Good thing that the baby came and switched to the middle and bridge pickups. We were able to hear how they sound. John rarely does that. :)

For those considering a 22 vs 24 fret JS: the 22 fret model has symmetrical upper/lower horns, 42 mm nut width and a passive neck pickup (PAF Pro on JS1000, PAF Joe on JS1200). The 24 fret JS has a thinner lower horn, 43 mm nut width, and the latest JS2480/JS1CR30 comes with a sustainiac neck pickup that is active and rolls off high end and harmonics , it does not sound as good as the neck pickup on the JS1000/1200 in my opinion. The old ones go for half the price of the new ones in the second hand market.

I knew you would find your way to one of these. I've scoured the used market for the preceding model, the Ibanez 540R, basically the model that became the JS. I absolutely love them, they do the strat thing for me. I've 5 of them right now, all I've got for somewhere between $250-700. Though they are getting harder to find in good shape. The JS's are great, just have even more of a strat-like neck, which I think is a great thing, also the JS1000 first appeared in 1994, they had a black pearl, white, and trans burnt blue finish. All of them are fantastic. Also, if you can find a 540R, you essentially get the same thing but with a wider, flatter, in some cases, neck. A lot of 540R's shipped with Ultra necks, VERY comfy, thicker neck, though some also came with Wizards, which are thinner, definitely playable, but not as comfy as the Ultra's of that era (19.5-21.5mm thickess on the Ultra). Anyway, cheers, maybe we'll see you with another on your channel at some point :)

I’ve wondered about something like this for the Jeff Beck style I’ve been working on, as my Strat’s a bit thin sounding for my tastes and goes out of tune more easily - even though it’s what JB played. I always liked Satch’s occasional clean tones, so although I’m no shredder, I can see the functional benefits of that style of guitar, regardless of genre.

I used to have red js 1200 and a blue jem too back in the days...totally agree with ur comment. This guitar is one of ibanez versatile guitar, better than jem in playability. I remembered when i first got this guitar and playing it, it feels like home. Which i mean im a fender strat user and this 1200 js have a neck almost similar like strat. So its easier to play for me than the jem

Elodie is adorable (as others have already mentioned), and so glad to hear the doggie is doing better! Years ago, I played a JS Ibanez which looked exactly like that in a guitar store. I really liked the way it played, but didn’t buy it because it was a little too flashy looking for me, and I’m not a dive bomber so the locking nut just felt uncomfortable (and was a little intimidating, TBH).

Great playing guitars, but after owning Ibanezes (??) with the AANJ, I could never get comfortable high up on the fretboard with the old heel. I have a couple S (1993 s540ltd and s5470), love how comfortable they are.

Is it a coincidence that, while I'm watching this video, Facebook popped up a memory that 5 years ago today, I was watching Joe Satriani play at the Power Station in Auckland, NZ? I had a JS1200 in the same colour as yours - never should have sold it.

Have you played Musicman on your channel? Like the Cutlass? Or Sabre? I’m not a huge Ibanez fan, but I do love the AZ series, I haven’t had a chance to really play one, but the AZ2204 prestige seems like a great guitar, I’d swap pickups, I feel Ibanez never got the pickup thing right. The Jiva looked cool, I tried one, didn’t like it, You should tell K-Line to get you an HSS version for your channel, I’d like to see that

I think the satch ibanezes are one of the few that escaped the "great widening" mistake of the early 2000s where they started adding an extra 2 mm on the width of the neck turning them from some of the nicest necks on guitars to some of the most average. The first nitro wizards with the skunk stripe for me were the perfect thin neck profile. So gorgeous.

@@daievans2637they traditionally had the same nut and heel width as a typical modern Strat. They may seem really wide because the necks are so thin, so proportionally they’re very wide. What is being mentioned though is increasing the heel width from 56 to 58mm in 2003. So the necks feel even wider than they did back in the day.
@sacredgeometry
@sacredgeometry 10 ай бұрын
They were 56mm at the 12th fret now all of the are 58mm. Yes they were wide but they were at the limit of what was comfortable and they pushed passed that. I have owned RGs with almost all their major periods of necks.
