This persistentance and cargo refactoring is really a game changer in terms of emergent gameplay. Say a player is hauling a caterpillar fully loaded with say something valuable. How many crates are there after pops? What happens when their aggressor gets interrupted in their salvage by some other random players? @EricVidfarne2 жыл бұрын
Regarding manually placing boxes in the Vulture: the ship will hold other salvage than just RMC in the future (like guns, components, fuel etc) so I imagine that's the reason for you to go down and decide where things should be placed. I hope this is future proofing.
@ThirsttyRecon2 жыл бұрын
Youre overthinking it. All that it is, is the devs wanted a way to force multicrew on the reclaimer for more than 2 people and they thought manually stacking boxes is peak gameplay so they designed salvaging around this. Its terrible design and even a remote operated tractor crane system is far more ideal. The reclaimer even hilariously splits the output and the cargo so you are forced to bring 2 extra men to play pass the box
@EricVidfarne2 жыл бұрын
@@ThirsttyRecon I was referring to the Vulture in this case but yes, I also believe that was a big part of CIGs reasoning. I'd prefer if they had an "auto-stacker" system in the Reclaimer for up to 20 SCU. The ship has cranes in the cieling of the cargohold after all. After 20 or so you'd have to go back and re-arrange your cargo manually. Either that or they could add a remote station on the bridge that would handle the cargo.
@sphinxoforion74222 жыл бұрын
@@ThirsttyRecon Remember. The handheld tractor beam won't the jack of all trades in the future. Its just a tool that works perfectly fine in the game currently, so they get you to use it for now. The Reclaimer also has a gold standard coming in the future. So the potential for a cargo crane isn't out of the picture. The Reclaimer is also waiting Salvage T1 & T2 To use the claw & mulcher. To the multicrew stuff; Stacking boxes isn't too bad honestly, Its very chill. Slap on some music, or do what I did, and have a laugh with boys; Just joking around, having a drink, havin a time. About the Vulture; I also don't mind that. It prevents ya from getting too idle, instead of sat down staring the screen while you fill the 16SCU, it makes ya be a bit more aware, and keeps the brain from entering autopilot. It also allows for 2 ship operation: The Vulture and another ship with a cargo bay of at least 16scu, fly out someone for salvage like the halo belt, have the pilot of the cargo ship get in the Vulture and be on box duty, then once the ship is full; Fly off to port and sell, split the profit, and fly back out. Keeps the Vulture in the field for longer so you're making more aUEC/hr.

Not sure where CIG wants to go with racing, but I think having death looming over the race could be a nice addition, so you have to challenge yourself without pushing too hard. The moving of the boxes make sense to me when salvaging especially in the context of how the game will play in the future. The mining boxes will have to be moved manually in the future as well, the only reason they are not currently is because of the mechanics and tech not being there yet. You will also have NPCs or friends move things for you most likely so it will be less tedious.
@timothyt.82 Жыл бұрын
There are no mining boxes when you mine because all your ore gets funneled into a large bag. If you look at a Prospector or MOLE you can see the saddlebags (as they are called in game if I am not mistaken) where all your mined ores go. I think what you're referring to is the processed ore, which will be put into cargo boxes after they are refined.

Something i've been wondering about PES, how will it make sure it doesn't get too cluttered or performance heavy? In a massive multiplayer game, things pile up quickly, like will common fighting locations be filled with corpses and shipwrecks up to your waist after enough time? Hell how will it handle persistence between servers? If someone in your location in a different server crashes their ship in your location, will their wreck pop op infront of you, or will it appear when you leave the area and return? Does it choose what objects from one server to be persistent in another, or is it across every single server? You know, asking myself all these questions makes me understand why it took so long to get this in the game

Based on time vs importance. Ships have a far higher importance than the empty water bottles and soda cans we toss away in space stations. Now just because they said that it's based on time and importance, doesn't mean we know the exact intricacies til later. It could be time since the entity was created or time since the last time a player saw it.
@xsvforce33352 жыл бұрын
On your last point about the time to develop the persistent entity streaming, yes, this is mad tech. It required a complete decoupling of various services from a single game server to multiple servers and a database. That would be a pretty incredible feat if this was plan from the start. In this case, it required a complete splitting of the multitude of intertwined and codependent services to be independent while responsively coordinating. I am not a developer or anything but just the basic premise seems like an incredible feat to me. I imagine an incredible amount of code that needed to be sifted through, reverse engineered, and re-engineered to work.

