Crash Bandicoot 4 Saved the ENTIRE franchise. I know that is a bold take, and I know some heavily disagree. But Toys for Bob has essentially made the blue prints to a modern crash game and shown that a classic title like this can survive in the gaming industry today. crash Bandicoot 4 it's about time, in my opinion, saved the franchise.

For me they upped the difficulty WAY too much for unlocking all the endings. Yes Crash Warped upped the difficulty for unlocking the hidden ending also, though I feel that ending was much more achievable than Crash Bandicoot 4. I know Crash is notoriously known for its secrets. This game has me pulling out a guide at every stop however, whereas the originals (while difficult) didn’t take much to eventually figure out on your own.

The average gamer is significantly better now than in 1999… so yea. Good. Crash 1 is insanely hard too. Crash always has been. Correct strikes back is INSANELY hard to complete everything without looking anything up. I’d beat my life not a single person subscribed to CGE 106% any of the first three games without looking things up. And 99% didn’t even after looking things up. Especially on the original and also especially platinum relics on the remake

Agreed. As a kid ive beaten crash 1 OG 100%. Crash 2 took me longer given i found everything except for totally bear and blue gem. Crash 3 was a cakewalk even platinum relics werent bad when i was a kid. Even found eggipus rex by accident. The only thing i missed out on was hot coco, also known as "hidden treasure" in the beta. Crash 4 wouldnt be so bad if not for 50% of padding and repetition and levels length.

It's more difficult now, because it's like the game grew up with it's audience - unlike all the Nintendo games which refused to grow up with their core audiences and tried to stay catering to children and super casual gamers this Crash assumes the audience is all grown up and can handle a bigger challenge - by the time you finish Cortex Castle you do feel like you accomplished something

What i love about this game the most is the sheer amount of effort Toys For Bob put into making the worlds/dimensions. Every world is unique and there are no two of the same. Once you’re done with a world, that’s it. No reusing the theme of this world in a different one and the same could be said for the enemies with a few rare exceptions from the 11th dimension who are also present in Cortex Island (Makes sense, both worlds have the same boss at the end, so i don’t mind). Also shoutout to Off Beat and Crash Landed for having a unique set of enemies and obstacles that aren’t used anywhere else in the game. Bravo, Toys For Bob 👏🏻✅

Yup, toys for bob did an outstanding job with this game, they should definitely make a sequel that contains all of the solid foundations from crash 4 and improves on some of the 106% requirements while also adding new features.

Yea this game is exceptional. I’d have liked less hard boxes just way off screen and same with the gems. I thought of checking some really cool areas for gems and being disappointed one was not hidden there. That pirate level had basically an Island that look like the background you could jump to and I was so satisfied to have found out and that’s completely fair even though the gym was hidden behind something on the island. There were a couple things like that and they were awesome. Hiding them within a tree is stupid. I’d have liked a lot more hidden areas that were actually a little longer and maybe even entirely hidden maps like the original but I would’ve really liked more cut scenes into got to spend more time with the characters and masks.. I didn’t like the design of the alien worlds a lot but that’s fine. I was really disappointed they redesigned the characters. They should’ve indicated it was a different universe but they even had cut scenes from the insane trilogy. Or at least given us the insane trilogy skins. I don’t mind the art style changing some, but they didn’t need to change the character design. That’s just a continuity error. That’s a recasting Robert Downey Jr. before he died as iron man lol their designs are fine, the art style is beautiful most the time, some was worse, some was better. Don’t resident the character and have it be a sequel! At least have it be a different universe where the same events happened lol

@@SoulofStalker I don’t think they need to improve on the max completion, I don’t know if you guys play nitro fuel but those developer times are pretty challenging very satisfying. I got platinum relics on every level on the insane trilogy except for stormy ascent, I got gold and I died right at the end on a run that I think would’ve been platinum. But I did not care enough to continue to try. 106 complete needs to be insanely hard.. 99% of people shouldn’t be able to do it. If you are a completionist don’t be a crappy gamer. If you wanna complete games just to complete them, I think that’s kind of pathetic. You should want to complete games and be satisfied because you were able to do something most people weren’t. It’s okay if you don’t hundred percent a game. I did not 100% crash bandicoot four! And that makes it special for the people who did. I did more than 100 nitro fuel through developer times and the n same trilogy. But there are some things that are just unfair. That you’d have to randomly jump off of every corner of the map to find a jump into trees to find a gem almost. I like their clues for the color gems. It was my fault I couldn’t find them..

