Tried the clips out and love them brother. Questions thou…..I got a dozen pilchards and out of those I say around 4 were cut offs (sharks, cudas, kings???) and like 6 lost (off the hook)..…couldn’t land any mutton on the boat today. Also with this set up due to such long leader I couldn’t even feel the bite at all…..(although I just noticed I might got way over 40’ of leader comparing to the amount of line u got out from ur reel) Kind of frustrating day but thats what fishing is about -will keep trying until I got it.
@CProFishingWithWayne Жыл бұрын
Either you’re getting cut off by sharks or by structure. Move further from the reef or wreck structure and work the sandy areas. Leader length depends on current so anywhere from 20-50 feet depending on strength of current. What size flouro were you using? Use Gamakatsu Octupus circle hooks size 4/0. Hook large Pilchards inside the mouth straight up out the hard bridge of the nose and they won’t come off. Leave the rod in gear and put it in the rod holder. The Mutton will hook itself. It will usually have a violent hits with the rod bending over. Sometimes with lighter current they eat and sit there. You’ll see slight movement on the rod tip. Wait a bit and then reel fast until the hook sets. Don’t jerk back and try to set the hook.

Kingfisher clips tangle way too much for me. Not sure how you're able to avoid the braid spinning and/or thr leader wrapping up with the braid but its been headaches for me mostly. Went back to hand lining
@CProFishingWithWayne8 ай бұрын
Hard to say unless I watch what you’re doing. Does it happen to me? Yes, but hardly ever. It might be a combination of line quality, depth, current strength, weight amount, and the way the bait is hooked.

Where did get those clip on weights,most tackle stores,or did you order them? I know they cant be cheap by your response when you lost that one overboard. Nothing is cheap anymore LOL.BUT THEY WORK GREAT on those rigs!¡!
Add a bank sinker clip. If you buy the ones that comes with it it’s more expensive and they use cheap ones.

@CProFishingWithWayne Жыл бұрын
I caught ten with 5 keepers two weeks ago before it got rough in just two hours. They’re there all winter. Target sandy areas off drop offs on six mile reef. Hint is to target 200 feet off wrecks that are near reef also. Long leaders only 30 pound flouro with 3/0-4/0 octopus circle hooks. Use ballyhoo. Butterfly them and hook from underneath the jaw through the hard part of the head. Tight lines.

I usually spot lock over sand near hard bottom and wrecks, and also drift off the reef drop off in the sand if the current is right. I have only fished twice in the last four months. Blew up my motor and put a deposit on a new Susuki but there’s a long back order. I’m working on a channel update video and footage from my last trip.

Nice catches. Good tips. Do people use downriggers out there? They're expensive but with all that leader you use it seems like it would make things easier. Also when you get a fish it's just you and the fish and no weight. 👍

Thanks Brett. Too much tension on the downrigger. There would also be too much slack on the release letting the fish get in the reef.

I enjoy your videos. You provide great and helpful commentaries. One suggestion I would like to make: AS an expert, you should not keep fish, which are barely legal. I suggest you insist on at least 2" above the legal limit. I personally, throw back any fish, which ar enot at least 2 or 3" above the legal limit. One good reason....not much to eat !!! Also, you want to allow juveniles to grow a bit more before ebing harvested. Thank you for the great videos (I learned a lot from the one you were thrown overboard)
