The helmet mechanic is clumsy, I agree. What I usually do is take it off in a space station/port so I don't have to listen to myself Darth Vadering while walking around. I chuck it in my backpack. Then, scatter-brained me: I forget to put it back *on* before walking out onto the pad.

One really useful thing i noticed recently is that, when you land at a planetary outpost, the building that has the buy/sell terminal is the one with the sort of orange, c-shaped antenna sticking out of it, usually with some lights on it. Saves a lot of frustration and opening multiple airlocks when you know that. If your ship is getting blown over by the wind on the Microtech moons - land with your nose facing the wind. Keeping your velocity limiter in the blue makes your ship more manoeuvreable

Huge tip: If you intend to make millions quickly make your first big money purchase a prospector. As a fellow new player myself I know how tempting it is to save for a dream ship but I went from investing all of my money on the Prospector to making that money back in a few days.

@@DJLKM1 Yea my intention was to try and learn asteroid mining since it feels like the next step up from ROC mining, but it was just a disaster all round. Ship randomly exploded, ore never refined, asteroids randomly exploded (even ones I wasn't mining) pirates constantly attacked, and the list goes on. I can make really good money renting a Roc and Cutlass, to the point where I can buy a Mole, but I'm very hesitant because of my time with the Prospector

Though ive not had a good time ROc mining, couple of runs ive been on my ship ended up vanishing just as i stepped off it and another attempt i got a 30k, so kinda haven't bothered since. I did buy a prospector and upgraded it. Went quant mining for the first time. Didn't get alot, but refined it, moved it to my Max that was stored, called the Max only to find it spawned empty, several times. So the game basically stole my first quant runs profits lol.

@@DJLKM1 Big oof :( I've found I can get about 500k and hour just hadenite mining in the roc, more if you've got a mate to fly for you. I'll just say it's the least buggy experience I've had mining XD All though, right before Invictus I got a bug where all of my ships were removed from my account, and CIG haven't gotten back to me. Tried resets and everything. Suffice it to say I'm slightly more than a little pissed off so I think I'm giving the game a break until 3.18, or until they give my ships back XD

7:30 correction: you keep reputation. You just need to do contract evaluation missions again, but your overall reputation doesn’t reset. Also you keep everything but consumables, such as ammo and medpens.

nice tips! Some extras you could use : shortcut C when flying is cruise control, Make sure to turn it off again when landing. Ctrl - C Decouples your ship so it keeps momentum when flying, Make sure your'e flying 'coupled' when landing. Some smaller ships have low hit points, rough landing without putting down your landing gear will explode the ship (Toggle landing gear is N ) Holding F and right click will turn up your inner thought menu, there's some handy shortcuts there, like removing your helmet to drink or eat.

My first crimestat was my first take off, me and my friend in my cutty black, I go in 3rd person, I didn't realize what the mouse wheel did, I figured it did nothing as I thought it was zoom in and out while in 3rd person and I go to raise the ship off the ground and my ship flies right into the doors as they are just opening.

The Origin 100 series has the very useful party trick of being able to be called in at Platinum Bay spawn pads at outposts. Currently there are about 12 ships you can do this with, but the 100's are the least expensive and most useful. Also worth noting that with 3.17, the Mustang Alpha is getting the ability to stow mission boxes in the rear cargo area, making it a solid alternative to the Aurora, especially if you think you're going to start with combat missions.

I think one of the most confusing thing is inventory at start. When you start you don't have a backpack and the inventory you are seeing is the storage you have in the base you are at. When you jump in your ship and fly away things disappear because of that.