Same here, honestly they brought Crash Bandicoot back with that new entry and I think it laid the groundwork on how to make a new title in a franchise that hasn't seen a new title in years, they could easily do the same with Spyro with a 4th game or even something similar with Tony Hawk.

Spyro should have been kept by Insomniac and better marketed for Japan not changing the gameplay, and having a lot more commercials

I just hope they also embrace the criticism towards Crash 4. Specifically tone down the completion requirements, and get rid of that bs triple spin mechanic. That’s btw why Crash 2 and Crash 3 were so successful. ND realized that the no death requirement for gems in Crash 1 was too much, so they removed it.

No those were awesome. You guys just want less content. That’s not a criticism. You already have the option to play less content. Don’t advocate more content and the replay ability being taken away from people who want it so you can see an arbitrary 106% on your console. That’s pathetic lol

@@deoxysandmew2162 or just realize you aren’t good enough to beat the levels, that aren’t that hard if you play them for an hour. You don’t have to get the perfect relics. Nobody is making you guys. But if you aren’t good at the game, and you aren’t if you can’t get most of the perfect relics or platinum relics, then don’t take away achievements from people that are good at the game. Stop this communisms if making everyone bad at the game because you are. And I’m bad at plenty of games that I’m sure you could whoop me at easy! I’m not insulting you. You’d probably kill me on CoD or Fortnite or apex. I’m decent at FPS and good at halo. If you can’t beat something, get better. Plenty of people are better than you at these games and they don’t want cake walks because crash never was that.

In fact, i despise them with the passion in how much they ruined the gaming in the first place with mediocre level of quality. Now, listen up and listen up good so that you may get some sense slapped into you. If a piece of content is locked behind an achievement than in that case it should be achievable to all, not to some, given its a cutscene for possible crash 5. So locking something so valueable behind this ridiculous task, that many wont achieve is flawed game design. And do not tell me foolishly that "oh... You can just look it on youtube" THAT does NOT solve the issue at hand. Longer and bigger game does not equal to better. Since you just assumed what kind of person i am, maybe i should do the same huh? You're probably a masochist that doesnt know any better and will eat up anything thats in front of you, huh? With that being said, one more piece of information shall be given... I grew up with crash trilogy the original one and my best times on crash 3 (pal) are near close to world records, so please and be quiet you clown before throwing assumptions about individuals that have legit valid criticism so that crash 5 can be a better experience without artificial difficulty. @@shto4782 he’s joking but to beat everything is really really really hard. The base game is not once you get good. The original game you had to get all the boxes without dying. The insanely perfect relics are optional. You can still complete the game and it’s a base form and not do that. Every game has had relic Runs so you have to complete every level without dying and very quick. Platinum needs to be required to 106% crabs bandicoot. And developer times I was able to do both in n sane trilogy and nitro fuel. I’m not an amazing gamer and don’t play often. I go months without playing. Crash 4 is harder tbf. But if I really really wanted to get platinum relics for every level, definitely relics, I could. That means almost anybody can. I want only one percent of people at the most to be able to complete everything in every challenge. And not just because of a lack of trying. I want to feel good when I get achievements that are tough. Just no dumb like to do so or RNG!

@@shto4782 but when I played the demo, I did die like 30 or 40 times to beat the ice level lol but I’m pretty sure I got a platinum relic on it. it’s definitely not the easiest game to pick up in the middle of, but you have infinite lives.. I don’t think people really think it’s too hard and just completely beat the game in a run through. They’re probably talking about developer times or insanely perfect relics. The only reason I didn’t go for all those is because a polar bear. That challenge isn’t fun. It’s just frustrating because it’s hard to control polar…

Uka is cool, but it was refreshing to see the doctors be the lead villains vs them groveling for mercy all the time. Made Cortex seem semi competent again .