Great video and thank you for the continued Star Citizen coverage LevelCap! I completely agree with you: inserting a pointless manual step moving cargo boxes around on both the salvage ships is ridiculous: they’re specialist salvage ships, so it makes complete sense it’s all automated including stacking. I can see the unload then being needed to be manually handled with cargo refactor later, but this isn’t the situation. I’m just therefore left thinking CIG wanted to show off the cargo grid snapping etc, and didn’t consider this was ridiculous or sacrificing fun for a pointless grind. It’s even more absurd on a factory ship like the Reclaimer, forcing them to also mess around dropping boxes and tractoring them all over the place for low UEC. As if any human players would long term volunteer to be the box mover boy as crew on a Reclaimer. This is 100% an area CIG will need to address. The general principle should be that if a ship specializes in something, it does it well (eg mining, salvage), and if it’s a generalist that also handles that area (think the ships with cargo space that aren’t dedicated cargo with RAFT modularity or Caterpillar tractor beams), then there it’s more manual. So if we have some ships with some basic salvage or hull scraping capabilities as an extra feature later, sure have at it making it manual like this. But not the Vulture and Reclaimer, that’s silly.

It be cool to like hit a button or something before soft death to like shield the cockpit area or some other areas where the crew might have a higher chance to live, if soft death becomes really hard to survive. Idk just an idea

Manipulating the cargo should be something that you could hire another player to do at a major hub (like a bar) in some kind of process similar to join party, that way it encourages community co-op. Kinda related to how I wish they'd make an incentive to crowd bars and mingle with other players to do just this sort of thing, generating some kind of cred XP mingling, overhearing the need for a 'cargo hand' for example at a nearby table, and bingo, Hired.

In regards to getting back to the server instance you were in - not sure if you can invite your friends to join your session, but if you could, technically it should be possible to have group of friends play 24/7 and just keep re-inviting each other, no?

Yes that is possible.

I like the features though I think the devs could add an automation upgrade that could added to ships
@ReyconArcane Жыл бұрын
The features are amazing, been looking forward to this patch for months, i refused to play PTU so i live release would be refreshing. After the long wait in can now finaly get out of that hangar and crash every 15min without any error message. Gotta love them 'known issues' :D Here's to hoping for a ton of hotfixes in the upcoming days. This is why CIG should just work till it's finished and clean for PU instead of listening to those crying because it's been in PTU for +6 months. Back to the waiting game.

Assuming this sort of thing is planned, I would imagine just upgrading what could fit per cube would make it less tedious. I think this current take on it makes the most sense and has way more potential gameplay wise. A Vulture filling up to 100% while you just sit there, leaving, selling, coming back, repeat I'd argue is way more boring and lackluster in gameplay, and the potential for interesting encounters.

100% agree with you on the moving of cargo boxes in salvage. I've been saying the same thing since evo testing

I really don't get why people complain so much about the RCM box mechanic. Moving the boxes is the only real player input that is required with salvaging, everything else is pretty hands off. The system scales pretty poorly if they stick with 1x1 SCU boxes though in the Reclaimer. CIG made pretty clear that they don't want gameplay loops that play themselves, like mining in Eve Online for example, but want player input. With mining you have to manage laser intensity, usage of mining gadgets etc and the risk of blowing up. None of that is present with hull scrapping. Later down the road when mining ships get another pass you will need to manage the ore distribution on the refinery console as well and detatch and manually move them just like the RCM boxes. The layout of the Vulture is annoying though with the 2 level layout broken up by the annoying ladder.
@tophatvideosinc.58582 жыл бұрын
As far as manually moving the boxes go. Sure, cig could have done it different. They could have added a robot arm to move the boxes for you, which means having to implement an entirely new system into the game and you'll never see it while in the cockpit anyway. They could have also foregone any movement and have the boxes just... Appear. But not only is that not how cig rolls usually but it also makes the hull scraping loop MASSIVELY bland. The decision to implement the tractor tool as the means to move boxes around is a practical choice that add a break to the monotony of just holding down the laser button for ages only to move to the next area, scan and repeat. It also helps players who don't often make the effort to always be equipped with one get more familiar with the tool and more consistently use one, as demonstrated by you perfectly. In general, the multi tool should always be equipped and it's the first thing besides water you should by in bulk and store at your Regen locations along with it's associated attachments. Anyway, I'm glad that the vulture requires it and it makes sense for an entry level scrap ship to be more hands on than it's larger, and far more expensive uncle the reclaimer.

SUPER AGAINST having respawn locations at race tracks, or even vehicle spawn locations - that's bad, bad bad and doesn't at all match the vision for the game at all
@Toutvids2 жыл бұрын
Do you think race drivers in the real world drive their cars to the track? Nope. Learning the track is part of the fun, we don't need race lines and crap like that, however they could improve some of the markers from what I have seen and maybe delineate the track better with edge boundary markers.
