He doesn’t just sing… he reaches into his soul for expression similar to Diamond and Elvis.

This is one of my favorite MATCHBOX 20 songs. I especially like how in the beginning of the song he was trying to appear detached from everything going on around him, but when he gets to the part : If you see me out you don't know me, try to turn your head, try to give me some room, to figure out just what I'm going to do. He howls the last line like he's a wolf in distress. It is so effective and even made you tilt your head like an animal would to try to decipher the intention of that change in his voice.

I used to listen to Matchbox 20 all the time as a kid. To the point they were my favorite band growing up and even when Rob went to do his solo stuff I was still a big fan. I always loved songs like this but coming back as an adult to re-listen to their older stuff I suddenly began to understand what they were singing about.

I love that you kind of just took a min after it was done to let it set in. This is a great one to take in, it takes awhile to fully settle. One of the better self reflecting songs when you didn’t really plan on self reflecting

Wow. I came to this video because I was looking for someone to react to Rob Thomas, because I just really, really get so much enjoyment from his music. I just feel like how can anyone NOT love Matchbox 20? But your videos (I've now seen two) gave me so much more. I am so happy I stumbled upon your videos. Your analyses dig deeper than I've delved certainly, and your personal experiences and morality jive so well with how I feel and what I think, but go beyond my experiences as well. I can't wait to hear more. Thank you for putting out this positivity into the world. Despite all of our flaws and negative experiences, we deserve better. I hope many people are able to get something from this. I have.

Rob Thomas is such a passionate songwriter, the best ever in my lifetime. I fell in love with this album in the 90s and he is still the same, even better now, matured voice with the same passion. I love him, his wife, his band, his heart for people. He is such a great person. Every song touches my heart ❤️

I watched this reaction like twice in a row. Do you understand how rare it is to get someone who actually listens and reacts to songs like these rather than just bop to it, make some random comment about it being good without having any understanding or even trying to know what the song is about? You are rare find, my friend.

He was a song about cheating on your significant other. "If you see me out, you don't know me, try to turn your head, try to give me some room, to figure out just want I wanna do!" I knew the meaning of it when I heard it the first time, but he explained it at the concert the other night.

I always thought that line was about a split-up couple running into each other when the emotions are still raw. The beauty of music.... it speaks to what you know or have experienced.
@1trueloveforever10 ай бұрын
@@AndyMatts44 true , I have considered this as one of the prospective scenarios and alternatively, if anyone he knows sees him out , don't judge or ask questions or run back to his significant other and tell them about the compromising position you've seen him in.

When you grow up and lose your innocence. To look back on ourselves as a child we are aware we are different and have been sullied. We become aware that we are imperfect sinners and long for when we were pure, and really want to get back to good. Rob points out we are sinners but there are those who judge, ostracise, and punish others for the same things they are guilty of. Great song we all can relate to. The more you listen to and unpack it the more you get out of it. My favourite MB20 song.

Living this life-existence in a loving manner and don't perpetually recriminate yourself for your shortcomings. Rob Thomas's passionate singing accompanied with well written lyrics and, of course, instrumental mastery made Matchbox 20 a very influential band of the 90's. His solo work is very good as well...

Also the song is about cheating. "everyone here is wondering what its like to be with somebody else." "if you see me out, you dont know me. try to turn your head, try and give me some room. i'll figure out just what i'm gonna do" "and it's best if we all keep this quiet instead" "and everyone here gets caught up in the pleasure of the pain, yeah well, everyone here hides shades of shame." "but it's over now, yeah i don't know how, guess it's over now, there's no gettin' back to good." just some examples :) i loved your review.

Corvine Crusader:Back to good is trying to reattain the innocence we have as children and all lose in the course of growing up. We are all vice ridden,unfaithful,etc. "wondering what it's like to be with somebody else",and that there's no clean hands,that no one individual or group is to blame for the coarsening of the human race;"everyone here hides shades of shame"Rob address a girl,who may be a prostitute,seeing her be degraded wondering wether or not to comment,offer to take her away in exchange for her company because he's so terriblely lonely.Knowing the seedy folks about them both are treating them as fools,marks,and prey."I couldn't tell why everyone was treating me like they do",with all involved no more or less a sinner than the next,gain joy from sharing misery."Caught up in the pleasure or the pain".Rob Thomas body of work has strong lyrical content,which you have to live life through a melancholy lens to appreciate in full.