3:40 Bit of a flop? Dude Twinsanity pretty much flopped the hardest out of the mainline post-ND games since it not only had mixed reception like most post-ND games but it had the worst sales by not even scratching a million on two consoles versus the sales of the first 2 GBA Crash games on 1 portable console. That game had barely any appeal when it came out in 2004 especially since it was mad late in joining the open world club in which open world gameplay was done way better in lots of games before it, plus it stirred Crash into a very awkward tone/direction where the series couldn't be taking serious anymore. Its troubled development, occurred within the studio of its devs, definitely didn't help with all its unpolished & massively unfinished gameplay. That game's cult of fans nowadays is literally its only life support lol.

I get the point being made here.. But it does fall down when you look at how Crash 4 didn’t sell the numbers it could have.. And it pivoting toward hardcore high skill players and losing the casual gamer in that shuffle cost it a wider audience generally.. I’ve used this point many times but the point remains one of the best against Crash 4… My mother doesn’t play games outside of something like Candy Crush she just doesn’t game.. The one game series she did play and enjoy way Crash.. She liked the challenge they offered but they didn’t go so far as to ruin the fun being had… Crash 4 isn’t that.. It’s a sadistic game that’s made to basically put off a casual audience.. I myself being a more hardcore player noticed it in my first playthough where I was getting frustrated and worst of all… Bored by the stages length and difficulty.. I got to like the 5th world and I just stopped playing.. Didn’t even finish my first playthough of the game I was so not into what they had done with the core of the games challenges and stage lengths.. And it was immediately apparent that if I felt that way on a first run of the game more causal players aren’t going to enjoy the game at all.. And I was right.. There aren’t any casual players.. The word of mouth the game is hard got around quickly and the game was passed over by the market that used to gravitate to the series most.. See Crash is a great series it’s loved across the board.. So to cut out the largest part of that audience and make a game not for them.. And even the more hardcore players are like.. Yeah I’m not enjoying this as much as the other games.. It does beg the question about playtesting.. And the lack of it from casual players.. Every single dev should have been putting the game in front of their mother or grandmother and seeing how they fair with the game.. If it takes them like nearly an hour to complete a level in world 2 go back to the drawing board.. I dread giving the game to my mother to play because I just know she’ll get to world to.. Get annoyed with its difficulty and stop playing and have no desire to return.. That’s a failure to me.. I want everyone to enjoy Crash from the casual to the hardcore.. I’ll finish the game.. But I know for a fact I won’t return to the game ever again and I’ll never complete it again either.. I returned to the other games often.. The same will not be the case with Crash 4… So to me Crash 4 did damage to the brand.. To loss so much of the audience is a damning indictment of the end result of what they made.. I saw your interview with one of the devs and it’s good to hear that they are and have been made aware of these points from players.. But what bothered me is that they didn’t seem to fully understand the complaints.. The game demanding I MLG each level 7 times just to ‘complete’ it isn’t fun or something I want to do.. Demanding platinum relic runs whilst having to constantly press the X button over and over and over in levels that go for 15 minutes with difficult platforming to boot.. Not fun.. See the other games had these features as well.. But you weren’t making me platinum each stage before with annoying mechanics as well just to finish the game.. I could sit there for an hour or more listing off everything Crash 4 did wrong to harm the brand.. I hope lessons are learned because if they aren’t I can see Crash being shelved again as the audience that loved the games have been driven away by the new direction.. That is a tragedy and should be covered fairly and in detail.

I like that they remembered N. Brio likes the bandicoots and hates Cortex after 2. They could have just made him a generic baddie, but they found a way to justify his presence in the game without reverting him.

I've never thought about how nostalgia is a problem that remakes have to overcome to stay relevant. that's absolutely fascinating! amazing video, really opened my eyes to how important and successful Crash 4 really is.

arguably i think nst, ctrnf, and iat (and even on the run) collectively helped save the franchise. the former two brought crash back to the industry and sparked interest and demand, and iat took the goal home. on the run is(or was at launch) fun crash filler. either way i agree.

