Great reaction! You're on point with John being a poet. He was gifted with the mastery of wordplay. Their producer, George Martin had said that John is one of the greatest Rock and Roll voices. Strangely enough, John notoriously hated his own voice. Check out The Beatles "In My Life", their cover of Chuck Berry's "Rock and Roll Music" with John on vocals and John Lennon's "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night".

Good for you Stan. Your taste in music has grown, and without a doubt reflects mine as well. The Beatles were the reason that music changed into this unbelievable sound's of perfection. These were the times of our lives.

John was one of the GREAT Rock-n-roll singers, period. John was the artist and founder. He was the edge and IMHO, the best of them. Paul was perhaps the best musician and most prolific with a great vocal range. George was the spiritual one and turned into an equal songwriter to the dynamic duo. And when they ditched Pete Best and added Ringo, they discovered the glue that amalgamated The Beatles' untarnishable legacy. Have you heard 'Hey Bulldog?" I highly recommend the video.

Hard to believe now but I first had this on 45 rpm with Hey Jude on one side and Revolution on the other. I think I paid $1.49, which was a 50 cent increase over other popular 45s at the time. Wish I still had it. Good reaction, Stan. Thank you.

Ah, the old days. I remember a concert I went to….It was for Cream and I went to their concert at the Sam Houston Coliseum on October 24th 1968. I kept a news article from The Houston Chronicle that says tickets were available for the show, and prices were $3, $4, $5, and $6 and available at Houston TicketMaster locations. This is absolutely true. I wish prices were still the same.

I had that 45 RPM record, too. I also remember buying the white album (which included “Revolution #1,” the slow version of this song) on the day it was released, then hitchhiking to a friend's house where we sat and listened to the whole thing for the first time. Great memories. It was a great time to be a teenager with artists like the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones, Simon and Garfunkel, the Who, The Beach Boys and so many more.

It’s difficult to appreciate “Revolution” fifty years beyond it’s release because we’re so far beyond that moment in history. In 1968 it was an anti-call to arms, now, it’s just a track off the album. Context is everything.
@user-we2yt5on9b

Anti-call to arms is a great description. Unfortunately, at the time, a lot of people couldn’t get past the title and assumed the opposite: that Lennon advocated revolution. They really missed the point.

Great comment on John! Arguably he finally completed his tribute to Chuck Berry's rhythm guitar on the Ballad of John and Yoko. Jimi Hendrix once said that he preferred John's guitar playing to Eric Clapton because he played rhythm and lead - although Hendrix was probably commenting more on his own brilliant playing of rhythm and lead...

Fun reaction and wise words at the end as always. I really love this and I would say that it just seems so modern for the time. That blistering distortion on the guitar and that full spectrum sound that's really piercing and biting at the top but still packs a huge punch at the bottom. Wow. More Beatles! 😂😂

A great interview is when John was asked if he could do anything, what would it be: "To play guitar like B.B. King." When B.B. read the interview (Guitar Magazine I think, he said, "I nearly fell out of my chair!" Later, a mutual friend arranged a call for them. And Lennon played live with Chuck Berry performing, "Johnny B. Good" on the Mike Douglas Show (find on KZbin).

What I liked about this back in the 60s as people were really starting to get a little violent well quite a bit violent. Lennon comes out with this against violent he got a lot of flack from some of the radicals at the time. But I really liked it I said I thought it set the right tone for the time. And not to be violent and this was mostly written by John Lennon as most of you know of course the Beatles always do their part

This is actually the second version of this song released by the lads. There is a slower, acoustic version on the White Album. It might be fun to listen to both versions in the same reaction. Compare and contrast. Which one did you like best? Why? Why are there two versions? I know the answer to the last question. John wanted to release the first version as a single. Paul didn't think it rocked enough. John said, "Challenge accepted." Or, words to the effect. Was Paul right?

this was the b-side to "hey jude." another double sided a-side classic single from the beatles. there's actually 3 versions of the song. side 3 of the white album has john's "slowed down" version. it has 50's style "doo-wops" added to it. the single is a sped up version without the "doo-wops." and this video version is the sped up version with "doo-wops" added. and the strange thing is all versions are EXCELLENT! the white album is a classic that must be heard by every music lover. its the best r&r album ever produced. thanks for the video

I didn't watch Monday Night Football on December 8th, 1980, so I didn't hear Howard Cosell's announcement. Somehow our family missed it. Or if my parents heard about it they didn't tell me or my sister that night. I found out Tuesday morning at school John Lennon was dead. Of course this was about ten weeks after John Bonham died. Pretty devastating way to start HS.

OK for the live version, a promo clip they started doing instead of touring, combines the fast tempo of the single and the background shoo-be-doobies of the slower album version.

I used to have Lennon's In His Own Write and A Spaniard in the Works in one volume. Then my daughter stole it. It was a collection of free form verse and cartoons. Anybody who thinks his creativity had anything to do with drugs needs to read it. The books were written long before that phase. 🧓😎🎸🧠

I once had an autographed copy of that book. John was at Syracuse U one day for an art exhibit. My brother, a student there, asked John if he would sign it. He did, and my brother gave it to me. I was only a little girl at the time, but he knew how infatuated I was with the Beatles, told me to hang on to it. "One day you'll understand," he said. Sadly, a few years later, it was lost in a move to another house. What I wouldn't give to have it now.😢
