What Wirtual did with the whole hotkey drama is basically Wilt Chamberlain dunking on free throws and the NBA enforcing the rule change that you can't pass the freethrow line. He didn't cheat, he did something that was allowed even if it to most people was far beyond their capabilities or imagination. Your comparison to running shoes is a really good one tbh and there are parallels to IRL F1 racing. One notable one is active suspenions where your suspension can be programmed to a specific track to adjust your car for optimal ride height at each corner. This was alloed initially, but eventually banned in the 90s. Did active suspension give an advantage to teams that used it? By the end, yeah. Did anyone say they were cheating? No. It was an advantage, but it was not banned so it wasn't cheating. One can definitely understand why that might be banned, just as in your custom action keys, but it was not cheating at the time of its use.

There are also parallels to actual running because Nike just made a shoe that’s so good it was banned from running competitions. In my opinion everyone should’ve just gotten the shoes and the running committee could’ve standardized them but whatever the running committee makes stupid decisions every day. Also if you want to think about it this way. Steroids weren’t banned in Major League Baseball until they were. So by the same logic, it wasn’t cheating until the rule was written down. Many people argue that players that used steroids shouldn’t be banned from the hall of fame since it wasn’t a rule when they did it. Even if it was a really bad image for the league.

F1 is also known to keep most "innovations" legal for the remainder of the season, so if you do something that is bending the rules, but not crossing it, you can keep it for a season usually and the rules will be adjusted after the season ends.

On the right or left turn conversation, when talking about drifting, if you drift the the right, your ass swings out left but your nose stays right, and you don't drive with your ass, you drive where your nose is pointing. So a drift is not dependent on which direction your steer, but the direction you intend the car to go. Steering to the left on a right drift is called a counter steer, as you steer the opposite way

@@kit7099 I don't agree it's not unfair if steering at particular percentage is optimal since you can't action key it normally and you can't do it that reliably with controller. It might be a very minor thing, but it's a matter of principle not to mess with inputs since it would open a can of worms that could potentially ruin the game completely. Since he announced it publicly shows he wasn't trying to be dishonest, but still he made a poor judgement call on that one. I think Nadeo made a correct call in this situation.

saw a few people talk about action keys being in the game already, so I wanted to paste my explanation of nadeo's decision here for others to see: they're the same action keys for every keyboard player, no one else had an exactly 34% steering action key and not everyone has the hardware to set one up. the advantage of keyboard is that action keys are consistent and the execution barrier to performing a specific steering value is very low, but you sacrifice the accuracy of smooth steering (gamepad) to get that consistency. by allowing custom action keys, nadeo would effectively be allowing a player driven pay-to-win meta amongst keyboard players at the top level of play, and necessitating the use of external third-party tools to achieve top level times. the alternative to banning custom keys would be to implement a single cutom action key into the game itself, but this would still create a barrier of entry where you could not possibly drive a perfect time on a track without trips to the setting screen for a trial and error system of finding the right action key setting for the right turn. this would be an unhealthy change to the competitive environment of the game, as it disincentives grinding for mechanical perfection at the top level of an exclusively mechanically driven game, instead incentivising a TAS-like grind for finding the perfect number for your settings.

@@SuperBeantank If you mean stopping a forward flip, it's braking in the air, called an airbrake. Just tap the brakes if you want to drop off a platform and land perfectly flat. (I think you can't do it with wet wheels or some other weird quirks). If you mean spinning left to right, I think steering the opposite way stops or slows your rotation.

I had not even downloaded the game yet when watching the stream, and was very confused about the whole action key stuff. Those people talking about it fail to mention that it just changes the steering range. It's not a macro of perfect inputs. Just a way to simulate the steering range of analog devices. The only thing Wirtual did was create an action key to maintain a specific range. It was in public and there were no rules in place. If that's not slander, then I don't know what is anymore.

Wirtual the car is in a right turn rotation but you’re pressing the left button, this is called counter steering in a real life scenario when drifting a car they first flick the car in a direction and then spin the wheel immediately in the other direction making there leading wheel perpendicular to the turn the whole time while controlling throttle to Maintain angle as well as steering inputs

To be fair, this is my first campaign I've ever played fully (2 others first like 3-4 tracks), all the experience I have is from watching you and scrapie, and I got gold on everything except the 4 i got author on, without using action keys at all. I understand having action keys to match control turning maneuverability, but I think that should be up to Nadeo to allow a setting that allows for it. Either it should be available to everyone or no one. If they choose to have the action keys do a set %, then oh well, that's what everyone will live with. Idk, I also don't play enough to really care, just felt like showin my point/side.
