You could just go for grand battleplan. The defence and 5 more entrenchment it gives is arguably more important than the 5% recruitable pop.

I just did it while being democratic and I could easily hold. The strategy is mainly to go Grand Battle Plan and to make more, but smaller divisions (for example, I made 15 widths with artillery).

I do think you can pull it off if done right. The brown ideology is still the best because of 7% recruitable pop, and you can rush the civil war by doing anti communist raids (dips your stab below 50%). I think Grand Battleplan is also better because of entrenchment, and the key is probably building plenty of aa (1 support company, + 2 battalions) to counter CAS. If you hold the river line their tanks will become much less powerful due to the massive river penalty. Level 1 fort is enough because the soviets will bomb the level 3 regardless, and level 1 gives you 20% def with eng companies. And personally, I wouldn't build any civs, you run out of building slots + early equipment is more important. If i can figure out how to record my gameplay, I'll attempt it to prove it is possible, and how bad the soviet ai sucks. Cheers!

You can do screenshots. The only problem with your plan is production. Even if you only build mils from the start you will only have 6 civs of which 2 are gonna get locked on civilian prod even at total mob and you will also need to trade for steel. Idk give it a try and join the discord server to share your run.
