Seen a friends brain literally break during a stimulant binge.. Schizophrenia and/ Psychosis ran deeply in his genetics and that switch just turned on was hospitalized for years on n off of meds aka same old story until he decided to unplug himself. I just think if he had gotten help, say when he started patrolling his house to protect his family from demons, maybe he would have been in a psych ward getting help instead of attacking, killing, and eating innocent people. Shoot, if his mom would have driven him to the hospital after finding him drinking vegetable oil instead of taking him back to the restaurant like nothing weird had happened, maybe these people would still be alive. What he did is absolutely horrifying, and there's no excuse for it. I just can't comprehend how the people in his life ignored the signs...
@robynbeach31984 ай бұрын
@oliviarussell6258 I'm not sure if everything was fully covered in terms of how many times his family sought help, but Mr Ballen did say help was sought. He was clearly schizophrenic, and schizophrenia usually shows up in early adulthood. Drug use doesn't actually cause it, but it can activate a gene if it's already present. I can say with total confidence that it very well may not have been his family that failed him. My brother in law became schizophrenic in early adulthood after drug use and he's been in and out of prison for 20 years, and now my little brother has been presenting with schizophrenia for about 2 years. Every time he loses it or becomes violent they'll arrest him, take him to ER, they'll hold him in psych for a few days, once in a while up to a month, and when they decide he's no longer an immediate danger they release him to our mom, who's dealing with cancer herself. I've tried letting him stay with me, but it became too scary of a situation for my kids. My mom has looked into all sorts of long term programs, but none of them will keep him against his will. Medication will help to some extent, although the side effects can be horrible, but none of that matters unless someone is forcing him to take them, which isn't easy. He's typically a sweet, kind, quiet, loving guy that loves animals and kids. He got excellent grades in school and was a stellar athlete. But when he snaps he snaps. He can run at high speeds for miles, he's a hurdle jumper, and he gains unbelievable strength. He'll fight police, he even punched me once. It will start with crying and sadness and wanting to hug and cuddle, then he just snaps. Idk your religious affiliation, but I've honestly considered demonic possession as a real possibility. Last time I unfortunately didn't feel I had a choice but to call police, they wrestled him to the floor in my mom's kitchen and I watched him bend his head all the way back to his back and his eyes went fully black, whites and all, and be started laughing this demonic laugh that didn't sound like him at all, it sounded like something from a horror movie. They took him to the ER where he began acting normal and told them I was the crazy one, and called the cops on him just for having a bloody nose. So they tried to release him back to me. I refused and demanded they call psych, events following that lead to him punching me. They kept him less than a week and told my mom it was her fault for leaving him alone! HE WAS TWENTY THREE!!! And before anyone jumps to an argument about free healthcare, he's on my mom's insurance which covers everything, and she's even offered to private pay for a long term program at several very nice places, but they won't make him go because he doesn't want to. He's been court ordered to take his medication, but they still won't keep him when he doesn't. We've researched everything we could possibly do and we're out of options. I have no idea what I'll be able to do for him when our mom is no longer able to let him live there. She's thrown him out before only to have him end up in dangerous situations and get arrested. But they still just turn him back out. I won't even agree that there's no excuse, because this is a real illness that he can't help and didn't ask for. There's no sound decision making going on in the mind of a schizophrenic! He needs to be in a facility that's equipped to deal with him for whatever amount of time it takes even if, God forbid, that means his whole life. Or until a bigger advancement is made in medicine. America has the most advanced Healthcare in the world, yet even without being financially restricted, they can't, or won't offer him anything else because people have protested and insisted that locking people up for mental illness is inhumane. It's true that people were mistreated when we had long term mental institutions, but turning people who needed them out to the streets was not the answer! Now there is no recourse for families like us! We're stuck trying to take care of him ourselves at the expense of our own lives and safety until either the laws about his so called "rights" are changed, or something terrible happens and he ends up in prison instead of a hospital that can provide him necessary care.

Schizophrenia is a mental illness that appears at the age that young people are in late teens or early twenties. That’s why some college students could potentially suffer from schizophrenia in their early adult years when they never showed signs of mental illness. A friend of ours had a daughter who began showing signs in college and eventually had to be hospitalized in a mental institution for treatment. Another friend had a granddaughter who showed signs of a mental breakdown and then committed suicide. My son in laws best friend in college was diagnosed with it and it was a total shock to everyone. Parents and others have to be aware of the signs of depression, and other symptoms and actions that may be present in children and students that could potentially be a threat to themselves or others.

