If Bono & the Edge had written this tune it would be universally been recognised, acknowledged and worshipped as an iconic and timeless masterpiece! 23 is one of THE most underrated tunes ever and a band that is so deserving of more recognition for the incredible music they produce. Long live J'E'W

Glad you sat all the way through that entire last half of the song and just felt it. It really is a song you have to feel and just listen. So chill and relaxing and beautiful. Amazing song and a masterpiece like you said. Also do more Jimmy Eat World! They have so many incredible songs. If you want another long one to experience, try "Invented" one of my favorite songs of theirs.

I love this song. Always have. It reminds me of my days as a college student - stupid, young, romantic, and hopelessly in love with this girl, trying to convince her to stop dating around and take me seriously: "you'll sit alone forever if you wait for the right time; what are you hoping for?" I wish I could go back and tell myself back then that those lyrics applied equally to me. I wasted so much time waiting on one girl when there was a whole ocean out there I could have easily moved on to.

I feel like "A Praise Chorus" has a similar sentiment, and, like you, it takes me back to my college days. It resonated with me SO MUCH back then. I was so shy and felt so incredibly awkward and couldn't work up the courage to show interest in men I liked. I tried a little bit and it didn't really work in person, but I found that I was able to feel more comfortable with online interactions. I met my husband on MySpace 😂 In the end it worked out, but I remember how sad and lonely I was (romantically) in my early adulthood and it would have been solved by just getting out of my head and saying, "What do I have to lose?"

Same brother... SAME... Wishing time would hurry and pass so whatever destiny would hurry up and get here... then nothing... I pissed away the best years of my life "sitting alone forever... if you wait for the right time"

for me as well. college days, heartbreak song. I've listened to this song so many times to be able to work out emotions. And it still takes me back to 20 years back and the pain I felt. It doesnt matter to me anymore of course but its like the song is a mermory drive with all the old feelings on it.

Yeah, man. This song and album came out a week after my 23rd birthday and felt like it spoke to me directly. So much uncertainty back then just graduating college, no job yet, had a girlfriend I loved but felt inadequate due to not have a job yet. This song really kicked my ass. I've listened to it literally several hundred times over the years and it takes me right back to those times, the anxiety I felt of figuring out the world. "You'll sail alone forever if you wait for the right time." I probably did the opposite of this and broke up with the girl and went to grad school. Life can be hard at that age.

Finally, the volume of the song and your comment is so balanced without overwhelming each other. This type of skill is pretty rare fora commentary/reaction view. Keep it up! I'm subbing... BTW, this is my most favorite track from the band. Kinda personal and uplifting during my past years.

Haha, I was thinking purple right as you said that you saw colors. Purple is definitely a fitting color for this song somehow. Absolutely beatiful! Another one of their songs that you just have to feel is "Goodbye Sky Harbor", but it's 16 minutes long so maybe not fit for a full reaction but you need to listen to it anyway :) Hope you get to enjoy a lot more Jimmy Eat World songs in the future man

The entirety of their albums Clarity, Bleed American, Futures, and Chase This Light are masterpieces... That being said, if I could pick one song... just one Jimmy Eat World song... "Dizzy" off of Chase this Light... It's essentially like "23", the closer of that album... It's my favorite song by my favorite band... And just a note... about the innocence of youth... I remember vividly when Futures came out... I was working a crap job for very little pay. The girl I wanted chose another guy and married him, and all I had was a junk mustang and time on my hands... Life was just moving SO SLOW... I wished time would hurry up and pass to get me to that "good part" of life where everything was just fine and no more worries, problems, loneliness, etc... I'd give anything to tell my former self that I was LIVING IT... Before I lost my grandparents, before I lost my faith, before I lost two loves of my life, before I turned to the bottle... before I hit rock bottom... God, I'd give anything to be 19 again, just cruising around with nowhere to go and plenty of time to kill. No social media, no smartphones, no KZbin... Just going out driving for hours and seeing how far you could go... I remember thinking about 23 "man, that's a few years from now..." Now, for me, 23 was 16 years ago... I'm on the verge of 40 and I probably have less years left on this earth than I've been on it... It's terrifying when you feel like you pissed it all away... and you'll never get it back...

I like their music a lot. I'd call them more alternative than pop punk. I think alternative is a very broad category, though, maybe too broad. Pop punk is an interesting category too. A lot of people hear 'punk' used in any way at all, and they shy away. The Clash were considered punk, but they were pop punk, and only punk really in attitude. Train in Vain, Rock the Casbah for example, straight pop. At least in my opinion. I'm looking forward to your reaction to Jimmy Eat World's newest: Something Loud too. What you said about naivete and being honest. Kids are so honest, and I get along really well with kids, to the point I hang out with them at get togethers over adults sometimes, and it's because I enjoy not listening to bs, and to receiving and giving honesty. I get looks and uncomfortable silences sometimes when I ask things around people I know a little better than not (I watch myself around those I don't more) because I ask things and say things that most don't, It isn't that I ask or say outrageous things. It's more that I ask things most people just don't. It's weird, but it's who I am whether it's naive or unacceptable, and so on. I do have some close to me who I feel like I can ask or say most anything, and I do, and most are not just okay, but seem to enjoy our discussions. They open up more sometimes. Do you have any form of synesthesia by any chance?