YESSSSS. Anvil Terrapin !! Totally pointless right now, but I still love the look of the ship. Some more stuff: 1) If you buy a new quantum drive and put it on your ship, you will need to go into the POWER MFD, the ITEMS tab, and click on the power button next to the new drive in the list, or it won't function 2) F4 is external view, but your control input is still active, which can be disorientating. When in external view, HOLD Z and then move your mouse to change the view angle without changing the vector of your ship. Release Z when you want to have control of the ship again. And when coming down to land in hangars and such, angle your external view to top-down, so you can very easily see your ship fitting through the hangar doors. 3) You need ammo and med refills individually placed on your armor in order to be able to reload. You won't reload if you have ammo in inventory only. 4) ALT X wipes your helmet visor. T turns on FPS torch. But in ships L turns on your ship lights. 5) You can share missions with people and they will share in the credit reward (such as bounty missions). the right bracket key ] is the accept option for on screen invites (which do not appear for very long, so be quick to accept) 6) Be careful about pressing BACKSPACE when in the pilot seat as its default keybind is self destruct...... 7) Leaving ships too long on landing pads or in hangars will eventually get them impounded. So don't linger too long and get them stored. 8) Pressing C while driving or flying is auto-cruise. Careful not to press this when your throttle is set to max as you will inevitably fly into something you didn't want to. Generally turn auto-cruise off just before a quantum jump too.

Probably the best starter video for Star Citizen I've seen. I expect this to be the defacto standard starting video for SC. LevelCap and Ollie are the reason why as a backer from 2012 I built a PC and started playing. Everything in this video described my first 20 hours of in game play, great advice.

Nomad is good but has its uses it is the smallest option to equip a roc mining buggy. but also offers a interior to log out in. between a cutty and titan on price just thought i would mention this.

Requesting takeoff and landing can also be done via the MFDs in the cockpit for a more immersive feel if so desired. But with the new keybind option I doubt many people will do it any other way from now on. =P You also mentioned security guards being in white or yellow armor. Security for the ArcCorp bunker missions wear red.

A good tip for quantum traveling is to go full speed when your about to jump, it seems to stop the bug where it can't keep the jump icon locked. Good luck citizen.

I would add 4 more to what he said in the video: 1) That thing that shows you where your ship is going is called the Pilot Velocity Indicator. By default it fades away when it comes near the middle of the screen which is bad because when u don't see it u don't immediately know if its off screen or or faded because its in the middle. Go into Game Options -> Pilot Velocity Indicator and change it from Fading to Always On. 2) When selecting a location on or around a planet/moon, double click the planet or moon before trying to select it. If you don't no amount of clicking will select the location. Just double click , you might zoom out, zoom back in and hover the mouse over the location and u'll see the green line allowing you to select it. 3) For the helmet just take a look in the bottom right hand corner for a faded X, it represents the ammo count of your weapon and iits only there when you have the hud from the helmet on. 4) The Voyage Quantum drive would also work and its available at more places. The starting areas like New Babbage (Omega Pro) and Baijini point (Platinum Bay) above Area 18. Coincidentally those are also the same places you can get the best starter shields for your ship as well , the Palisade.

When resetting, all you loose is your certifications, not the reputation. All you have to do after a reset is to re-do the certification missions

@@caanon565 If you eat and drink "properly" you can get your Food and Water levels over 100% even if the UI doesn't show it. The Med bed only goes to 99%, so it will start to drop "faster"

IMPORTANT TIP: When calling an elevator in Stations or Planet cities, call it and step back a few meters. Once the doors open and you see the elevator then you can sefely board it. Elevators and stair cases kill players.

You can link your ship boost to the spacebreak to have better stopping power, but some times you will still need to use the about face maneuver to slow you down quicker, and if you use spacebreak with boost at the same time it'll stop your ship faster than just rear facing and using engines. Other than that a well explained new player video, you covered a lot in this.

Something good to note, during alpha, there WILL be wipes. CIG wants to avoid wipes, but circumstances may call for inventory wipes if needed. This applies to ingame purchased stuff.

