One thing ppl are shocked by is how independent my sons are. They're 10 & 4yo, they get themselves ready for school (I shower them and lay their clothes out) but they brush their teeth and get dressed. My 10yo can make breakfast and he washes and puts away his clothes. I've been called lazy because I have them do their own stuff but ppl don't realize a lot of times kids don't mind chores when its coming from a safe, loving environment. It takes some of the stress off and if they CAN do it I encourage them to do so.

I used to watch Brandon's vids to make myself laugh when I was feeling crappy, so i knew who you were, but didn't know you had a channel.... I just started watching your videos a couple weeks ago, and I have to THANK YOU. You inspire me to be who I AM. For a long time I didn't know who that was, and every day I get to know myself more and more. I really appreciate how you encourage women to be SELFISH when it cones to their mental health. I'm so happy I came across your channel, and I appreciate the fuck out of you. Thanks again. 😉 P.s. congrats on the baby!!

I just think we need to normalize women taking time to be the best version of themselves instead of literally pushing this we need to be ON at all times mentality, it’s okay to take a break for just ourselves it’s actually healthy! I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to write this comment bbg , I appreciate it 🥰🥰

Why did I get a little emotional watching this when you said we have to make ourselves a priority. Because it's so true. And I wish more ppl would think this way. Instead of "she's being selfish" I used to get so much hate from my family because I wanted to sit down and get ready WITHOUT the baby bugging me. And they would always say rude shit when I would come out all glammed uo and makeup done and complain how long I took to get ready. Like let me be! This is what makes me happy and why shouldn't I do what makes me happy and feeling good about myself 🙄

Currently in a program to get my teacher certs, and a lot of it resonates with being a parent. Self care is important ya'll! A stressed mama also stresses their baby. This was one of the first things we covered in my classroom management class. There is a fine line, but it is not selfish.

I wish I had this video when I was neglecting my self care as a new mom almost 3 years ago. I stopped taking care of myself in many simple ways because of fear and just being in a survival mental state. I’m glad that I overcame that and I don’t feel guilty for taking time for myself whether it’s to put on makeup, do an in depth skin care routine or hanging out with my friends every once a while. I’m a better mom for it 💗

I'm 41 and just now finally feel like I've got my shit together that includes boundaries for me time. It took starting a cleaning method/system (heavily modified for my physical disability) to be able to get to the "I got this!" level and it includes much needed selfcare. It's not like I didn't know how to do the things, I had to learn how to do the things without hurting myself by breaking it down into manageable portions which has eliminated so much pain and guilt for taking time for myself.
@brittanyr94712 жыл бұрын
Honestly, it's good that you are able to do self care. I struggle because of anxiety, depression and immense guilt. It's something I'm working on because I know I can't be the best version of me, or the best mom I'm capable of being if I don't take care of myself. Plus, I don't want my daughter to pick up from me that she needs to take care of everyone else first.

I know this video is about a year old. I have recently started watching your vlogs and I love them. I want to say THANK YOU for touching on topics and stuff that can be seen in a negative light. Like doing self care, and your worries with your kids. I feel the same about raising kids in the right way but not stifling their own person. Or your mom telling y'all to get out of the room or let her eat alone. I tend to think I'm doing bad doing that but you explaining it like that is exactly what I want to say it in words and couldn't. Love you! Keep being you! Ps I love your vlogs

I'm a single mom, I am that person that gets no time and I will bitch about it sometimes, but my circumstances are vastly different and FAAAAAAAAR from the norm. About me time... 🥴😖 My kid will unlock the bathroom door from the outside 🥲 he learned that when he was 4. Ngl was kinda proud of the little turd when he stood there with his playmobil toy. I've had to learn (and the curve was steep af) to incorporate him into routines I had previously only done when and how I wanted. It's not easy. But my son is really into skincare now because we put on our headbands and do a little routine together. He also love love loves to swatch new eyeshadows with me, his favorites are the sparkly ones. Won't lie, I was actually sometimes caught by surprise as to how fun sharing those activities with a little person could be. Especially because I never anticipated him being interested in it. But some days it's just really really hard for me, my son has a heart defect so he's been outta daycare since this shit show started, so he's with me 24/7. He also has adhd and is really struggling with behavioral issues sometimes, they just take over and he has a different personality. I have anxiety. When my anxiety and his hyperactivity/outbursts meet... well, it ain't fireworks. At least not in the good sense. I've actually stood there trying to discipline him through pretty much hyperventillation because I was having a panic attack. It sucks. It really depends on the day though. It depends on him a lot and if that day he struggles more with behavioral issues. It also depends on me, my depression & other medical crap going on, if I will get around to doing self-care, or even just washing my face. I know a lot of people can't relate, but that's because we're all different. Our circumstances are extremely different. And all we can do is just be mindful of that, be respectful and not be judgmental. Women are under so much pressure anyway. And before some people come out of the woodworks to shout "equality for dads/das matter too"... society does not .DOES.NOT. hold men to the same standards as it does women when it comes to anything childcare. It's just fucked up. Truly the best thing to do is say to yourself fuck societal standards all the way, because that will be huge for your mental health. At any angle, with any type of issue, trying to reach those (often unrealistic) standards just sets you up for failure and mental health problems. So go fuck it all to hell 🤘🏻

Girllll I was in labor for 3 days! THREE! on the second night of some discomfort and contractions I finally went to the emergency room just so I can be told what was going on. I wanted to know if baby was okay. I thought the baby was just turning (I was 29 weeks). The doctor that saw me was literally the most distant, careless doctor I’ve ever seen. We waited longer that it was for her to check the baby. She sent me home saying I was okay. The very next evening I finally have had enough because I saw a lot of spotting! When I went to my actually provider she checked me and by this time I had already told her what I’ve been experiencing and for how long and the thing about the other doctor. She looked up in shock saying Mrs. Yan you are 6cc dilated 😮 and about half an hour later I was 7cc. You could imagine how upset my husband even more now about that other doctor. They had to stabilize my contraction bc they needed to transport me to the women’s ER hospital downtown. Anyway, once transferred they were able to stabilized and slowed down my contraction and I made it to 30 weeks. Then baby came ❤

I have a 5 year old and an 8 year old - I agree self care is a must. I mean how do kids learn best? By example! Show them mom takes care of herself and they will learn to do the same. Martyrs end up being annoying imho and being one is not something to be proud of imho. The martyr mindset is destructive and unhealthy to yourself. I learned something recently that stuck with me - you are the only person that has to live with you more than any other person in existence, so it's important to take care of yourself and love yourself.

Self care is not selfish. How can you be the best version of yourself for everyone else, if you’re neglecting yourself? I know some moms feel bad doing stuff for themselves, but they shouldn’t
