Jet Pac was my very first experience with a computer game, too! :D I don't know how they managed to pull it off, but one of my parents' friends had a device he could play it on early in 1989 in East Germany. I was so utterly impressed with all this that it was basically all it took to get me addicted to tech for life ^^

My first Spectrum game too! I was a 20 , just finished my electrical apprenticeship with Thorn Lighting in Enfield. I had found another job and it was my last day. Companies used to pay cash in those days , and they made you work a "week in hand" so when you left you got 2 weeks money. I had a ZX81 and used to dream of the spluttery sounds and colour of the speccy. I picked up my money and drove my 1974 ford Cortina to Enfield town and went to WH Smiths. If you watch "Micro Men" (on youtube for free) Smith's looked just like the shop Chris Curry visits. Bought my 148k spectrum and got the choice of a free game. I had been in the shop a few days before , so knew which game it had to be. Then drove home to have some dead flesh feel , rubber key fun. Got it in the ear from my girlfriend for "wasting" £140 ! It was an odd time to be into computers, seemed like a new system/consul came out every month. The good old days!

My only memories of JetPac come from Donkey Kong 64, which I still haven't beaten because I could never get past the part where you have to beat it on a single life in order for the game to progress. As a result, I only have hatred for JetPac. Why did Rare require you to beat it with just ONE life!? And why was it necessary in order to continue?

I thought you only had to get a high score, which was easy to do by going to the top platform and then shooting back and forth.
@Psythik3 жыл бұрын
@@foxymetroid To be fair, I haven't played the game since the 90s, so I may be a bit a fuzzy on the details. That said, I *distinctly* remember how difficult it was and your comment just helped me remember why it was so hard to pull off to begin with! Not only did you have to get the high score, you had to do it with just one life. And not just for JetPac, you had to do the same thing with the OG Donkey Kong as well. Even the original arcade versions of the game were generous enough to give you more than one life! Edit: Also, the internet wasn't as widely used in those days so it's not like I could just look up a guide or get advice from other users such as yourself. It was every gamer for themselves back in those days! If you weren't lucky enough to have dialup, you had to figure the game out on your own. I was unfortunately one of the unlucky ones.