Semirelated, and in regards to losing items/ships bought with real money; Right now, subscriber armor/weapons that you buy with real cash can be lost if you die with that equipped. CIG has plans to implement some sort of ingame service to regain them again, but currently, there isnt. If you lose a subscriber item you wont get it back unless you reset your account (note, reset doesnt mean wipe). In regards to losing ships, in the future it will TECHNICALLY be possible to lose your ships if destroyed, which is why there will be insurance plans ingame that you need to keep up, but it shouldnt be too big of a hassle. Right now during alpha though, that is completely irrelevant, you wont lose your ships if they're destroyed.

Good quick guide. Many great tips in there. As for ship weapons, I prefer laser cannons. They have a fairly rapid rate of fire, but do more alpha damage, and have typically 50% more sustained DPS. So sustained DPS takes into account the recharge time of the energy weapon capacitor.

I agree canons are better for a lot of NPC missions but the projectile velocity is slower making them harder to aim. hence repeaters for new players until you start to get a feel for the game and want to experiment more.

I think (hope/assume) levelcap was referring to extended features such as magazine stripping, where instead of *throwing away* a mag that might have 3/15 bullets, you can condense the bullets into another full mag. Or instead of drag-dropping partially loaded clips around the game, being able to stack them. Quality of life features like that - not to make the experience arcade-y (not saying thats a good-or-bad thing), but to make it 'work more gooder'.

I watched enough videos to actually be able to get around the verse when I started playing the game about a month ago, I did die a couple times and the first time that I got to my spaceship and took off that was a disaster but I managed to get out of the hangar in one piece... lol. As a beginner I do recommend to try out the 4 major places that you can set as your home just to learn how to get around the verse, find the places to get your ship, how to get to the hangars, find the right elevators, where you can buy the stuff that you need for missions and not to die instantly when you exit your spaceship that will happen to pretty much everyone, you'll learn a lot just from trying out the 4 starting points and it helps to know your way around those places in the long run. I started with the Anvil Pisces C8R which is the medical rescue version, maybe it's not the best choice but I really love this little ship and found it to be pretty useful and with the custom paint I think it even looks good, this small ship is really handy to start out doing the package runs because it's small enough to literally land the ship on the doorstep and the most packages you'll have for a run at the same time in your ship is 3 which you can easily stash in your ship, I even stashed 4 small crates in it to make it easier looting all the places where you have to go to get the packages and where you have to drop the packages you'll find a lot of loot on those runs and it really helps to have those crates with you, however your ship has the biggest room to stash a ton of loot, the crates are handy because they do respawn most of the time, not always but they are handy to have as a in between place to store loot. New players with mouse and keyboard should set the decoupled key to toggle to avoid pressing by mistake and changing the flight characteristics. If you get bad frame rates on planets with clouds you should lower the details in options/graphics. The game MUST be installed on a SSD plus have 16gig or ram or forget it. There's a free flight event from the 20th May so you can try before you buy. Enjoy the verse.

@@linkinemerson8620 I think they do about 4 a year. Normally tied to some event or ship show/presentation and they usually last about a week. The hate comes in a couple of forms. From disgruntled backers that have either forgotten that it's still in development or don't have the patience to cope with the old and new bugs and uniformed so called journalists who write click bait titles condeming the progress of the project without fully understanding the scope or potential of a game that has no publisher with deadlines for their investors. The players are the investors. Montoya does some nice reports about the good and bad aspects. DG360 just makes me laugh with his perspectives and Morphologis gives good opinions on the visual design. You don't need to spend any cash to try it out or sign up but I would recommend you use someones referral code in case you take the plunge and you'll get some extra starting cash. You also dont need to buy loads of ships with real cash as most are available to purchase ingame with earnt credits. There's plenty of Zero to Hero guides on KZbin.