Hopefully Toys for Bob is not gonna commit the same mistake with Crash 5 of making the game's difficulty CONSTANTLY feel like bullshit (and by that I mean hidden crates, and the 3-death-gems) the levels could be a little bit easier too, that would be nice

Throughout most of the game the three death gems requirement isn't too rough but the last few realms really kick it up and make them insanely hard.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time took the aspects of the original games and created something new while keeping the gameplay the way it is like the originals. The thing is that before Toys for Bob and Vicarious Visions worked on Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon, they worked on Skylanders. They would had to get familiarized with the family friendly content before remaking the original games. I have hope that what ever Toys for Bob will work on next, I think that they will get another successful Crash title. With Microsoft’s acquisition on Activision/Blizzard goes through next year, Toys for Bob and other game studios will have more time to work on future titles while avoiding any rush development and work crunches. Crash 4 was a success all because of Toys for Bob’s hard work to make Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time really great.

What some developers need to realize, sometimes sticking to the classic style of the originals is the proper way to reboot a series. Just modernize it. You don't need to add 200 gimicks and a genre shift.

I don’t know if I would say it SAVED the franchise considering we haven’t gotten a new Crash game since 4 came out, if anything N-Sane saved the franchise in my opinion

Currently playing crash 4 because i got it for free from ps+, the game is so frustrating that i only could play 1 stage per day because everytime i play it i wanna throw my controller Toys for bob need to tone it down or just stick remaking old games, bring back vicarious vision

I agree with you i left after crash of the Titans (it felt off) but when crash 4 came out i got back in thinking there might be hope for the franchise i liked as a kid especially seeing how well they did Coco, Tawna, and Dingodile

crash of the titans is good 'tho and everyone who says it isn't are wrong, it felt a little bit off, but was still a great game, one of the best crash games even, and that's a fact. Coming from someone who grew up playing the original three games over and over and one day decided to try crash of the titans because it seemed interesting.

The key with this game is don’t look at it like it’s 38 levels look at it like it’s 38 different crash games you do one game (level) and move on to the next one… had to train my brain to do this or I would of never finished this

Crash 4 basically had it much easier than WOC, cause it came out during an era where nostalgia & playing it safe works as a selling point hence its devs trying to maintain the foundation of the originals. WOC on the other hand came out during an era where being experimental & unique from before was basically the selling point, then you had lots games being rushed by publishers, plus the platforming genre was starting to die out. So WOC playing it safe, being mad rushed, and not competing with lots of platformers definitely didn't help its reception back then. So I believe had WOC came out instead of CB4 IAT and had as much development time & polished as that game, it imo would've fared better in the era of playing it safe especially since it maintained a more successful gameplay design of the originals(Warped) instead of doing what CB4 did & out right ditching it just to perform worse than CB2 & Warped.

Crash bandicoot worlds would have been an interesting game to experience. Kinda how 1/3 of twinsanity was aced too and thats after when og concept rachet and clank style marsupial game was aced also.

Nah those games just weren’t good. The originals trilogy was and so was crash 4. It’s not complicated. The original three are fun. Everything after is basically bad and crash 4 is good. It’s that simple ;) I enjoyed WOC as a kid. And some other things. But come on lol

@@jessejive1174 not all of it, even with the flaws, you can’t say all of them were bad, I played both the naughty dog crash bandicoot games and the ones that came after, they were all good in my opinion, I speak for everybody when I say that for better or worse, Crash Bandicoot is still crash bandicoot, the original trilogies weren’t perfect, but they were well thought out to an extent, that naughty dog can make an even bigger game of crash if they continued, if not for universal’s antics, but I think that this a blessing cause, We have a company now that is handling the crash bandicoot and Spyro franchise carefully and we’ll loved more than it has ever been.

What is this click bait. Crash 1-3 Remakes are what allowed 4 to even be a thing. The remakes are what saved the franchise because it showed people wanted more... so Crash 4 was made.

As an OG Crash and Spyro fan, that grew up on the originals, I was pumped for the N Sane Trilogy, Nitro Fueled and Crash 4. But all in all, I got to say Crash 4 was far too difficult. 1) The way boxes were hidden on levels. There was no way of figuring it out unless you watch KZbin walkthroughs. 2) The levels were too long. Some may argue this is an improvement, which in some ways it is, the issue here is the relic run. Longer levels makes it all the more difficult to get a relic. 3) Too many gems. I think the OG games for the most part had this on lock. They should have just kept it to coloured gems and gems for getting all crates. 4) No run. The spin thing is hard to control, running should have been the way to go.

