@colewarner49543 күн бұрын
Drafting situational pass rushers at 11 is terrible value. They matter on 3rd and long, that's really it. There are on average 6.8 plays of 3rd & 5 or longer. Those are the only plays where JPJ adds value. You'd be far better off drafting Jeanty, a generational RB you know Shanahan can possibly turn into a HOFer. James Pierce can maybe be an elite pass rusher, if he develops some pash rush moves. But what do you do with him when you are facing the Lions in the NFC championship game? Y you literally cannot play him except on 3rd and long. You can't play him in goaline either. The fact that pure edge rushers are situational results in them having very limited in-game reps early in their careers, which makes it much harder for them to develop. Situational pass rushers are the most overvalued and over drafted players in the NFL. The most valuable defensive play in the NFL statistically is the second down sack. If you can get sacks on second down, you push teams into third and long, giving even more pass rush opportunities, etc.. Situational pash rushers like Pierce can't do that, because he's a liability in run defense, and doesn't play on 2nd down. They are pash rushers than can't even contribute to the most valuable type of pass rush You want to pass up giving Shanahan a young generational RB for a guy that you already know off the jump will not add value on like 80% of your teams defensive snaps? I just don't get it. Look up Brent Kollman's tweet on drafting 240 edges top 10 if you don't want to trust me.
@hudsonpowersКүн бұрын
@@colewarner4954 JPJ is not nearly as bad of a run defender as you are making it sound. He has the highest win rate in the whole class, that's pretty freaky. He's 6'5 and fast af. You can teach a freak run techniques, but you can't teach someone to be a freak.
@colewarner4954Күн бұрын
@@hudsonpowers He would probably be serviceable against the run in a 3-4 as an OLB, but not in the 49ers 4-3. Many 240 edges are also fine in college against when they have even more of an athleticism advantage on less talented tackles. If your goal is to re-tool for another playoff run in the next few years, you also have to look at who you must beat. What do you do with JPJ against the Lions or Eagles in the playoffs? They are just gunna run at him all day.

Ballard can't draft. Idc what anyone says. If the colts would have used my mock drafts the last two years we would have Brian Branch, Jared Verse, Cam Hart, and Renardo Green on the roster.. How you draft Latu over Verse when you are only rushing four was a head scratcher. In a different system Latu would be more effective. In Gus system, Verse was exactly what they needed, and Ballard smuggly "got the best damn edge rusher in the class". Then passes on so many good cbs round after round and the Colts defense is god awful. He may hit once in a while, but he can't evaluate defensive talent early.
