Ethanol also degrades and damages aluminum... That's why you cannot use street gasoline in piston engined aircraft. The wing tanks in most small aircraft are actually part of the wing structure to save weight. Have ethanol in there and your wings get weaker as time goes by and then some day you fall outta the sky because your wings failed.

if your vehicle will run on 87 without detonating, or pre-igniting, use it, if your car does pre-ignite, or detonate, use premium. Forget about that mid grade, you do not know what percentage of premium is blended with regular to get that mix.. You do not get more power with premium fuel. All premium does is prevent you from losing power. If you have a vehicle that is prone to detonation or preignition. That’s all premium does, is keep you from losing power.

The attendant would not reset the pump to zero, and hang the pump so that when he put it in your car, it would start at $1 or $2. If you weren't observant or did not know how much gas you tank held, you would pay the extra money which the attendant would pocket.

@roberthughes2687Ай бұрын
Still has ethanol lol
@peppersmoothieАй бұрын
You realize that fuel is still a 10% ethanol file. A fact of life is that ethanol is cleaner and keeps injector / carb parts cleaner. However, if you leave ethanol fuels sitting a longer time, the corrosive ethanol evaporates, corrodes some internal aluminum and cheap brass parts, but leaves a varnish as the gasoline evaporates. Ethanol by is self has more octane, so it’s actually an octane booster. Top-Tier fuel like Costco sells is a premium fuel and contains Techron. The big problem with ethanol is when it sits unused in a motor / fuel tank ethanol ( all alcohols ) are hydrophilic and bind with moisture in the air. In a closed fuel system this really isn’t a problem.

When I worked in a gas station the when the price changed we had to manually change each pump. The pumps meter had sort of a transmission, you manually changed the gear ratio to the display that showed how much gas you were getting.

Neat thing. Just like Scotty showed you, if you wish to remove all Ethanol from your gas for 2-Cycle mixed fuel engines like weed-whackers or mowers and such that use oil mix fuel and not pay an insane $28 or more a half gallon for non-Ethanol 1-50 mix fuel at the garden center. Take a clear container of 2-gallons put in 1-gallon of gas and 1-cup of water and shake. The water will absorb the Ethanol and separate out. The clean fuel floats, either pour off the fuel or like me I have a container with a screw-valve in the bottom looks like a water separate in a diesel system. open the valve and drain off the water until fuel starts to come out.

Some interesting tidbits about MTBE, the company I work for back during that craze install some sampling systems for it in the refineries locally here in Corpus Christi Texas. The problem we were having was the MTBE was eating the O-rings up literally dissolving them into nothing. We ended up with something called Kalrez O-rings, they’re the size of the end of your pencil eraser and they were over $100 apiece they were the only ones that would put up with it that stuff is highly corrosive.

MTBE also did some interesting things to the vehicle. SAAB had to replace fuel pumps on many of their vehicles because the higher levels of MTBE in fuels sold in some parts of the country dissolved the adhesive in the fuel filters, causing particles of the adhesive to clog and damage the pumps. There was no recall though. It was fixed on a "courtesy" basis.