Nah man. I’m not being condescending or being a jerk but you really just need to practice more. I think you just want to be really good at the game without giving effort. I do agree about some of the boxes being hidden off to the side. I’m pretty good at thinking outside the box But there was stuff I had to look up. And then that made me look up things because I assumed it would be impossible to find and felt like an idiot because I could’ve found it if I played around for another hour. Because you could see the corner of something. But you never know if it’s gonna be unfair if you’ve already ran into things that are unfair. The spin is awesome and really satisfying. that last bonus world or two for the videotape flashbacks are insanely hard but they are so satisfying as well. I think I got relax on every level and if I didn’t I absolutely could. They are long and that is an improvement. The game is not too hard to just beat. But there were some things that are just unfair and I agree with you. It’s definitely the hardest crash bandicoot game to master the controls and some of the levels are really hard to complete, especially with hurrying, but they should be. I got a platinum relic I think, or the insanely perfect relic on that level where you have to use all the masks at the end

I mean, if I really tried as hard as I absolutely could, I’m sure one day I could get the plat, but way too difficult for my tastes. It’s just a non-100% playthrough whenever I replay the game. On that note, I would’ve preferred Crash 4 to have been a tad bit more difficult than the original trilogy (which were quite easy for the most part). Imo the same formula of getting crystals, gems and relics but with more levels.

I both agree and disagree. Crash 4 needed to perform exceptionally well in terms of reviews and sales if it was to save the franchise. Although the rating was great, sales were just average. If it did extremely well, we would hear that it performed quite well in terms of sales and see a sequel very soon like within two years. Personally, I enjoyed a lot of things in Crash 4. the animation is the most memorble, but I just did not enjoy much in terms of gameplay(difficulty), story, etc.. I was quite aback by how difficult it was. I never though it will go to that extreme level, especially when trying to complete the game (106%). Simply put, it is repetitive and frustrating. Agreed. From that interview, we know that muscle memory played huge role in terms of level difficulty, which resulted in devs having a clouded judgement whether its too hard or too easy. They should have had more play testers that would be fresh without muscle memory to see if they die too many times or ace it on their first try. I used to make super mario world rom hacks, and i used get feedback whether the level is too rough or not, or whether the difficulty feels too artificial. Its honestly difficult to craft balanced difficult levels as opposed to easy laid back levels. Learned that the hard way lol

I wouldn't be surprised if the game was way below expectations in terms of actual sales. Beside launching during peak covid, the controls just didn't feel right. Maybe me, but they felt so floaty and they don't compliment the level design at all (which was sh¡t due to all the hidden items have jarring locations and a couple levels where it's not obvious where to go in a linear game), especially in the last and Asian theme levels. Hell, if it wasn't for the little circle that was used for the drop shadow, I would have quit the game early on.

I don't think that Crash 4 saving the franchise is accurate. Saying it was saved suggests that the fans lost interest in an ongoing franchise. Truth is, we were always still here waiting for it to rebound. In my mind, Crash 4 restarted the franchise- not saved it. And sure, I suppose N.Sane trilogy did that too, but it kind of felt more like the trilogy took advantage of an old franchise while Crash 4 was an actual sign of renewal for the franchise.

Doesn’t mean the franchise is successful enough to warrant a sequel or that the “fans” alone to are able to sustain the franchise as is in regards to the on going games. A game dying means that mass appeal is vanishing to a dangerous degree and a game being saved means that mass appeal is returning, bringing it back from the brink of being canned. That didn't really happen to Crash. Mass appeal was never lost for the franchise. The budget just got reprioritised into more successful ventures, leaving Crash on the backfoot for marketting and development budgets, leading to the franchise being set aside. You save a dying franchise. You revive a dead franchise. You restart a franchise on hold. Some people say the franchise was dead and some say it was indefinitely on hold, but the Crash franchise definitely wasn't dying when N.Sane/Crash 4 came out. It was already gone.