@@linkinemerson8620 At the mo there's no real installation as it runs from the folder so not any worries about time involved apart from your download speed. If your cuz will let you have a bash thats probably the best way to test. It is a georgous environment with no loading screens apart from elevators and some light speed travel so if you get caught, mind your wallet. Although it might seem, I'm not a white knight for the Lord Chris Roberts and also feel the darker side of the development but I'm fully aware that CiG is a business to make profit. Not a charity like many of the upset backers seem to believe. I've disturbed groups in Fu£kbook with statements like "It'll be finished when we stop buying ships" or "does Citizen Con mean Con Citizens?" so I believe I have a real hand on reality with the project progress. My biggest worry is how they will adjust the Cryengine, with a 50 player cap, into a large scale MMO with a single shard also how they will cope with latency between continents as light speed is a fixed paramiter. Part of my enjoyment for the game is following the development as I've always been interested in how it all comes together and I feel I'm not he only one. To end this. Join an Org if you like the play. It gives a completely different experiance.

Biggest tip is don't start out with that Mustang Alpha. I made that mistake and the experience has been so much better after I was gifted credits to get a new ship. Versatility is the best perk starting out so you can really test out a lot of different mission types.

Your point about not taking the mustang as the first ship for those who don't want to spent too much in the game will soon be outdated. With the 3.17.2, pilot will be able to open the storage unit of the Mustang Alpha and put boxes in it. This means it will be better than the Aurora when the update release soon (the 3.17.2 is in the PTU but not in the PU right now so for now it's still useless for delivery missions) (sorry if my english isn't good)

setting a key binding for landing doesnt have to be a double tap. that is a modifier that can be set when setting the key bind. also qt jumping is aimed by the weapon reticle not the qt reticle. big thing, space break no longer engages boost by default. to turn that on in options>game settings> scroll down in between the first 2 slider bars and it's close to the second in the list. titled "flight - space break engaged boost. space break without boost is extremely slow. otherwise you need to hold x and shift to boost brake. side note. the mustang isnt that bad. you can always do 2 quick illegal surveillance missions and rent a cutty or something a little bigger than the mustang. if someones choosing between the mustang and the aurora, obviously the 100i and bigger packages are true all in one kinds of ships. very good run down of new player advice all around. thanks for the upload to help all our new citizens.

About breathable atmospheres, i believe some of the moons with oxygen rich atmos might be breathable, I once accidentally disembarked on a moon without a helmet and to my surprise I did not suffocate! I believe that watching if your oxygen meter goes down on a planet/moon is a good indication of the breathability of its atmo.

press and HOLD Y to leave your seat. took me a while to figure it out. don't use orbital marker to go to the backside of the planet, just aim whatever say outpost you wanna go when you are reach the planet orbit, then your ship quantum drive will circle back automatically.

Neat stuff! There's a bug in the game where your head and arms disappears. You will not be able too see any/most of the UI elements. Remove helmet and see if ur head is gone, if it is gone go to the character creation screen and use the other gender.

I had good guidance being told to get the Avenger as my starter, I see peoples reasoning for it but I wish I had just gone all in on a Cutty Black. Of all the starter ships, that’s the one that welcomes a new player to the verse the very best.

Tip: Learn the quirky Advanced Camera system ASAP: TAP F4 to swap to different camera views, HOLD F4 to manipulate each camera view in different ways using additional modifier keys like Z to unlock the camera for repositioning, scroll wheel to zoom in and out, and NUMPAD * to reset the camera back that view's default view. There's plenty more but those are the basics.

Someone did this analysis and the cheap RSI thing with the door that opens to ground level was the best for box missions that then give you access to security outpost missions, it's easy in easy out and cheap to fly

The map and route system has helped me TREMENDOUSLY! It helps me focus on a jump point, only showing the jump that i want to go and not the point behind/next to it. I’m not sure why players have difficulty using that.

Space brake tip. Go into settings and turn your thrusters on with space brake. Then when you hold X, it will engage the thrusters and stop you faster. I want to say it's like "Space brake uses boost" in settings.

