A forum known as Beast's Lair should still have a combined patch that incorporates the original english translation for use in the PC release of Realta Nua, along with translations of any new scenes - if you are curious about the newer version. It adds some interesting tidbits here and there; along with a more satisifying epilogue to the Fate route - but overall, if you enjoyed the original then you have already seen the best it has to offer. :)

Growing up, I think I had a lot of Shirou's issues. I do get where he's coming from. If everyone acted in service to others, the world would be a kinder place. If all life is precious, surely one life given to save another is a noble thing. The more that you can save with that one sacrifice, the better. What is my one life weighed against the lives of two others? There was a point where I would have been very willing to take a bullet for someone else. Now, as I enter my 28th year, I'm not so sure. In 12 years, I've come to realize that my one life isn't isolated. What happens to me affects those around me who care, and that there are people who would grieve that I'd never expect. Sacrificing my potential for brining pain or joy to those around me to save someone else's potential to do the same...is that even something I can weigh? Is it something I can measure? In a way, Rin is also right. Living purely for others isn't natural. It's twisted. But I can't decide if either of them are wrong. Maybe one day I'll have my answer.
@pranavstormer173 жыл бұрын
That’s pretty fascinating
@lunais14332 жыл бұрын
What Rin means is not that living for others is twisted; rather, not living for yourself is twisted. What's the difference? The difference is that it is okay to live for others, but you should also think of yourself. Simply put: "You can't save anyone if you're dead." It is okay to save others, but part of the reason for wanting to save them has to come from within yourself. It doesn't have to be some kind of ulterior motive; it could be something as simple as personal satisfaction, achievement, happiness, or joy. But if your entire reason for saving people is because of the ideal of saving everyone or simply because there are people who need saving, then when you realize how many you cannot save, you'll just end up an empty shell. In other words, save others while also saving yourself, so that you can continue saving others.

Now that you mention it, HF route takes a lot of stereotypes regarding heroes, villains, and female leads, and turns them on their heads. The love-interest is a legit danger to the world, the hero gives up everything he's ever known to protect said danger, and the only way the villain opposes him is that he wants to keep the pieces as they are set (i.e., Angra Manyu gets freed through Sakura, and wrecks shit).

@@miguelmonteiro3963 Many female characters, especially in fiction but also in movies, are basically male characters put in a female body. You'll have this super petite girl fighting off twenty jacked-up security guards while having this unfazed, stoic face and a ruthless mindset. No girls in real life are like that. Yes, beating up twenty dudes is unrealistic regardless of gender, but the smaller body of the girl exacerbates how ridiculous it is. More importantly though is how real girls, whether today, 1000 years ago or 2000, are almost never this stoic, ruthless, emotionless character. I think what I like best about Heaven's Feel is that Shirou realizes the importance of his own life. In Fate, he continually puts himself in harm's way to live out his ideal. In UBW, while he is confronted with how twisted his worldview is, he chooses to pursue his ideal because of the beauty he sees in it, regardless of the consequences to himself. However, in Heaven's Feel, Shirou realizes that by sacrificing himself, he is hurting everyone around him. By choosing to protect Sakura, the person he loves, who gave everyday life meaning, over his ideals, he begins to pursue his own selfish happiness. As a result, he realizes that if he dies, he will be depriving Sakura of the man she loves, the person who inspired her to keep going instead of giving up, one few people she has felt a sense of safety with. His death will deprive Taiga of her little brother. In the end, as he stands before the Grail, about to sacrifice his life, he hesitates. Shirou recovers that fear of death that he was so disconnected from in the two other routes. In my opinion, Shirou realizing the intrinsic value in his own life, rather than the value of living a certain lifestyle, is what makes Heaven's Feel so excellent. P.S. Loved the two other routes as well :)
@lunais14332 жыл бұрын
That, and how Shirou realizes that the ideal of saving people does not necessarily require saving everyone. If one can save just one person, if one can be a hero to just one person, then one's life can have just as much meaning as someone who has saved everyone.

