acidic? In Finland, most soil and clay fields are acidic and it is toxic to old Swedish and Russian copper coins. A copper coin that is already 200 years old may be in poor condition. Coins are better preserved in sandy fields. Forest finds are more often in better condition than field finds.
