@shankarnath8 ай бұрын
I put subtitles in my videos so that the content can be consumed by people who are watching it on their way back (like in a metro) or those who have hearing impairment. Apologies for the inconvenience caused to you Fortunately there is a solution which has been a feature offered by KZbin for the last 10-15 years. You'll see a CC button in the top right corner of your mobile device when watching my videos. Alternatively, if you are watching it on a laptop, you'll see an icon (I think 3rd or 5th from the right) in the bottom right corner. Tapping on these buttons enables and disables the caption. Please try it .. I have used it hundreds of times

You are doing a great work sir, I watched first video as momentum and value investing MF and after that I am a big fan of your content. Thanks for all these hard work and guidance. I have a question sir, We understand where to invest but when to exit in this strategy? do we need to rebalance portfolio every year based on GARP screener stocks? If yes then when we should start investing in these stocks? any date or can start from today onward?
@shankarnath8 ай бұрын
Thank you for your appreciation and gratuity. There is no defined answer to your question but if one thinks logically, the answer is there in the video itself. For instance, the PEG ratio preferred range is 0 to 2. So if it goes outside that, then it's not preferred & hence becomes a trigger for exit. The same way one can define an exit strategy. Even for your other questions, there is no defined process.

Shankar ji - Thank you so much for sharing this strategy. Your content (Newsletter, Videos) are something I really look forward to always. Simplicity with which you explain does not come easy as at your end you must have to spend huge to time to make it concise and impactful. While I will watch and rewatch to understand the concept better, I have a qq on the first glance - Aditya Vision has Debt / Equity of 2.3. In my list, it would have been filtered out as per my screeening criteria. Your views on such high Debt / Equity would help to understand why it still has place in your list?
@shankarnath8 ай бұрын
Hello Vikrant ji -- I don't look at debt-equity ratio with as much intent as I look at the interest coverage ratio (I have incorporate Int. Coverage in my screener aswell). Let me explain with a small example. So, 2 companies --- Company A has debt of 100, equity of 200, earns EBITDA of 5 rupees .. and there is Company B with 100 in debt, 20 in equity and earns operating profits of 50 rupees Now for someone looking at D/E ratio, they'll give a higher preference to Company A as that ratio is 0.5 but for me, it doesn't matter because a debt of 100 means the interest payable per year is 10. The company isn't earning enough operating profit which makes it a potential default situation and there is no way the company will be able to rollover the debt which means the DE ratio means nothing here. On the other hand, Company B has a DE ratio of 5 but that doesn't bother me because the company is earning enough (i.e. high interest coverage) to not only pay the interest amounts but it can also extinguish its debt in a few short years.

Hi shankar ji, I ran the same query in screener today(04/June/24) and didnt find any results. What does it mean? Do we need to get out of all the stocks that we have invested previsouly from your list? How to understand this strategy? Your thoughts please.
@shankarnath7 ай бұрын
Hi, please do try to understand why this is happening in the first place. Here's why --- the entry (EPS / EPS last year) > 1.15 is the issue. You see, we are now in Jun of 2024 which means the March 2024 quarter results have been updated on screener. Now screener uses April 2023 to March 2024 as "last year". So when we do EPS divided by EPS last years, we end up with the same number i.e. (EPS / EPS last year) = 1 for most companies if not all. As a result, the 1.15 criteria was not getting satisfied. An easy fix is to remove the (EPS / EPS last year) > 1.15 criteria and try again. For your benefit, I have done this in this screener query --- www.screener.in/screens/1636105/garp-screener-by-shankar-nath/
@tendulkarmedipalle4437 ай бұрын
@@shankarnath, I really appreciate your response. Thank you. I missed this logic.Now the list is a count of 57 stocks. So, can we invest in all of them like we did previously?. How important is the entry that you have removed from the query to pick the list of stocks to invest in for this year? Thank you in advance.
@shankarnath6 ай бұрын
I'll say 57 is still quite a lot. Maybe you can add more filters on this or better still give a higher priority to those sectors which seem to have a better future (megathemes as it's generally called). Prune the list to 20-25 is what I'll suggest .. there will be some subjectivity involved in this
@AshokKumar-lt5sj8 ай бұрын
Great Insights. Just a comment on the screener you build for GARP - I believe it would be better to have expecated quarterly profit 15 or 20% more than previous year quarter..( Expected quarterly net profit > Net profit 3quarters back * 1.2)

Thanks! Yes, please feel free to tweak the screener values

Hello. I prefer equal weighting
@AdityaPaturi7 ай бұрын
How to distribute the money between the identified stocks? Should we go with equal weighted Or market cap weighted? Which one did you use it in your calculations?
@shankarnath7 ай бұрын
I used equal weights, generally I go with that

Very good video. However, I have one question. How do we exactly know when to enter or exit?
@shankarnath8 ай бұрын
There is no study I found on the exit but here's a simple framework I use that works most times i.e. if I enter a stock/portfolio when certain conditions are ripe, one should exit when those conditions aren't there. E.g. in this case, GARP needs a PEG of between 0 and 2. So if the PEG goes over 2, then it's exit time.

How do you calculate EPS growth rate as 55 in case of KPIT stock. Plz explain.
@shankarnath8 ай бұрын
I used the trailing 4 quarters EPS (i.e. Q4FY23, Q1FY24, Q2FY24, Q3FY24). I then divided it by the previous 4 trailing quarters i.e. (Q4FY22 to Q3FY23). This came to 1.55. I subtracted it by 1 to get 0.55 or 55%

Market Capitalization >1000 AND Sales>1000 AND PEG Ratio >0 AND PEG Ratio 15 AND Sales growth 3Years > 15 AND Sales growth 5Years > 15 AND (EPS/EPS last year)> 1.15 AND EPS growth 3Years > 15 AND EPS growth 5Years > 15 AND Expected quarterly net profit > Net profit 3quarters back This query not giving any stock on screener...

Did you define the PEG ratio? Its not a default formula in Screener. You have to create a new one.

It might be a silly question. So you run the query and got a list of stocks to invest right now but the stocks that are displayed have a past record of 1 year over 100%. If you ran the query 1 year ago you would have got a list of stocks which is different from now. So we have to wait for a year to see whether this is true. Am I right or am I missing something? BTW, great knowledge and great clarity of speech. I became a subscriber

You are absolutely right. I explained why backtesting is not possible at my end in the video but if you have the resources, please do try it out & share the results. I still believe this doesn't corrupt the strategy though as this is where most people have made money over the years.

Excellent video Shankar ji...Waiting for your smallcase. A couple of questions - I have seen an update to your newsletter since Feb. Am I missing something? Second question - How often should the portfolio of GARP stocks be rebalanced? Thanks

Thanks 1. I've not released an issue for some weeks now. Thanks for your patience 2. I couldn't find the answer to "when to rebalance" question anywhere in my research