I remember this story it pissed me off so bad his family didn’t do a damn thing! They knew something was wrong and he needed help 😢 His family failed him now two innocent people are dead 😔

And he couldn't go to the doctor or make an appointment on his own? He's a grown ass man; psychosis doesn't mean you're always outside of reality. If he realized something was wrong, he should've gotten help. Sure, his family sucks but it was his responsibility to take action once he started feeling weird. Being mentally doesn't absolve one of all accountability.

Hahahah! 😂 my search history is crazy. My husband and I don’t lock our phones and use each others phones. And I’m always like…just stay out of my search history! That’s my only rule. 🤣 He knows I search up the craziest things when I’m bored or when I’m watching videos. But he’s seen my search history before and just thinks it’s funny. I can only imagine if the fbi or something went through my phone. They’d think I was insane. 😂

32:12 That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard you say, Lewis. You train the dog to know who is acting aggressively and to bite them. Plus, dogs normally just know. Often, no training is needed.

So young men (teenage to young adults) is usually when schizophrenia really presents itself in the person, however, drugs and alcohol can extremely exacerbate those issues. It’s important to not only know your family history but also understand that if you choose to do those things then it can bring the problems on. Also even if it doesn’t run in your family history, if you do enough drugs and/or alcohol, you can induce yourself into schizophrenia. Once a person is fully in a schizophrenic delusion/psychosis/hallucination, you are very hard pressed to break them of that. It has been said that it seems like the person has inhumane strength and endurance that can turn things very quickly. Anytime you think you need help or your family/friends are acting strangely out of character, it’s important to try to get them help ASAP.

Not only young men, it happens to women as well. It’s a terrible illness to deal with as a parent. Just when you think you’re going to send your child into the world, you find out you have the rest of your life or theirs to be a caregiver to someone who will never be able to function normally.

I don't think he actually intended to do this. I think he was mentally ill and fell in with the wrong crowd at college. Drugs change a person it something they never where in the first place, I know from experience. The family should have done something, but there is also so much you can do when you're dealing with adults. It's sad. I think he belongs in a criminally insne institute, not prison.

A baker act requires one of two conditions. Police can baker act someone on a scene if they are in an active mental health crisis. The second option is a family member has to go to court and fill out paperwork petitioning the courts to issue a baker act. At which point it is treated like a warrant. The cops show up to your best friend's house during a sleep over because your control freak mother found an essay you wrote for school and used it as "proof" that you were suicidal. But then that is my own childhood trauma. My mother weaponized the baker act. I had 14 because everytime we got into an arguement she would have me locked up in a psych ward instead of talking to me.
@kristinwojtowich89022 ай бұрын
Im so sorry to hear that 😔 Parents that weaponize the system just bc they don't want to act like parents are the worst. I hope you're doing well now ❤

Nah...this was more than drugs. I'm pretty sure his urine screen came back either clean or just weed and weed doesn't do this. He was having a major mental break. It seems like schizophrenia is a possibility. Very violent schizophrenia (which is rare). He's the right age.

@@LaLaLonna his brain was irreparably altered from the drugs . You cannot do heavy drugs at such a young age with already having those mental issues . There was no coming back from that for some.

That story is so incredibly sad and scary. I couldn’t imagine if that happened to me or my husband or one of my kids. Like just imagine waking up in a hospital to find out you went crazy and ATE people til they were dead and you have absolutely no memory of doing it! Like I don’t even know if I’d want to live after that. And I’d be horrified if anyone I knew did that. I’d feel so broken. Man. That’s a heartbreaking story all around. They were literally all victims. But Austin’s family can easily be blamed though some because he was giving clear signs that he wasn’t okay and saying weird shit and they just took him to a restaurant and to the beach??! Like nah…if someone I love is talking crazy and they aren’t aware of wtf they’re doing I’m taking them to a hospital period. No stops. And his mom did nothing either. Smh People need to take mental health crisises more seriously because this is unnecessary and didn’t have to happen