Curiously, he adopts a worldview akin to Shiki Tohno. Shiki is terrified of dying because he wants to enjoy what little time he has left in the world. In Arcueid's route, Shiki falls for Arcueid, and he vows to be there for her, even if the world turns against the two.

It's not a question about whether you are right or wrong. It's a matter about doing what you believe in the most. This really fits Emiya well. When you think about it, Emiya pretty much lost everything. His family, his childhood friends, his neighbours. He was a no one. Saved by Kiritsugi. Living slowly like a human after realising that everything in your childhood is gone. Falling in love with your girlfriend. The core of HF is basically in simple terms, Are you willing to kill the person you love, the person that made you feel happy again for the sake of the greater good, for the sake of 'living'? Or are you willing to let the world die for a single person? Are you willing to let the same tragedy happen again to others? Or are you willing to fall in love? It's the same thing Kiritsugi had suffered in Fate/Zero. Are you willing to be the thing that you hated the most? For someone you love?

Shirou gave up everything not just to defend Sakura from others but to save her from herself; her guilt and the burdens she accepted due to her position and her family. The difference between risking one stranger and risking the world entire is simply a matter of degree. The choice is the same.

Heaven's Feel is my favorite. It features the most servants in relevance, has all the masters (except kuzuki rip) being relevant to the plot and it explores the thematic of morals and good and evil the most which is IMO the main theme of the novel. UBW would be a strong contender if it wasn't for the fact I think Shirou vs Archer was so good the rest of the route felt pointless to me. And I feel Fate could be possibly my favorite route if Nasu did a (very heavy) rewrite of it.
@helios26642 жыл бұрын
UBW all the way for me, just something about Shirou's core character being explored in depth, and the personification of his inner conflict as Shirou vs. Archer. Of course Heaven's Feel is a masterpiece, and if I'm being real (probably) the best objective route, I just like UBW a little more. Fate route... Honestly it get's bashed a little too much imo. Sure it's not nearly as interesting as the 2 G.O.A.T routes, if I'm being honest it's a bit of a slog to get through the first 3/4 of it. However it sharply picks up towards the end, and the ending still managed to hit me in the feels just as hard as the end of the other 2 routes. In my opinion it suffers from the being the first route, as it's tasked establishing characters, plot, setting, world building etc, it has to lay the foundation for the rest of the VN. So not as much room for the more interesting and dynamic plots like that of UBW, HF. In Tsukihime, Arcuied's route has a similar problem, it's quite boring, compared to everything else the VN has to offer, but should still be read first as it establishes all the important things the reader should know before heading into the later routes.

Though each is used in every route, a different one is used in each of the routes' pivotal moments where Shirou resolves his inner conflict and the story enters the end-game. This Illusion beneath the church in Fate, where he's forced to confront the children that weren't saved. Emiya in Unlimited Blade Works where he's forced to confront his likely future if he continues on his current path. Ever Present Feeling in Heaven's Feel, in the ditch while considering whether to remove the Shroud of Martin.

