That's called mnemonics. Really helps you learn languages, specifically vocabulary, where you can associate some bonkers, vivid and chaotic story with a meaning and a pronunciation of a word. Really helps me to learn Japanese

This method works well when you are trying to memorize something you have completely zero interest in. In high school, I absolutely hated English and was close to failing before my final exam. I tried this technique for memorizing essays and it worked like a charm. The only downside is walking around your house can be a bit annoying since it makes you remember what you memorized, which can be stressful when you just want some peace. On a side note which is not mentioned in this video, i found it better to make a story about the objects in your house.

I watched this video 5 years ago and managed to get it in about an hour. It's been a party trick ever since. I've done it so many times I don't even need to use the palace anymore. This video was so nostalgic coz I was in 8th grade when I last watched this and I'm a college freshman now. It kinda reminds my of music. for instance playing the piano. if you want to learn a song. just look for an turtorial. why would you wast time on learning to read the key? then you will learn the song, but you won't be learning how to play piano.

if you think so, try to memorize, lest say, 10 completely random words just by looking at them for a few seconds. You'll probably remember 5-7 words and forget after a few minutes/hours. Now remember the same sett of words,but make a story in which they are used and create it in your imagination. This way, toy can memroxie even 50 words at the same time and remember them for long, so why won't you just try it before making dumb comments?

If you try to remember 3.1415 you can think of two people who are the ages of 14 and 15 (1415) after practicing this you will eventually just think of 2 people. And after that just people. And lastly whenever you need to type the numbers you only need a slight not even noticeable feeling to remember those four digits. I have practiced Pi so much now that the first 40 decimals goes by automation.

So in order to memorize numbers, I have to first translate each number into its own letter, then from there create sections of said numbers and turn the letters they represent into their own separate words, then I have to create a fictional world where I "see" all these things in the order the numbers are in and with that create a story I can use to memorize it... And then if I ever want to recite those numbers, I have to recall the story and recite each and every word of the story in their number forms. This all seems a little too complicated for the average person

Do some more reading on the subject and you'll understand (see my other comment bellow). Only the consonants shown at the beginning correspond to numbers. Don't use his house and his images, use some other place you know well and make up your own images with the letters. If you're the one who decided that (for example) FS (80) stands for FrankenStein, then you'll remember it. It's also much better if you make up in advance a list of 100 images, 00 to 99, that you reuse over and over everytime you want to remember some number.

So instead of memorizing 100 digits, you must memorize the letter associated with a number, make up objects of every 3 numbers, create a scene for them, and then recite the scene in your head then remembering what every object in the scene means and having to know what letters to change back to numbers and then recite that... @@midnightstar621 Give them pet names. No seriously. Making things have shorthand names will let them stick better. Name a disease Leslie and remember the symptoms of being afflicted with Leslie. Is he dangerous to the kidneys? Does he thin the blood? Does he cause excessive sweating? This method helped a friend of mine through medical studies, she swears by it.

Recently I found out a way to memorise: Scan through the page through eyes (deep focus), close the eyes for 2 sec and then open Within that 2 sec, you need to illustrate the page in your brain Then you will be able to recall that page after that, well within a short time period at least. I'm not sure how it works, but it works well with me, and I call it "camera" method :D Of course, not working for complicated stuff, but fine for things that need to be emphasized

Yesss I do that, too! It also works for complicated stuff, you just need to break it down. Usually to help with illustrating big chunks of text in my mind, I highlight specific words and I try to visualize those words first. After that I try to fill in the words that are in between the highlighted words. Also another way that helps a lot, especially with vocabs or definitions etc., is to find out a number of repetitions after which you can remember something for a very long time. For me it's 20 repititions if I want information to stay long term, otherwise less is also fine. Then I visualize the word and its definition in my mind and repeat the process 20 times. If it's an especially tricky concept speaking it out loud also helps. After that I can remember the information for a really long time.

i just repeat the pi into chunks each time i memorize one i try repeating with one more chunk its easier than memorizing 30 pages for 100 digits, i memorized until 3.14159265358979232846234 (about 23 digits after the 3)

@@chhunsocheat got to prepare for an exam, which has following subjects in syllabus - Modern History Polity Art and Culture Economics Geography Ancient and medieval history Environment Psychology Current Affairs All that, after already assuming I'm good at English vocabulary, reading comprehension, reasoning and non verbal, and high school mathematics. I calculated, 4000 pages is pretty underrated. It's actually way more than that - even after discounting on the basis of minimal material.

I used to be obsessed with this stuff when Harry Lorayne's Memory program with the VHS came out... at one point I could memorize a 200 digit random number... would take about 24 hours or so (for the mind to fade out the stuff) before I could try it again. :)

Happy with the memory palace side of things. However, you could remember 120 digits of PI (meaning the numbers after the 3 POINT....) by using far fewer Loci in your memory palace, namely 20 by using a PAO system that puts 6 digits in per Loci. A Dominic system of 100 characters 00-99 is a better tool to use than the major system in my opinion but if the Major System is preferred then a cast again of 100 characters using the Major Code can also be transcribed into a Person-Action-Object system too!

Yeah no... Legitimate memorizers don't use the memory palace for huge things like that. It's way to slow and it gets to a point where it's just so much easier to remember numbers correlated in small groups that are put together. I use this method to memorize pi and I'm almost to 200 digits. The memory palace is not actually all that great for numbers.

It's actually very good? A ton of memory experts use it and I believe the person with the highest record also uses it. And it's not just the memory palace itself. It's the entire method of loci. Many people use it, and it's for sure not slow if you've practiced with it.

Why would you forget the letter? That's literally the least worrisome thing about using a memory palace. When I use a memory palace I get scared I don't anchor images well enough or I accidentally see the ghost from some other attempt but you won't forget the letter. Try using a memory palace and you won't have any trouble trust me.

It's actually unreal how effective this method is. You dont even have to visualize a physical space, just creating stories by word association almost permanently burns information into your brain.... and they dont even have to make sense, if they have a strong enough emotional significance, or any kind of outlier characteristics that make them stick. I came across this method while studying Japanese Kanji characters, following the "Heisig" method, which is basically this. EDIT: Recently got halfway through the Jōyō Kanji: 1200/2200... still going strong. Anki is a godsent

well there are some perverted scenes that play in my memory place but usually i either: a) 'print' it onto a paper, crumple it, and throw it away to a pit of black nothingness/burning lava on the floor (depends on my mood) or... b) swipe it away (may need hand gestures (i do)) and *quickly* replace it with smthg innocent like your favorite animal/tv show/etc. (i emphasized 'quickly' because, in my experience, if im not quick enough, the scene will stay longer and is harder to remove) hope this helps (though nobody asked)

DocSenpai Actually no. It turns your memory centers on this way. When you try remembering a string of numbers that have no application then your brain treats it as a temporary memory. When you memorize a story like his then it becomes a more permanent memory that will stay far beyond a memory of numbers.

So these guys typically have pre-assigned images for each sequence of numbers. So for him, 141 is always a druid and 592 is always a Libyian. From what I remember from his book, most memory champions create specific images for every two digit number (00 to 99). Very few have created a unique image for every three digit number (000 to 999). You need 10 times as many images using this second method, but you end up requiring few images for a sequence of numbers.
