Today is August 1st the 79th anniversary of the Warsaw uprising which started on August 1st 1944. This game will be a bit emotional playing for me as a Polish American but it is a game I have wanted to play for some time. The Warsaw Uprising was the largest Uprising of World War 2 and despite it being so major receives very little to no coverage in World War 2 games. The Nazi occupation of Warsaw was so brutal that if a German soldier was killed by the Polish resistance the Germans would executed between 50-100 random Polish civilians in retaliation. People were tired of the terror and wanted it to end once and for all. The entire city had rebelled and had initial success until the Germans send their tanks in. The uprising lasted for 2 months and ended in a defeat of the Polish resistance. Thousands of resistance fighters were executed and sent to concentration camps. The Nazis had mass murdered a quarter of a million people in the city and Hitler being so furious with the uprising ordered the entire city to be destroyed. The Nazis went door to door with flamethrowers burning most of the city down with people inside the buildings. They shelled apartment buildings and by late 1944 the entire city was destroyed. 90% of all buildings were destroyed and Warsaw became the most destroyed city in Europe during World War 2. One of the main reasons the uprising failed was because of a lack of support from the Soviets. The Soviets who were approaching Warsaw had halted their advance and despite numerous radio calls from the Polish resistance begging them for help they did not answer. The Soviets also did not allow the British and American air force to use their airfields to resupply the Polish resistance with air drops. The reason the Soviets did not help is because Stalin wanted the Polish to be a shield for the Red Army and wanted them to take the majority of the losses. He also did not want the uprising to succeed because he would not have been able to create a communist puppet state in Poland after the war. Stalin had allowed Poles to be slaughtered by the Nazis.

I am very glad that you are playing this game to spread the information about the Warsaw uprising in 01-07-1944 during the World War 2, since not many people in the West know about this historic event. I live in Warsaw and even up to this day there are many bullet holes left in the building up to this day from this uprising. I don't wish any city or even nation to ever suffer similar fate. For instance there was pretty horrible Wola Massacre during the first month were german solgers had genocide around 30-65k cilvilians. Ps. Patryk masz całkiem dobry strój Powstańca Warszawskiego. It’s because it doesn’t involve America. A lot not all of Americans look at ww2 as their war. When in fact they was forced into the war after not wanting to get involved. Americas seem to think the war started in 1944. Nations had be fighting the nazis for years and winning major battles and conflicts. Did America help? Of course they did but the war wasn’t won because of America. And remember they was happy for hitler to take over Europe as long as America was safe….
@tylertheguy3160 Жыл бұрын
@@warriorwebb8746 I'm an American who does like my country but I won't deny for a second that WW2 was a team effort not won by any single side. And your right about it being messed up that America stayed out of it for so long, but I look at the people in charge of those decisions and the actual boots to ground soldiers as essentially two separate entities. I have a lot of respect for the people who bravely charged headfirst into almost certain death.
@Hwje1111 Жыл бұрын
@@warriorwebb8746tbf, the Soviet contributions and to a lesser extent the British Empire get quite alot of mentions too, but that’s more due to how big both of those nations were at the time in terms of power and the fact that they were fighting at it longer.

@@tylertheguy3160 I'm British mate and I do agree America's might helped pushed the tide in our favour. The commonwealth and soviets where spread thin across numerous major battle/ conflicts. Maybe another year and we would have lost who knows. But I respect Americans and I think British and Americans have friendly rivalry but are brothers on the battlefield. I've seen it first hand. There's a few stories of Americans leaving to come to Britain and help fight. I think the Soviets part gets over looked because their communist etc.

One of the events of the Uprising that I just can't shake out of my head was the moment on 13th August when Resistance members captured enemy tank. They drove this tank so proud of themselves, but soon the cheers turned into sorrow. The tank was booby trapped and it exploded starting chain reaction of explosions that killed over 300 people, injuring many more. And then it started raining... but it weren't raindrops that started falling, it was the blood. In that moment in Warsaw there was a bloody rain falling from the sky. Once you hear that from somebody you know it just... stays with you.

You are kinda misimformed there, they thought it was a Tank, while in reality it was a Borgward,, which is a remote Controlled Vehicle which can carry about 500kg of Explosives. Also mind you they drove it kinda recklessly, while at the end it killed around 500 People.

Collective discipline is something that the imperialistic Germany of the world wars never really got over until the rest of the world beat it out of them. They did the same thing in Belgium in the Great War, if there were bridges destroyed or (alleged) snipers operating, they'd massacre whole towns.

It was one game about Warsaw Uprising called Uprising '44 but that game was really bad. The Uprising itself is still a really difficult topic in polish discourse, with every anniversary there are discussion about its sense or pointlessness. Some think the Uprising was the right way to end the german terror, but there is also many people who believe that uprising was pointless spilling of blood and the only ones who profited from the Uprising were soviets (there is even a theory that Uprising was indeed provoked by Soviets to bleed out non-communist underground). It is frustrating that many of the nazi war criminals was never brought to justice like so-called butcher of Wola (the perpetrator of the biggest massacre of civilians in the first week of Uprising), who in postwar Germany became a well respected mayor of a small town. When it comes to game itself I'm kinda dissapointed that insurgents speaks English. It just sounds weird for me and, personally, I lose the feeling of immersion.

20:10 Soviets encouraged poles to go ahead with the uprising, polish gov in exile told them not to, they knew that soviets were trecherous, but with soviets army advancing they could think that this was now or never: if they did nothing poland would be flying the red flag that was ensured... maybe they knew and decided to take the chance no matter how slim: and count for a miracle, an allies strong arming stalin? more supply drops? Paratroopers? Anything... When being conquered and opressed is asured... any way out looks promising no matter the odds... Then again maybe they geniuinely thought they could best germans at their own, that reds would respect their independence if they did, that reds wouldn't stop advancing towards warsaw and that warsaw was red's goal