My favorite is Heaven's Feel, perhaps because it's just so dramatic. The internal fight in Shirou when he realizes his ideals are impossible and he can't protect everything is heart shattering. When he realizes he can't sacrifice someone he cares so much about to protect people he's never met he realizes the true meaning of Kiritsugu's words. Shirou is very twisted character and you can even call him the embodiment of every hypocrisies of any superheroes. he is very different to a normal human being. Many normal humans also have this very optimistic dream. Normal humans have this dream but they have their own sense of justice. But shirou is very different. he has a ideal but he didn' have any sense of good or evil or any form of justice. he only try to save others for satisfying his need of pleasure or the feeling of alive. he didn' even know the true reason of his dream. He also said this in Unlimited Blade Works route. [I swore so as a child. To fulfill the dream of the man I admired most. …But to be honest, I'm still wondering… If my idea is the right one. Where my idea comes from. What I can do even despite me being just an amateur. How to make the dream of making everybody happy, which Kiritsugu always talked about, come true.] his every ideal is copied. he copied everything from Kiritsugu. Even his morality is also copied from his father. he mindlessly follow it and trying to save others without thinking because he just want to feel that smile again which is present in Kiritsugu's face. he even also want a enemy or some 'true evil' to defeat as a superhero to feel that feeling of pleasure. kirei also point out which shirou wanted to prove wrong. [Rejoice, boy. Your wish will finally come true." The priest says, as if declaring an oracle. Those words are... Aren't those the true feelings I haven't yet realized "What are you saying all of a sudden?" "You should know. Your wish will not come true unless there is a clear evil. Even if it is not something you approve of, a superhero requires a villain to defeat." "!" I feel like everything has turned black. The priest said it. The greatest wish and the ugliest wish I have are the same. …Yes, the desire to protect something… …Is, at the same time, none other than the wish for something to violate it " Y-You" But there's no way I'd wish for something like that. I don't remember a moment when I've wished for that. Such an insecure wish… …Just means the target ideals are inconsistent. But the priest says as if to pierce my heart, "Good thing you have an enemy now." "No, you do not have to gloss over it. Your worries are normal for a human being." The priest smiles. "!" I shake off the priest's words and walk to the door. ] He later also said that he think he did actually want a enemy in fate route. that's why he actually want to change saber as a more "human" for her sake but never understand his own hypocrisy. that is the reason why fate route is route which explains Shirou ideals very well. Shirou forces his copied morality and fake love of human towards everyone without understanding their problems. he has very limited emotion and he can't understand the emotion of others. But he also never understand that he also has his own "true self" of his own but he never understand his true self in fate route. We also understand that his love toward human is not fake but it is the characteristics of his true self. it is also said by Kirei in heaven's feel route [I see. So that means you will not follow Kiritsugu's path." He talks as if he's disinterested. The priest regards me with a bored expression, as if disappointed. "Father's path…?" "That's right. Your father loved humans. Higher, wider, farther. He loved humans as they go over their limits without end. That is why he turned himself into the definite evil. That man would have killed Matou Sakura. He threw away his human emotions for the sake of justice." "…Is that any different from you? Casting away one person's happiness for the sake of justice, for many people's happiness." "No. What you people call happiness did not bring me joy." "Huh…?" That's not a reply. No, more than that… He's not even looking at me. "Right, we were different. He threw away what he had, but I had nothing to throw away. The result was the same, but the process was completely different. His existence was too unpleasant. His agony was truly unpleasant. If he went to such lengths to cast it away, he should never have had it in the first place. But still he agonized over his decision, trying to pick it back up after he threw it away. As if saying that is the correct way for humans to live." "The difference was crucial. Yes. If I cannot obtain anything, why was I born into this world?" The priest' words are not directed at anyone. ...But they contain anger. They contain emotion, which i thought this man didn't have. "…Hah. Come to think of it, there is no way you can succeed Kiritsugu. He did what was necessary by throwing things away, but you insist on having it both ways. We are similar, you and I. You died once and broke down when you were resurrected. It is posteriori, but you are like me, a defect from birth." "What…? What part of me is broken?" "You just do not realize it. You have no concept of self. So I did not think you would concern yourself with a single person. No, rather You are not concerned about many, but concerned about all as if they were only one."] In ubw he started to saw the hypocrisy of his own ideals with help of Archer and Rin and his experiences in ubw route. he understand that his ideal is always false. he has not any sense of justice and even his self. he also understand the inconsistencies of ideal of not just his own but also the ideals of others heroes. others heroes only force their ideals on the basis of their own ideals. He understand that he can't save everyone by forcing his ideal on someone. his way of saving only destroy anyone for others and only lead despair. But this is the route where he understands the true meaning of his ideal and his true self. he actually loved humans but very differently to his father. he loved the human emotions, love, compassion, shared human nature and values. He thinks that good and bad are situational. There are right and wrongs and those who didn't fear to this always lead a destruction. he want to become superhero to spread this shared nature and love of human toward each other into everywhere to form a ideal "human society" where everyone understand other's feelings and also think about the gain and loss of others as well as themselves without any prejudice and also create justice in this world. Shirou want to create a world filled with 'Swords'. swords represent Shirou's selflessness and his live for others. he want to create a ordered world where people also punishes those are bad or wrong in that situation. To destroy discimination, he want to first create a selfless world by eradicating prejudice and spreading the human nature. But it is still impossible to satisfy everyone. it still lead nowhere but it is able to create a better world. Because he knows that he is existed in this world because of others. His power is also the collective powers of everyone. He knows that with the help of everyone, he can create this utopia. that's why he said [“I have created a thousand blades . Unaware of loss Nor aware of gain”] [“This is Emiya Shirou's world. A Reality Marble. It is the greatest forbidden magic that embodies the caster's internal world. This is heroic spirit Emiya's Noble Phantasm and the only weapon I possess. Everything is here, and nothing is here. That is why this is called Unlimited Blade Works. This is the only definite answer obtained by the one who lived as a sword all his life.”] It is the true nature of Shirou.

