Goalies have it so much harder than skaters when they’re slumping imo. As bad as Huberdeau has been, he’s still in the NHL, and he can do tons of bad plays and mistakes without having them show up on the scoresheet. If the goalie makes a streak of mistakes, that’s a streak of goals…

100%. If a skater makes a mistake then that might mean he's putting extra pressure on the defence or goalie. A goalie making a mistake is almost by definition a goal against. The margins are so much thinner.

@@timchumichuck306 I don’t think that’s the case with Campbell. I’m willing to bet that if he had a Time Machine, he would have stayed in Toronto for less money where he was doing well. You are correct about the welfare babies - the ones that work hard in a contract year then float and party after getting a big pay increase. That’s also on foolish and sometimes desperate GM’s who don’t do their homework and lock in a guy based on a one year performance.

@@thebigpicture2032 Based on averages, I would bet you are wrong. Did kadri stay in Colorado to win more cups or go to Calgary to get paid? Usually players don't care that much about winning now they just want to be paid. Toronto was cap full and so Campbell moved for more money. His actions speak for themselves. I'm not going to pretend to know what he's thinking but I can guess based on the obvious. Campbell is playing with amateurs and making a killing. He's on easy street. And now all he has to do is wait to be bought out by Edmonton's shit management team and they can then overpay some other garbage player. The cycle of pro sports continues

@@HeyThereImDead You dont know what youre talking about either. You can't compare recreational hockey to pro hockey of course, but you can talk about goaltender confidence. A large part of goaltending is mental, we call it "confidence" but it's so much more than that. It's flow state. It's predicting and anticipating the play. Unconscious reaction time. Knowing shooter tendencies. Reading the body language and stick angle of the shooter. If your mental game is off, saves that you would normally make routinely feel impossible. So much of goaltending is "confidence" and getting into that flow state. Campbell is clearly fighting the puck right now, he makes even routine stops look difficult.

Oh man, it’s almost like Jack Campbell’s weaknesses as a goalie are getting even more exposed now that he doesn’t have NHL level defense around him. I’ve been saying it since he played in Toronto, and Eck, you said it in the video; rebound control is non-existent with this guy. Anytime I’ve watched Campbell play (and it’s been a lot since my dad is a leafs fan) i almost always hear the announcer go “Shot - Save by Campbell, BIG REBOUND OUT FRONT”. Not to pick any goalie out in particular but what has made Vasyilevsky so good over the last 3-4 years is, yes some spectacular desperation saves, but the guy NEVER gave up any rebounds. Offenses rarely got a second chance off him and that made him incredibly hard to score on before you add in the defense core in front of him. Campbell on the other hand kicks huge rebounds right back into the slot, and he does it frequently. It’s unfortunate but if wants to get back he needs to work on that rebound control, I think he can do it and I believe he can rebound and get back to the show. It sucks to see him get exposed this bad.

its American coaching, idk how long he stayed in USNTDP before he went to windsor, but all american goalies in the USNTDP have poor rebound control. when we would play an american team in peewee we just fire low shots all day and score rebounds. Idk if it was the curriculum at the time but US goalies had some weird focus on keeping the puck in play by trying to angle a rebound into a zone breakout.

There's so much pressure on goalies, if you're a goal scorer who goes on a scoring drought, you can still help out the team with good puck possession, good defence, getting assists. As a goalie you have one job, stop the puck that's it, you have nothing else you can do to help out and make up for your lack of something else.

When you see the replays, a lot of these goals are rebounds. Not an excuse, just saying two things need to happen. 1. Goalie needs to protect the puck when making saves and avoid having the puck come out right in front of him after the initial save and 2. his defensemen need to do a better job of tying the guy up in front of the goalie so they can't bang the rebound home. Some guys make it to the pros without being good. Not very often but it happens.

Come one, the Oilers made a perfect example on how to run down a goalie. That`s all mental. His stats were the better ones when he was sent down. His first start was that blowout vs. VAN to open the season, 75% SV - but the Oilers were no where read to play this game. The 2nd game he won with 97,7% in Nashville with a great performance. 3rd was the game in Philly where the Oilers had another off night, he saved 87,5%. His worst game was vs Wild with 80,6% - followed by 85,3% vs Nashville again, when the Oilers were super bad. Skinner had worse stats when Campbell was sent down and both of them took a lot of blame for a team that just played horrible. For the last 2 games, the Oilers defended way better. Campbells mind is done now, that whole process is in his head right now. And who wouldn`t? Basically the Oilers did give up on him after one bad game and a not so good one, despite he had a good preseason and had played behind a lousy defense. He won it in Nahsville for them and it didn`t count a thing. Oilers are one of the worst GMed franchise in the league. They will activate Brown, though he`s no where near a 4m player and his next game will cost 3,225m of bonus against next seasons cap. They will not win this year, and they will not win next year. Campbell knows he will get bought out or traded and bought out.

Everyone’s talking about Matt Petgrave’s arrest being unfair, but what he did was the definition of manslaughter and has to be held liable weather he meant it or not.

I think he should take a break and come back. Maybe get his eyes checked or reflexes checked, I don't even know. Being a goalie is tough, especially if the team in front of you isn't playing well enough.

Issue here is, what incentive does Jack have to even compete or comeback. He got his bag, WHILE dealing with potential career hindering/ending injuries. Now he's clearly unmotivated and just riding out the years left in his contract. The AHL is FILLED with guys playing their skates off just to get a sniff of the show for a few games. If he doesn't find his old self and get focused again, I expect him to be done before he's 35.

The issue was never woodcroft... the issues with my favorite hockey club in the entire world are poor managment decisions with wages and betting on players.. 5m salary cap hit for a .819 save percentage to be in between the pipes for your franchise farm team just highlights the miswoah's of management .... but still loyal to my oil as always -_-

Ouch!!!? Campbell is having a rough time!!?? That sucks for oilers!? Burning 5 million a season for Campbell and he's not even doing good at AHL level!!?? Damn that's rough!!!?

being a tendy is hard work, a bad slump could mean career ending. the grind you have to do just to make your debut. if you are a tendy and your goal is the nhl. you are going to have to live breath eat butterflies like crazy man

Blame Holland for giving up such a risky contract on a 30 year old goalie with 130 NHL games. Only reason nobody cared about him last year is because Skinner played well. Campbell was bad last year too.

Didn't Campbell just say publicly that he was surprised by the demotion because he didn't think he was playing that bad? Yeesh, I might be able to come out of the beer leagues and put up some similar numbers. (Probably not in reality but, the fact that is even a thought is telling)

He's got the yips for sure.. as a goalie.. been there.. feels loke you can't make a save to save your life.. often all you need is one big save or a greasy win to get your confidence back and get out of that funk

I think he needs to read a page from Mike Dikta he was an NFL player that played for the Chicago bears and with the bears he was amazing but the he gets traded to the eagles and does really bad to the point where he is thinking of retiring then comes Tom Landry of the Dallas cowboys he calls him saying look I wanna trade for you but idk if you can still play I will take a chance on you if you can take a chance on yourself