Oh man that manual magazine system is aweeeeesome. Really wish I could play this lol I also wish more fps games offered hardcore options like that. Where you have to choose between the speed of just dropping your current mag and losing any remaining rounds, with the prudence of putting it back in its pouch and risking the longer reload. Few more tips! To put all ships into a rdy to fly start, simply press R, this works for everything it you cant set route on star map, try and set route to another destination, quantum to the destination, can only be for a short while, then try qting to the original place

Renting ships is a good way for someone who bought that Mustang to have a usable ship for delivery missions. The rental is pretty cheap even for the Cutlass (though I prefer the cheaper Avenger Titan), and once you get to those level 2 delivery missions you're paying your entire daily rental cost off of one mission. Don't worry about blowing up the ship, you can still reclaim it like any ship you own (only fee is the expedite fee if you want it quicker.)

Here's another tip people usually don't give, which is from actual real-life astronauts: When doing the initial approach to a space station, you usually will go full speed, don't aim your reticle straight for the station. Aim slightly off (look for a bit of empty space between the pylons or whatever). If you miscalculate your speeds, you won't crash this way. Only once you're close to the station and at a safe maneuvering speed aim for your final destination (i.e. landing pad).

It makes sense that you would hold onto spent mags. Magazines are pretty expensive irl and you don't want to give free stuff to the enemy. Besides, in the future we'll be buying the bullets. They won't be coming combined with the magazines eventually. And for energy cells CiG has said we will be able to recharge them someday.

Diamond icons: Large diamonds = OM (Outer Marker) points and Small Diamonds = other destinations like Lagrange point (e.g. MIC- L1 = The first of multiple Lagrange points Mictrotech for a major planet). If you cannot plot a QT course from the planet or moon you are at, fly to any OM point or Space station around it (you will have to do this by sight, OM points do not show up in the map). When QT'ing to a mood or planet often times you will come out of QT inside the boundaries of the Orbital Markers. This will prevent you from getting line of sight to the other Outer Markers. Turn your ship away from the planet and look for a large diamond among all the small diamonds. The large ones is the Outer Marker you will need to QT toward to access the other Outer Markers. You can QT directly from orbit to any location on the planet's or moon's SURFACE you are even if they are on the other side... but this will not work if you are too low... SOMETIMES even if you are well out of the planet or moon's atomosphere it still won't work until you QT to one of the OM's. You cannot target other ships if your QT interface is still up.

I think the 100i is the best starter ship. It has plenty of room for box missions. I would also set my home to Lorville. It's centrally located making it easier to go anywhere in the system.

Got that Mustang like 1-2 years ago, but only started playing now. It's a beautiful ship, but yeah, was very disappointed to see the cargo stuff is not working yet. Cutlass Black is the way to go. Once the cargo stuff is finished though, I think the Mustang will be even better.

I continue to recommend the Mustang Alpha over the Aurora MR. Box missions & having a bed aren't deal-breakers vs. being more agile, having more fun flying, a better view from the cockpit, and having more firepower (2xS2 & 2xS1 -- all on gimbals) for the easiest way to earn quickly right now: PVE bounty contracts, bunkers, and investigations... and as you have an easier time & more fun earning your first aUEC... you can then buy any other ship in-game that you like, including an Aurora... but let's not be silly. Always start with a Cutlass Black for 1,385,300 aUEC. 😎

Biggest tips for navigation - game doesn't like navigating to orbital stations on the opposite side of planets/moons, if you navigate to a ground jump point below a station it will save you some grief. - orbital markers are your friends, if it's not setting a waypoint, manual jump to an OM and try again - jumping to asteroid stations allow you to jump twice, first one usually lands you about 70km from the actual station jump point, jump again to end up only 20km out

Alright guys, watching the expo stream this year finally convinced me to jump in and i'm loving it, even if as he says, it teaches you basically nothing lol. My question; is there a way to find clans/orgs that fit your intended playstyle in your region? Such games like this are bound to be better with others, and i'm sure a life of crime is going to be a painful learning curve lol.
