One man garden restoration on this 17th Century garden estate. Lots of progress being made in this garden now, and hopefully I will have it done by Christmas 😅 This may be one of the most amazing and incredible one man garden makeovers you've ever seen!
In fact this has turned into quite the garden saga, with ups and downs, both with the weather and also my emotions.
Some days I don't know if I have bitten off more than I could chew, but progress is being made and viewers have given me some much needed motivation.
From overgrown weeds, hidden paths, secret buildings and nature everywhere you look, this garden renovation will leave you speechless. Join us as we reveal the magic that happens when creativity, hard work, and a little bit of fairy dust come together to create the ultimate garden haven. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting out, or just like watching gardening programs, you won't want to miss this inspiring before-and-after garden transformation. So sit back, relax, and get ready to be inspired to create your own garden magic!
As always, thanks for watching
Martin The Garden Guy.

The building was a stable. The Dutch doors were most likely opened up at the top for light and air. I can imagine a horse sticking its head out! You are definitely making progress. Keep it up!

I agree, stables by the look of them, with a garage tack onto the end when them new fangled ‘orseless carriages started being used, and the gable end knocked through. What would clinch it for me is if the stable block is as old as the house, or nearly so.

I think that actually a stable door, Dutch doors are shorter in the bottom half in relation to the top opening. Usually outdoor kitchen door. Keeps babies 👶 in and chickens 🐓 out

@@ellierennes9043 now I see the difference. I’m just a city girl (from the Bronx), appreciating Martin’s work and this beautiful property. We use to have stables here and my father would take us to ride the ponies, so I remember the doors and the horses looking out. That was nearly 50 years ago. Thank you for correcting me!

Building looks like it used to be a hanging room, attached to a small smokehouse, attached to a milking barn. Either way, it had livestock in it at some point. There are drainage channels going out of all 3 rooms. You're doing something amazing and historically important with this property. Thank you for putting in the time and effort. Especially during clean up season! This was our busiest time of year too. Everyone wants their yard cleaned up and ready for winter now that summer is over. Love that remote control mower. Looks like so much fun! Have a great week and stay blessed Martin!

Greetings Martin! I become more and more enamored with this place. 😍I wish you could buy this too! How incredible would it be to own such a grand piece of history? Plus you would always have content available at your finger tips. I know it must feel very overwhelming some days, but doing it the way you are is more manageable, I think, just one section at a time, as you can. I'd hate for you to burn out on this one. I love the cleaned garage/stable with the lovely bench. I wonder... and of course it's just a thought...if at some point later, you might have a chat with the current owner on video? It would be so cool if the could share the history of the place, and how they came to own it. I'd love to hear about their time on this property (and if it's haunted! 🤣of course!) It could be a totally separate video, and if you didn't want to be on camera or have an interview style, you could just record them givin us the Low-Down. I think many of us have really fallen in love and it would be a great companion piece to this playlist on the property! Just a thought.😉 Well, another episode in the books and a mini adventure to reel us in even further. Wonderful clean today Martin. I send prayers of courage, stamina, and patience to you, to help you get it all done. Blessings to you from the Pacific Northwest, Washington State. 💛🖤💛

I think whatever the building was originally that it was most recently (1920s? 30s?) used as a garage/work shop. I know landscaping services in Ontario, Canada are really busy in the fall - pruning, mulching, raking, etc. before the snow falls. I know you're in a hurry but I don't want to see the episodes end!

I would think the metal stall walls would be for cows. Don’t you need taller wooden stalls for horses? Also, when I saw the chain hanging from the center of the iron truss I thought of lifting engine blocks from cars. Could that part have been converted to a garage sometime in the last 100 years? Sturdy, well-built farm outbuildings always seem to have a very fluid history. You are doing a great job.

I’m thinking the building could be a farrier’s workshop Martin, rather than a stable. The reason being that stables would be more vermin prone and smelly so they wouldn’t want it too close to the main house. It could have been a cold room/store for fruit, veg, flowers and herbs or even where they made butter xx

That's an old stone carriage house. The dutch doors were where the the horses were stalled, the single door in the middle would've been the harness/feed room, and the big doors on the end were where the actual carriage was kept. Most have been remade into guest housing on the big estates, or storage like this one. We have them in the US too.

Good progress Martin! It’s looking good where you spend your time each week. 👏👍 I always wonder what you will tackle when your video pops up. 🤔 Only from reading historical fiction, I make the guess the building was used as a carriage house and horse stable combination. I came to this conclusion due to the wide doors on the left side and the very tall door on the side. The second floor/loft was used during that timeframe as a home/housing for the horse care staff and coachman. Do you know Martin? See you next week!

I think the white painted brick part might have been for a few cows. The other end looks like a machinery garage / workshop, perhaps for a traction engine? Was that remnants of an old block and tackle? That steel frame was massive and very old trucks were not. Biggest thing I thought of was a traction engine.

I've been meaning to ask if this is a community garden? Are you working with part of a restoration team for an estate? Bless you for all the work you've done so far. It's been great watching you transform this place!

Nope, this has always been a private dwelling as far as I know 😊 what an awesome garden they would have had.

@@martinthegardenguy, simply amazing! One of my favorite childhood books was "The Secret Garden", and ever since I've always wanted a beautiful, walled-in garden like the one shown in the book.

I thought the idea of those auto mowers was so that they just cut the lawn without supervision. I've never seen one myself, so I am intrigued.

This one is a remote control mower, not an automatic one. But I prefer it 😂 I still don't like driving automatic cars, I prefer being in control of my gears. Maybe I'm a control freak 😅 It's tremendous fun though is this mower.

@@martinthegardenguy Ha! You English and your manual cars. Showed a couple of English tourists around Melbourne about 20 years ago and they were amazed at how we all drove automatic cars in Australia. Like you, I always said I liked to change gears myself - took me about 30 seconds to learn to love autos. 😄

I think you're right, at least, that looks like one of the jobs this barn would have been used for 😊 I meant to have a little more of a poke around, but I'm always in a rush 😂

Enjoying this tremendously.... I feel a lil guilty as i sit back in my comfortable chair and watch you hard at work. I am curious though, is this your property and what are your future plans with it? Thanks... PS Your hard work is appreciated on this old property...

Nope, unfortunately, it's not mine. Although I certainly would love to own it. I'm just helping out a bit, it's a lovely place to work. And the young man who now owns it (inheritance) needed the help. But I'm having a whale of a time 😅

As we are in autumn now everything will slow down or stop growing altogether until spring so the garden will remain like this until then, at least Martin will see his accomplishment for all his hard work

Oh! I do love a good path/plateau reveal! So weird they removed the rest of the concrete. Choices certainly were made. 😅 didn’t they want those doors to easily open or…? Is it just grass or do you think there might be a path (now hidden) leading up to that barn?
