Definitely Nevaeh signature lick! He throws it in on some of the songs on Van Halen too as well. Good job

Great video, and a cool lick. I’ve never seen the live Panama you refer to, and that may be what he does in that song, however Eruption is slightly different. You’re playing the correct notes but the E that comes after the Eb on the G string is an open E string instead of the fretted E on the B string. I know this because he plays the exact same lick in Somebody Get Me A Doctor, only it’s 2 frets higher in the key of B. You can clearly hear the open E string in that solo. Above all that, great video!

Hey, ah ok well I'll have to check that out! I've just always assumed it's played this way but I'm sure you can do it both ways. Either way it's a cool effect and I'll have a look at the way you mentioned for personal use! Thanks for the comment :)

Hey man, if you're interested, the way that Ed played this lick is as follows: An upstroke on the high e string. Followed by a "hammer on from nowhere" on the 8th fret of the b string, then a pull of to the 5th fret of the b string, followed by a pull off to the open b string. Then, another "hammer on from nowhere" on the 8th fret of the g string. So only one note in the entire lick is actually picked - the open high e. You can see the single upstroke motion on that live Panama clip you mentioned in the video. Combine that with a bit of palm muting with the right hand, and it sounds exactly the way Ed played it. Ed extends this idea of "hammers on from nowhere" to other areas of the neck, as well. Here is an excellent video which covers many of these licks. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hoTFg2dsnq-dgcksi=pAf6_B-yv1Bnp39I Hope this helps!

Sort of a studder effect with the added open string pull off.

Yes that's a good way of describing it!

If your going to do these videos like this could i please ask you to go through it slowly mechanically what each of your fingers are doing and how you build up the speed? Cause i figure you start slow get accurate and natural rhythm carries you to go faster and faster… it would help me anyway with stealing this and incorporating it in my playing, which granted currently sucks but i’m going to get better at some point just think that linda explination would help me more thang this.
