Loved the video @ProfNCognito! Can't wait for the next video man! So now your Hydrofoil Tug can do 130 Knots. So 1 Knot is 1.15 mph, which means that you can do 149.5, say 150 mph. That's pretty fast for a Boat to be honest, I don't even think the U.S. Navy Pegasus-class Hydrofoils went that fast. *Looks them up on Wikipedia* Yeah, they went 48 Knots Foilborne or 55.2 mph and USS Aries (PHM-5) is the Only one of the 6 Built preserved out at Gasconade, Missouri.

Yeah Tucumcari only did 40 knots up on foils.

You need a very well-balanced boat, or a ton of logic to keep it from going out of control...

As you did in this video, I've had problems accidentally opening deck hatches when picking up/setting down NPCs. My way of solving that has been to put a button on the deck that has to be activated to unlock the hatches, that way they don't open when you don't want them open, I sank a boat that way recently!
@ProfNCognito2 жыл бұрын
Yeah gotta do something about that door.
@Bendigo12 жыл бұрын
Just add a 2 stage button at the door, that way you dont lock yourself out... use an and block so the door will only open if both buttons are pressed at the door. Or add a keypad to make an entry code.

Thats not a bad idea.

For my hydrofoil I just used a liquid meter that's clamped from -1 to 1 and just attached that to the control surfaces.
@Forcemaster20002 жыл бұрын
You could use a different control method for delicate maneuvering using electric motors. The hydrofoil works fantastic for speedy trips though! I'd love to see a separate build video on it if you ever have the time.

I think once I hook up the fluid jet fins it should get better. If not gonna definitely need a separate slow propulsion.
@Bendigo12 жыл бұрын
@@ProfNCognito A gear reduction from the engine to the jets would be good for slow speeds. You could use something like 3:1 reduction and run the engine at like 6 rps and still have quite a bit of power for turning with the jets. Maybe even a clutch setup to reduce the rpm without needing to mess with extra gears?
@cf4532 жыл бұрын
I use x^3+y^3 for WS and AD for my clutch, with the seat set at 30%. You’re right about a lower gear, even 1:1 is a bit hot for careful maneuvering.
@cf4532 жыл бұрын
Fluid nozzles max out at 6.0 L/s. Cats still work, you probably need 8 for each of those engines. I think you need smaller foils so it takes more speed to get out of the water. I use fluid meters instead of altimeters so that i don’t get dunked by high waves.
@xxbongobazookaxx7170 Жыл бұрын
since when did cats not reduce smoke and what do they do now? I usually use cats and nozzles so I never noticed

Several updates back. They made it so you could sorta recycle exhaust as air. Total jank. I just use a modular exhaust with a modular fuel port and it deletes the exhaust. Problem solved.

A Hydrofoil was such a cool choice for this design!
@Bendigo12 жыл бұрын
What about a version without hydrofoils but with fluid jets for shallow water rescue? With the fluid jets, I think you could reach the same speed maybe even higher speeds, without foils because it would be planing once you get up some speed. The hydrofoil is definitely good for efficiency and range.
@ProfNCognito2 жыл бұрын
That could work but the foils get me over the waves.

I see dead people. Oh, wait, they're merely incapacitated. Phew! Speedy boat. Hmm. How about Speedy Boatzales for a name? If you feel up to it, I'd love a tutorial how you set up the hydrofoil. (c: I wish these flashing lights they hold when in the water were on life jackets so they kept flashing even when someone is unconscious (or dead even). Of course, not all will have (time to put on) a life jacket, as in IRL. Keep the series going, please -- I saw nothing at the end... (c;

Nice hydrofoil! Something that might help with roll stability is to have a wider plane in the front and maybe the back too that angles up at each end where you put your control surfaces. Having the control surfaces angled against each other should (theoretically, this is Stormworks we're talking about) create a dihedral wing angle which should want to stay upright on its own. Like this: i.ytimg.com/vi/0GW0FT1jb3A/maxresdefault.jpg You could also do some complex stuff with the control surfaces to lean one direction or the other to help you turn at high speed but that's likely to be very fiddly and turning like that will mess with the natural tendency to stay upright. For low speed you will prolly need rudders though.
@ProfNCognito2 жыл бұрын
I was wanting to do something like this but stormworks so I was being safe. It would totally look sweet though.
