I think the only other real "Comedy" movie that Tom Cruise has been in was Goldmember, where he was playing the on screen movie version of Austin Powers, and it was only a few seconds. We've been missing out on 40 years of him being funny. He's always been cast in serious roles. He has some untapped potential for comedy.

"I don't drop character 'til I've done the DVD commentary" Funniest thing is he did it. The DVD commentary for this movie has Robert Downey Jr still doing the Lincoln Osiris voice, then he does the Kirk Lazarus voice, then it finally ends with him doing his real voice.

I had the DVD for this movie and please believe me when I tell you that watching the movie with the commentary on with Stiller, Black and Downey Jr was even funnier. They were all great, but RDJ was off the hook from start to finish. The shit that came out of his mouth on the fly was a riot. I cannot recommend it to you enough.

There are a few movies similar to this one, but the two closest movies I can think of in comparable style and humor are “The Great White Hype” and “Bowfinger”. Both movies have all star casts and are very funny as well. Enjoy

This movie is hysterical. There's a cut of this somewhere with deleted scenes that I didn't even know existed for the longest time. Most of it is character exposition, but RDJ has a line about being "lost in the jungle with Captain Simplejack" that still cracks me up. He is a legend.

Loved this movie when it came out! Me and my ex's girlfriend loved it, my ex didn't (writing on the wall ;) Anyway my favorite part was actually when they took Tug and moving him through the building and they pass a window with sunlight showing through. Tug reacts like he's a vampire and honestly I'm still laughing today when I think of that scene
