The guys went full horror movie mode quite quickly. At least when a bunch of angry armed men come to complain about wtf you are doing there, every sane people would leave the scene asap, not trying to explain themselves, taking photos or showing up banknotes. Escaping uphill is also crazy.

There is an alternate ending where she makes it all the way back to america before the vines inside kill her. It flashes forward to her grave and it's covered in the vines.