Honestly if you just scrap the Insane Perfect Relic's than that takes a lot of my main criticism of the difficulty away. Crash has always felt like it benefitted from trial and error (except in Crash 1) so except for Death Routes you have as many tries as you have until you get it right (and the game also throws you Aku Aku's and earlier checkpoints if you are struggling to much). The No Death's, all boxes is just too much to ask for the levels as long and big as Crash 4's and also makes you nervous throughout most of the game (also having to remember where all the hidden boxes are) Also and I know the reason why it wasn't because it would cut into sales but...I'd recommend that if anybody plays Crash 4 now, play it on a PS5. I'm not sure if a patch has been released to cut down on the loading times for the PS4 but the PS5 being able to load faster means that having to restart levels for the Insane Perfect Relic won't make you throw your controller out the window after death 15 (although I wouldn't do that anyway...controllers are expensive lol)

I think Crash Bandicoot 4 was good but too hard. Hoping Crash 5 they have a good balance in difficulty. Also maybe have some elements from Jak and Daxter 1. Having a fun hub world to explore and portals to classic Crash levels.

As a PS gamer I'm sad the Crash and Spyro IPs are now both owned by Microsoft. As them snatching away Bethesda and id Software (Fallout and Doom) wasn't enough. There's a real chance here that either no more Crash or Spyro games will be made or that they'll be XB exclusives.

This both makes me happy and sad, because obviously I want Crash to live on, but I'm tired of so much whacky and cutesy behavior being crammed in. Whether ND meant to or not, there were a lot of not necessarily somber but lightly serious moments. I loved it. I also absolutely adore Twinsanity, because it felt like a love letter to the franchise and the comedy genre made it original at the time. But that's where Crash shifted to a far goofier mood. When It's About Time was released, any opinions I or anyone else had contrary to "Crash 4 is the best" were heavily condemned in the Crash fandom. This made it hard for any constructive feedback to reach the developers on social media (and I know I'm being optimistic in assuming it would ever reach them). I've seen more and more fans over the years making similar comments and I'm glad, but most likely it's too late for any feedback to reach the next installment. And we all know when the new game comes out, it will be a case of "love it or leave" again. Crash 4 is a fantastic game, but not a great *Crash Bandicoot* game. And I don't like the pattern I'm seeing on social media (we all remember Pokémon: Sword/Shield, right?) and amongst fans. It took me forever to finish Crash 4 because every time I went to play it, I was turned off by memories of the toxic responses fans made to criticism. I'm begging all fans, especially those with successful social media ties to the company, to begin relaying feedback of both the good and the bad of each game and what they expect. I personally would like: -main universe Tawna to be more prominent in future installments; I feel the team failed to capture real inclusion of women with alt-universe Tawna; main Tawna was recovering from being captured and forced to endure experiments (think of CB1, her character improvement in NST's CB1, and her Grand Prix debut dialogue in Nitro-Fueled); I think she has a story to tell, and if written in a way that isn't on-the-nose, it might be relatable to survivors of abuse (predominantly but not exclusively women) -Cortex showing competency and serious nature mixed with his arrogant, clumsy side--I admit, his boss battle in the airship was impressively difficult; it's just I get annoyed by the jelly raygun and stuff; bring back the paralyzing ray from Twinsanity; also please fix his movement controls, because that head dash was a nightmare to use on Shipping Error -designs closer to ND, but with freedom to include new details (ex: the heart patch and goggles Coco has, but with body shapes closer to ND's style) -more checkpoints or shorter levels if the difficulty is Crash 4-like; maybe throw some easier levels in to give players a rest; it felt like more of a punishment than a reward playing the Sn@xx Dimension levels after beating the "final" boss -the flamethrower brought back for Dingodile; the vacuum mechanic wasn't that fun but I will admit he had a unique double jump -death routes reintroduced for at least some of the colored gems; I didn't mind the red gem secret and the blue gem was a nightmare to get but wasn't hard to understand, but I would prefer getting the gems in death routes that are at worst as difficult as some of the middle levels in CB4 and an all-gem route a bit less difficult than Toxic Tunnels; also the purple gem needs to be back -better endings for 102%+; I never got the final secret ending, but that voiceover epilogue was NOT worth the 102 or 104% -(in conjunction with the previous point) less collectibles and lower relic requirements--gold tier like older games; less clear gem challenges too, though I don't mind the hidden gem challenge if they aren't obnoxiously hidden -bonus rounds to be mildly challenging, not frustrating or death route tier difficulty -Papu Papu to show his terrifying side from Crash Bash and the illustration of the scrapped Toys for Bob game (minus the dumb plant on his staff) -Crunch and Nina reintroduced into the canon, preferably with strong nods to Wrath of Cortex with Crunch being villain turned hero

