The Berber horse is notorious for terrifying other horses with its aggressive personality. That's why the Moroccan cavalry had so many victories in the past even if they lack of equipement and tactics.

People dont realize that all our Favorite breeds in the world took some of the strongest Barb traits, and yet we tried to wipe them out, and even still they are hardly mentioned or desired. Horses like The Andalusian, Lusitano, Alter Real, Qh, Paso Fino, Appy, and Mustangs. Even the robust and high withered deep chested features of the TB, Warmbloods, Ears in the STB and Joints. Draft horses as well and even ponies.

For some reason the Turk and Barb are left out, yet there part was incredibly strong. Turk is obvious in the overall structure of the tb, the trotters, gaited horses, the marwari, warmbloods like the selle francis, saddlebred, and stb.

Hi Brittany - Odd question: Do you have any idea what breed (or forefather of a modern breed) of horses might have been run at the chariot races in the Hippodrome of Constantinople during the Byzantine Empire circa 1200 A.D. (as opposed to in the Circus Maximus of Rome circa 200 A.D.) Is there a Berber/Arabian cross breed? (I am writing a historical novel, and the history of horse breeding is… not brought up much in the sources.)

They did the same with the Turkoman for awhile until dna showed up and the history started being openly shared through rhe akhal Teke

@@brucefreadrich1188 they believe it was the ancestor of the turkoman and they have very possible evidence for this. As the akhal Teke breeders will tell you that themsleves. The phonotyoe was very similar and they believe the turkoman (Akhal Teke) has the oldest phonotype of any horse breed. Some believe it may even be older then the Arabian.

Even lusitano and andalusian( initially the same breed) horses come from barb horse with local iberian wild horses like sorraia. In portugal we also have a "special" breed known as "alter real" wich are the horses used in high shcool of dressage. This "brand" was a posterior mix of lusitano plus barb horses from morocco. Almost same size, behavor, way of galoping etc etc . Tahyati w salaam