"I was not wrong." Although Emiya Shirou will endlessly selfishly pursue selflessness, at the end of his eternal path, he will know that even for all the wrongs he has committed, the amount of hypocrisy he has done, the hells he has left behind, his path of selfish selflessness to be a Savior, a Hero of Justice, to save everyone was truly, utterly, breathtakingly, blindingly, and rawly beautiful. Emiya Shirou was never truly a hero, even for all his heroic deeds, he was an ordinary man with an inhuman determination. He never once retreated, even if he never truly won a "victory." That ordinary man tried again and again, even if each time in his path to reach extraordinary heights, he failed. The only thing he won at the end of his road, was the knowledge that he never betrayed his ideals, even if they betrayed him again and again. At the end of his life he saw on a hill of hell, skewered by an innumerate amount of swords, his Reality Marble, Unlimited Blade Works. And so wishing to save more people one last time, he summoned what was left of his life, to chant his aria, that sad poem of his existence, "I am the bone of my sword..."

In the Fate route Shirou sees in Saber the personification of his ideals. She is the living embodiment of his desire to be a hero and he sets out to become her following the events of Fate. I see Fate as the really good prologue to an amazing story, either one of reaffirmation of the desired path as the most important (UBW) or in abandoning that path for something more important. (HF). He merely wanted to be like Kiritsugu because he wanted to experience the same feeling Kiritsugu did when he saved SHirou (the feeling of being able to rescue someone). If anything the one who gets closer to understanding the true darkness Kiritsugu faced is Heaven Feel's Shirou, and we all know what he ended up choosing.

@DapimpBDSD3 жыл бұрын
@@DugFin2 I get what you're trying to say but no, he wanted to be a hero of justice but gives up on that dream in order to protect and save Sakura. Normally he wouldn't have allowed Sakura/anyone to commit all the murders that Sakura did (Sakura even states that Shirou is betraying himself for her sake and hates herself for doing that to shirou). That's why this moment was crucial in the Heavens Feel story, Shirou decides that he will protect Sakura and deal with all the bad things she has done/will do, even at the cost of giving up his ideals. This point in the story (scene shown in the video) is when his path and Archers path diverge, shirou will never become Archer in the Heavens Feel storyline and as Archer said " if you choose this path, there will be no future for Shirou Emiya". Shirou didn't want to save the world, that was Kiritsugu, Shirou wanted to be a Hero that saved people and to keep people from seeing the horrors that he saw during the 4th grail war. They are similar goals but Kiritsugu chose to use "any means necessary " methods, whereas Shirou would rather sacrifice himself in order to get the best results.
@BrokenWings861311 жыл бұрын
In both of those choices, either of affirmation or abandonment, the path being chosen or rejected needs to be described, which is the point of the Fate story arc. Basically Shiou says: To be Saber, or not to be her, that is the question. ^.^ I find it very ironic, well maybe intentional that Saber mirrors Shiou's choices in UBW and HF. Where Shirou chooses his ideal, so does Saber. When he turns to darkness, so does Saber. Huh, I need to think on that some more.

