Unfortunately had a very similar experience with Funky Bop. Tried giving them many chances but…decided we’re done with them for the foreseeable future. I’d be curious what mega grails you picked up!

Yeah, I honestly had been putting off buying from them because I knew this is what it would be like from your videos, Poppin Duo, Keetons, etc. but I figured I had to at least give them a shot. Yes, I haven't been a fan with Funky Bop for awhile, I think a bunch of them where from when Marvel Corps were on clearance (which killed value from some of those) and some of the other pops were from bulk sale from Gemini most likely. Just quality isn't there. I did enjoy their Funko Soda box run a bit ago.

Got a $100 box last month, it was full of nothing but pops I can get online for super cheap and my “top hit” was also a Seinfeld pop at $20. It’s either top box or bust with these guys

Yeah, there’s really nothing worse than opening a mystery box to find a bunch of Pops that are currently sitting at Target/Walmart/Five Below. And then the real kick in the gut is when the “value” is higher than retail and you don’t even scrape back the cost of the box.

Yeah, that’s why I prefer buying from companies who I know are sourcing from collections (like Boomloot/PKP) rather than current retail shelves. I don’t mind getting one or two brand new Pops, but there has to be a balance.

To be honest and fair we kept giving Funky Bop opportunity after opportunity in recent months and this is exactly the kind of boxes we kept getting over and over again, there was also about 5 other channels buying his boxes all around the same time and it was the same thing with them too. Way back when we first started the channel we did pull a top box from him and it was a really great valued box but nothing great since then.

Yep, 100%! And your videos, along with some from Poppin Duo, were some of the ones I remember watching and thinking, “hmm not sure if I want to buy from that company” lol. Just seems like they buy a lot of new releases and overstock and stick them in their boxes which is kind of why I also slowed down on Mystery Grail.

I've bought a few mystery boxes and I've never hit anything worth the money I spent. Last box I bought was $65 from H1K and my top hit was a Wal-Mart exclusive Shang chi. So that broke me. I taped it back up and threw it in the storage room.

That’s brutal! Yeah, if it weren’t for me having the channel, I probably would only buy a couple mystery boxes a year. They’re really only worth it if there’s a high guaranteed value and there are good odds at getting a hit that you actually want. Otherwise, usually better to just buy whatever Pop you’re going after.

Not to harsh in my opinion for what you got you were actually nice about it, it’s refreshing to hear honesty I watch channels not going to name names but are only positive which is fine do your thing, but situations like this you need to call it like it is that’s just absolute garbage. And on top of that good luck trying to sell those pops for what “ppg” says they aren’t pops that anyone wants.

For whatever reason, I think there are people who are afraid to offend certain mystery box companies, but if there are a few thousand people who are going to watch this video, it means a lot to me to be as honest as I can and hopefully help people make better decisions about where to buy. And you’re completely right, if PPG says these all were worth $135, I’d be lucky to get $80-90.

Yep, it seems like they put in a lot of retailer exclusives that are overvalued on PPG. It’s a big pet peeve of mine when companies do that. I don’t mind getting a couple newer Pops, but it’s just taking advantage of PPG when they put in a bunch of stuff that’s still sitting on shelves.

@@TheFunko411 yeah, our box was a similar experience to yours. This was months ago and we actually pulled two of the same Pops. We also didn't get a pictured Pop as stated in the post. I also didn't like when they did a box run with customs as a hit and declared their customs having a $50 ppg. Don't think that's right. Anyways, thanks for the awesome video!!

Yeah, I’ve had the feeling lately that opening mystery boxes on the channel sometimes makes it super difficult not to be negative. I feel like I’m much happier and positive when I’m opening sodas, mystery minis, or even just doing random unboxings. It’s just tough because people love watching mystery box content.

Great video today, but not so nice pops. I think your criticism of that company is spot on. Actually, I think you were a little too kind. Those boxes were pretty much junk, especially for over $200, they should reimburse you something, especially considering they said guaranteed value. Imao mystery boxes are a bad bet and horrible way to collect. You're spending real money for products given fantasy values. PPG has always been over valued. Case in point, found a pop at 5 below had PPG value of $40. PPG is the silent partner of every mystery box company. Buy the pops you want and save yourself money and the frustration is my advise.

I completely agree. I literally started this channel specifically because I wanted to show that most mystery boxes are a bad bet. The numbers speak for themselves. If I didn’t have the channel, I’d probably buy 1-2 mystery boxes a year. And you hit the nail on the head about PPG being the silent partner of mystery box companies. The companies benefit the most from PPG inaccuracies. They can justify buying collections from people for super low, and then they can turn around and sell at 100% of PPG. It’s like Vegas and they are the house.

Mystery box companies benefit the most from PPGs pitfalls that’s for sure. They buy collections for 30% of PPG and then sell it them for 100%. With that said, I prefer buying from companies that I know are actually buying collections, like Boomloot and PKP, rather than buying from places that are just dumping overstock new releases.
