I cannot thank you enough for this video. I agree with you 100%. I’m at the collegiate level now. It’s definitely frustrating sometimes. Lima, you didn’t even mention nutrition factors. I am at lower level school that has an extremely low budget. We’ve made PB&Js for the guys many times. But when they go home? Mom has them eating and somehow they pack on the pounds. When I was at the high school level, I actually had a private coach shit all over my “winter break packet”. Ripped it to shreds and the kids dad ended up coming to school after break to confront me about it. That’s never a good feeling. Thought I was going to lose my job all because of a “coach” I’d never met. Shout out to all the high school and Collegiate coaches out there.

Really liked your Buddy Morris interview by the way. My background is Olympic WL and I've competed and coached for some time now. I agree those lifts are NOT a necessity for athletes. I can coach the snatch and clean, and with most kids even just the clean requires too much coordination and is time consuming for too high a risk (wrists, shoulders, and back) and too little return. Of course there are above average or high level coordinated people who can execute a safe effective hang clean and if the sport requires some force absorption (throwers, football players, rugby) sure we can incorporate it. My old argument FOR the hang power clean for contact athletes and throwers was the external force absorption on the catch is useful and tough to train, but Cal Dietz demonstrated (with a force plate) a higher force absorption option which is easier to coach/implement using bands and a trap-bar, so my mind changed!

Thank you for the kind words about Buddy and with the Olympic lifts. Just think how bad it would be for an athlete to not be able to play or practice because of a wrist injury from cleaning

Many athletes yes. But HUGE difference between Olympic weight lifters vs football players.