There are more than two choices. Life is not binary for example you can: 1)Kill everyone 2)Save Everyone 3)Runaway and let the situation sort itself out. That aside, l don't really get killing Sakura on day 9 since she didn't do anything wrong and she even saved Shirou twice so he should at least try to save her in return but mind of steel Shirou didn't even try to help. Also, killing someone because something bad might happen in the future is flimsy because the future can always change and is too uncertain. But if we're gonna kill people for what they might do in the future then everybody is on the chopping block starting with mos Shirou especially if he becomes a counter guardian. The worst part about mos Shirou is that he doesn’t care about people at all. He just treats them like objects in need of saving one moment and will kill them if the situation calls for it at another moment. Just like Kiritsugu Mos Shirou is loyal only to his ideology alone but that's to be expected from a nutcase who never got therapy for his trauma. In fate extra, Shirou becomes an unaccountable law breaking vigilante/mercenary/terrorist who kills innocence along with the guilty for his own self-gratification of “becoming a hero” then justifies their deaths as meaningful sacrifices as if those people ever asked to be sacrificed and he doesn’t do anything to help those caught in the crossfire and left injured due to his escapades just like Kiritsugu. Sometimes, I think the reason Archer emiya wanted to stop being a counter guardian was that he realized that he would just keep killing and killing even the people he once saved would die at his hands eventually and no true change was actually occurring. Merely increasing body count doesn’t solve problems all the time since we also need people like doctors who can heal and build things instead of living a trail of destruction. On the other hand, heavens feel Shirou was too damn passive and didn’t look for a way to save Sakura until she went full berserk mode. However, I do think the real test begins when we have to choose to kill Sakura after she goes berserk but being passive like Hf Shirou instead of actively looking for a cure is not a good thing. Though I do think that for all his talk about becoming a hero Shirou is too passive and rarely does heroic things until the situation really calls for it. Anyway, I may agree with killing Sakura after the first real berserk stage, but l don't support it one bit since l view Sakura as innocent either way since she has been abused and is pretty much possessed thus not acting of her own accord so separating her from Angry Matthew would be the real solution. Then l would punish the people who made her suffer so they wouldn't do to others what they did to Sakura especially Zouken because of not dealt with he'll just find someone else and restart the cycle. Lastly, l think Sakura is a symptom of the real issue, which is the holy grail war, Tokiomi not giving her to a good family and madmen like Zouken and Shinji abusing her for who knows how long. If it weren't for these things Sakura would not be in this situation. Also, the same thing about being symptoms of deeper issues can apply to counter guardians and people like Kiritsugu otherwise situations like this will keep on repeating themselves endlessly. So even if Shirou kills Sakura he still needs to punish the people who wronged her in the first place then make sure a situation like this and the holy grail wars don't happen again. Again, sacrificing the few for the many just prolongs the inevitable if the real problems aren't dealt with. Plus, if not careful it creates more problems like the death of innocents, destruction of property and livelihoods, revenge-seeking from those who lost their loved ones, or the cops trying to arrest the one who sacrificed others lives. Also, it's ironic that those who preach about the needs of the many want to go about enforcing what they believe to be the needs of the many when it's actually their own personal individual beliefs of what they think the majority wants.

@gwonbusH It's my guess that most people watch the anime first, and it's obviously just a watered-down Fate route (with bits from UBW and a teeny bit from HF). Therefore they don't get the proper full impression nor impact of Fate. I in particular watched the anime AFTER reading the Fate & UBW routes and I didn't find anything about Fate that puts it noticeably below the other 2 routes, if below at all. (personally I think my least favorite is HF but it's so close it's within margin of error)
