Toriyama-san was the creator of Dragon Ball and did design work for the Dragon Quest series. The little guys at 19:15 are from Mason's Flash game Fishbowl. This is a personal favourite of mine, so I have no idea how this slipped my mind!

I imagine that Pongorma just has a collection of different helmets that he wears on different occasions or something, like wearing a different hat everyday, and that would explain why his helmet keeps changing lol

Great video! Its nice to have all the concept art shown off in one place plus with given context! the sketch seen here 13:57 is kind of a tribute to Akira Toriyama as he passed sometime before the stream, this was just a lil Somsnosa drawn in his style. the sketch seen here 19:15 are drawings of the small people seen in masons older game Fish Bowl.

Thanks, as always. Ah, that's a touching tribute. Likely has little bearing on any upcoming projects then. I knew I recognised those guys from somewhere! I skimmed through all Mason's Flash games recently but must've missed 'em. Super interesting that even more old characters are returning - is this at least one thing from each old Flash game now?

So, a few thoughts and ideas about Mason's concept art: 1:22 The buff Tyro seems to be in the 'You know I had to do it to em' meme pose. Not sure if that's intentional but it is funny to see. Also 1:22 the whole thing with the Slug, while the Slug seems to be important to Hylics 3 as seen with the render of the protagonist, it kind of leans into the topic I've heard people mention a lot with Hylics, where people have compared the somewhat incomprehensible enemy and NPC designs to either Cambrian/Precambrian lifeforms, or to living Invertebrates like what you'd find in the deep sea, like some forms of deep sea Sea Cucumber or the hilariously named Yoda Acorn Worm. A lot of the designs at 24:19 remind me of deep sea Invertebrates. The house you highlight at 5:00 seems to be the left most model at 6:17, with the 'eye' window. Back to 1:22, the Tyro in the bottom corner with the local telekinesis has a similar 'border' around it to the group of Tyros in 8:26. It does make me wonder if there's actually some kind of psychic powers throughout Hylics, given the origin of the word 'hylic' is from the same place as the word 'psychic'. Telekinesis and psychic powers doesn't seem too far fetched as that would explain the whole Gibby making people talk gibberish thing in Hylics 1. The Slug creature at 8:12 has a slim chance of being an actual party member. Just a guess but there is a sort of trope in RPGs for 'animal sidekicks' to be playable, like Red XIII in Final Fantasy VII or Koromaru in Persona 3. The Pongorma with the four upwards prongs on his helmet at 10:36 seems to be the same one in the image at 11:24, with the main difference in the helmet being the 'Fish tail' at the back. The Somsnoa at 13:59 IIRC Mason said he drew in the style of Akira Toriyama, although I could be misremembering that from the livestream. With the Somsnosa designs at 14:53 there's a helmet on the left page just underneath the part you said looked blurred out. It looks a lot like the helmet from the 'Cavewoman' Somsnosa. On the other page it mentions Somsnosa's bone earrings. Notably this is the only sketch of Somsnosa not to be wearing a helmet at all, and on the page at 18:06 it mentions a 'morbid accessory', so it seems like part of Somsnosa's character design seems to be wearing something made out of bones of some kind, and Mason is considering the idea of not using a helmet for this every single time. Speaking of the page at 18:06, take note of the Ambulant Skull redesign. It's got four horns, four teeth, and what I believe is a sagittal crest. The reason I bring this up is because the skull Somsnosa is seen wearing in most of these drawings actually has the same four horns, four teeth and sagittal crest. We known Somsnosa's backstory involves the Ambulant Skulls, so it's entirely possible this is intentional. The little guys at 19:04 actually look somewhere between Hylics 1 Gibby and Wayne, given the hair or headdress or whatever Gibby had in that game, and the head shape being more akin to a less crescent shaped Wayne head. Given this, I wouldn't be surprised if they were actually of significant importance in the story of Hylics 3. With the Clawdia concept art at 19:38, there's yet again something else that seems to be blurred out, just below the gremlin that seems to be sticking it's tongue out. Given the shape of what we can see under the blur, which looks a lot like the writing all over the page, and the fact that Clawdia is a new character, I wouldn't be surprised if it's one of Mason's notes about the character that may involve details of the story of some kind.