I don't think it's so much 'serious' as much as the earlier games were this fine balance of sincerely told but still revelling in how silly they were. Take say Crash Nitro Kart which really had a sense of grandeur and greater stakes with Velo's menace, but ultimately still made light of the fact you were playing a silly race course with wacky aliens, all to appease a manchild who wants you to lose to him at his favourite game. Perfect mix of silly and sincere. Crash 4 to compare is......erratic. It has dead silly and meta moments that completely ruin any sense of consistency with the characters, and then it will shift to tryhard 'dramatic and dark' reminscent of those 2000 Sonic games. Compare say the flashback tapes which reduce the scientists to moronic cariactures, to Tawna vs Tropy backstory, which is laughably out of place in how unironically grim it is. Even the characters seem to have been segregated this way. They were usually a mix of silly but sincere, often one side was more prominent on surface level but the other would show up at key times (eg. Crash is an airheaded clown but still crafty and mischevious at the right moment, Coco is a kid genius that still acts like a childish brat when things don't go her way, Cortex is a theatrical menace while also a 'dead inside' butt monkey bitter from endless defeats and being treated like a clown). In Crash 4 everyone is JUST stupid/comical or JUST serious/competent, which isn't as fun, and kinda leads to an uneven story handling. I'd actually argue the handling of the universe is more dreary and expositional in 4 while the earlier games had a more consistent earnest narrative but knew how to make its comedy and weirdness still the driving force.

I'm definitely happy TFB fixed every single plothole Vivendi Universal Games created when they owned the franchise and the developers TT games Konami Vicarious Visions when they were independent and radical entertainment When they changed the gameplay and story and breaks continuity as a result, I actually care about the story of the franchise especially the original trilogy because of the fanbase being split in the 2000's Crash Bandicoot 4 It's About Time Amplified and Multiplied the foundation of the franchise with the main 43 levels, N.Verted levels and flashback tapes levels and the controls honors the playstyle of the original trilogy and Embraced the Multiverse concept so much it became Crash Bandicoot 4's core story with Easter eggs in Nitros Oxide, The evil twins and the elementals, as it's levels and dimensions that the Crash Bandicoot games that universal and different developers did all while fixing the plotholes, TFB Created a modern Crash Bandicoot, Meaning they have the Modern formula, design, mechanics and story that TFB and Beenox can use to make a Crash Bandicoot game that's really great.

To be fair on the Titans intro, I never saw it as a rebooted origin, more just a funny compressed summary of the franchise lore, especially in how it's set up like a little play, the Titans games were fond of that sort of humour. Same for WOC ignoring Warped's ending. It always felt like a standard cartoony ending that isn't really meant to be followed on from, equivelent to Cortex and Tropy getting nuked and turning into angels sulking on a cloud, only to come back perfectly fine next game. And really IAT ADDED a new plothole for everyone they fixed anyway. Why's Brio back with Cortex? Where was Crash when HIS SISTER was being experimented on? Really my problem with IAT is that it tries to promote itself as this 'return to roots' and ditching all the changes and gimmicks that riddled the post-Naughty Dog era.....but then kinda does all that too just with its own branding. Sure it's more loyal to Naughty Dog on a technical standpoint, but it really does have Toys For Bob's liberties all over it, barely even trying to resemble a Naughty Dog game, in particular the restrictive Where's Waldo ethics for level design, the masks and new playables being another dominant gimmick, and YET ANOTHER design and characterisation overhaul that I'm so sure everyone will stay unanimous on. :P At least the previous follow ons were pretty honest about being their own self contained thing and didn't pretentiously boast about being a 'fix', and that they were 'the only other guys who GET the franchise'. I HATE that derogatory sort of attitude and I HATE that so many fans bought into it, especially since IAT's deviations arguably make it the least enjoyed Crash game for me. IAT is actually the first Crash game I think is super pretentious. Power to you for liking that game's direction, but this video is made completely from that perspective. And sure IAT has gotten more critical acclaim than those games, but it looks like the fanbase is still pretty much split with many fans hating the idea of Crash 4 being the new direction for the series. To say IAT fixed everything is hypocrisy. Nothing has changed. No one has learned anything except maybe to make more 'classic style' platformers, something that was likely to happen with any new Crash game they made since it was the trend now unlike with the Wrath-Titans era where platformers were going out of fashion.

Another thing it also bothers me, like you said, it tries to "fix" the post ND era, but at the end of the game story, in the 100% completion, we have all of those post ND characters in the cutscenes (and is not like some of the levels were they have one reference and thats it). I also want these characters to exist in Crash universe, but they should give it an introduction. Now the "post ND universe" exists in the ND one? Man, the Crash timeline was and is still a mess. I guess i have to just consider it a joke and thats it..... a joke thst isnt even funny to begin with it along with the other 100 of the game.

@@sebastianaliandkulche Really I think the whole timeline thing was just adding too much elaboration and restriction the franchise didn't need. The games were already loosely connected. I was fine accepting each of them existed with artistic liberties between each take, we don't need to gatekeep it behind 'other dimensions', especially since now we need to supposedly reintroduce everything that's beyond Crash 3. Nitro Fuelled I felt had the right direction, just make it all the same cohesive universe like it had never really stopped running for those ten or so years. Heck, Donkey Kong Country did it just fine. Did we need complicated explanations why Dixie Kong was suddenly back?

The video game era in the 1990s and 2000s were milestones in the game industry, and are hard to beat in record sales, they were really great and modern titles are having trouble even competing with them. That’s how good video games were back then. Toys For Bob has opened up doors for success in the modern era and joy to video games since back then. Great job TFB.

crash 4 is the best crash game ever created, it's a fantastic platformer and I agree it definitely saved the franchise it created a very promising future for crash bandicoot, it's kinda rare to see a 90s platforming franchise being very successful in the modern era of gaming, crash fans should appreciate how amazing crash 4 is and how it proved that crash is still relevant.

So is there a new Crash game in development? If not then nothing you said in this video holds any weight. And for the record, Crash 4 itself is a giant plothole due to retconning Crash and Coco's origins & characterization (i.e. Tawna is supposed to be the "female bandicoot" not Coco).

Crash Bandicoot 4 saved the franchise that much it's the last game since 2 years and Wumpa League is likely cancelled.

Crash bash is and always will be one of my favorite games. I know the Likelihood of it getting a remake is so low, I’m still holding out hope.

Too early to say it saved the franchise when it barely did as well as the 1st game critically & it somewhat did decent in sales but not better than the sales of Nsane or probably even Wrath of Cortex. We'll know if it's truly saved based on what Activision or Microsoft does with the series within the next couple years.

I like crash 4 but I hate 100% it I think that's where they got crash wrong, crash is a challenging game not a hard game

My first Crash game was the original crash 3. I love the way Crash 4 continues the story in a fun and dynamic way. Also, I'm a big fan of the way they work older crash themes into the new music, especially everything they did with the Cortex battle theme, like in Stay Frosty, Fourth Time's a Charm, and the introduction cut scene.

For the most part, though, it's fun hard, not frustrating hard. At least for me. The levels are very well designed, and I didn't notice many cheap deaths. Almost every time I died, it felt like my fault. I will admit, not every stage was a winner. Off Beat, Run It Bayou/No Dillo-Dallying, Rush Hour and a few others were too long or had some elements I didn't like, and there was some cryptic BS in the game like figuring out that you had to go through Draggin' On without breaking a single crate in order to get the blue gem. But overall, I really did enjoy the game. I'm glad I finally got to play it.

It’s not to “tough” if you’re going for 100% completion then yeah it’s a lot more difficult, but I wouldn’t say it’s to “tough.”

@@baalfgames5318 Off Beat and Run It Bayou, Off Balance etc are some of my favorite levels, also I disagree with the length thing. Levels aren’t that long especially if you’re playing on modern mode, there’s plenty of checkpoints and stuff.

@@lenarmangum8630 Yeah. People complain about the level length, but IMO, only a few levels are bad. Plus, the game is pretty merciful, giving you AkuAku and bringing the checkpoints closer if you die enough times.

As much as I would love that to happen I get the feeling that it won’t happen in a few more years due to another two games being in development The Crash Wumpa League & Spyro 4, but neither have been confirmed for a release date, but the answer does still hold up in the air.
