What's wild is that Rennick realistically exists, especially on rigs. My late grandfather worked on an oil rig in the north sea and he'd always tell me stories about people like Rennick. When the Piper Alpha exploded, a lot of company men refused to cosign on the deaths because it "cost too much".

Reminds me of deepwater horizon, the corporate fatcats just ignore all the safety officers warnings and drill which causes so many deaths.
@Literally_a_Moth6 ай бұрын
I think this game is not just a representation of the real world but a metaphor it. Rennick is likely only trying to make a living just as everyone else, though at the expense of others; his job is to increase profits and that mindset might be what made him so bitter. The game itself is a metaphor for capitalism. The oil company exploiting its workers and environment leads to the collapse of the rig itself. The monster will destroy the rig as well as humanity if it isn’t destroyed. That’s why Caz killing the monster was a perfect ending. The lesson of the story is so obvious and clues are mentioned so many times I’m surprised no one has said anything. There’s so much more to the story but that would take an entire essay, so well done.

Finlay telling him to "be brave" was so beautiful as he finally takes a stance to stand his ground and face reality even when it will cost him everything. GOD, what an amazing game!

IGP was wondering why some of the men turned into mobile threats, while others remained stuck to the walls as meat moss. Me, I have to suspect that anger, itself, was a factor: Rennick lived, breathed, and crapped anger in his every line, and both Trots and Addair seem to have been really angry about politics, albeit from different sides of the spectrum. Gibbo got pretty touchy about Trots's activism at breakfast too, more so than their conversation really seemed to warrant. The main exception seems to be Muir, but the way Innes chewed him out for being careless that morning might've ticked him off a lot more than he allowed to show at the time.

Ignoring the fact it’s an incredible story, for someone like me, from the west of Scotland, finally hearing a game in my language, my accent, hearing words that only people from my home will know, it’s the first time a game has been truly immersive. I done an offshore safety course many years ago with a view to working on the rigs. This game reminds me so much of that (even though we never got onto the rigs, there were several emergency scenarios set up in the place we trained in and I saw a few similar here) I think, when you’re American or even English, you hear your accent and dialect so often you don’t think about it as much but playing a game, no matter how good, and hearing the sane American accents just tears you out of the immersion the developers are trying to create so this, for me, in my accent, with my dialect and with words in our language that are purely ours, and in an industry that has been a bedrock of our society for so long… It’s just so amazing, so breathtaking

I'm honestly not sure they know what they're doing. At least when it comes to some of them. Muir is the one who made me think this. He doesn't seem to realize what he is or what he's doing to the other rig workers, wondering why they aren't helping him and instead are running away from him, and telling them not to leave him. I also noticed how all the bodies on the deck with him were placed in a sitting position upright against some surface, as if he put them there like that after killing them. Perhaps showing some sort of care, but he's unaware when it comes to what actually hurt them. Him. I think it might be a little different for each person, and I think it depends on their mentality when infected. Addair and Rennick both seemed a lot more aware than others (With the exception of Gibbo), and they purposefully go after Caz and call him by name. They're the ones who hated Caz the most right before the events, so after becoming whatever it is they are they hold that hatred for him and set out to kill him, knowingly. They retain some memories and personality (though maybe that changes over time, seeing as we only saw what happens shortly after infection). But some don't act as if they understand at all what they're doing. Like Muir and maybe Trots.

It sounds like a movie where the actors were speaking lines AND doing the blocking, not just in a recording booth, which is AWESOME! The PS4 Spiderman games did the same, where the VA's recorded once normally and once strained to account for the web slinging. tldr: I'm in agreement! I finally played it the whole way through in one sitting today and it's now in my top five favorite games of all time. I like horror without a ton of jump scares because I feel like it challenges the creators to find other ways to make something scary and I never really felt that quick-release shock sort of fear with Still Wakes the Deep, it was just that lingering sense of dread that courses through you for every second of the experience, kind of like watching Coraline for the first time again. I love the concept that the main character is running away from something back home so now all you can do to protect yourself from the monster is run and hide. It was a beautiful and terrifying game and it gave me a completely new standard for horror. I'm going to finish this video at some point, but thank you for being so adamant about playing it personally. This truly is a game that's best experienced alone and uninterrupted.

I feel the saddest part is the fact that suze and everyone else probably won't ever know about what actually happened on the rig and it might just be considered a accidental explosion

Of everything, that would be the best outcome. Considering the fact that infection is spread through the contact with that oil, if it hasn't all burned out, then the whole world is in danger, so it better stay the local incident

Honestly the deaths for the characters like Roy and Brodie felt absolutely heartbreaking but the ending part with Caz dying and the note Suze wrote is literally the strongest emotional gut punch after seeing everyone else die in sad and horrific ways in my opinion.

IGP says it's a horror game set on an oil rig in the middle of the open ocean. I hear "oil rig" and "open ocean" and already feel my pulse start to race and my stomach get weak. I'd have the creeping horrors standing on an ocean oil platform on a calm, sunny day.

That has to be hands down one of the best l, if not the best) voice acting on any game ever. it’s so genuine. Everything anything said by anyone had the best tones, the best emoticons, and it was just perfectly executed. When Brodi dries, that score in the background is perfect. All of the dead people who weren't turned probably just died from trauma related to the rigs gradual destruction, like how Finley died at the end from being crushed by that steel truss.

Yellow is likey used as the color of "Go here" and "You can open this" due to the same reason that road signs and road paint is commonly yellow, its bright and noticeable. Plus with yellow being used on road signs and road paint most people are already trained to look at yellow as a form of instruction.
@SSD_Penumbra6 ай бұрын
It works here because Yellow is also used on rigs to indicate safety guidelines, so shit like ladders and stuff would realistically be painted yellow.
@MartinFinnerup6 ай бұрын
It's less about the specific color, and more about contrast. Yellow is usually a pretty good contrast to most environments, but highly saturated colors in general work.
@the_furry_inside_your_walls6396 ай бұрын
It's an oil rig. They use any sort of high-contrasting paint on oil rigs for safety guidelines and indications of danger. The game goes an extra mile with it, though you can turn the extra yellow paint that was solely put in to guide players off in the settings. The rest of the yellow paint that makes sense for the game's setting remains.

"Do oil rigs have trouble with hurricanes?" As far as I know much less that youd expect. Theyre anchored to the sea floor so no floating off or flipping over and theyre floating so no snapping of any stilts. The oil pipe might snap and cause a huge oil spill but they have prevention measures for that and the whole thing is metal so not much structural damage usually. Though of course, its never without dangers

there's a few tragedies of pretty major losses due to rigs getting caught in hurricanes/storms [100+ lives lost in the case of the Alexander Keilland in the 1980s]. Piper Alpha oil platform, north-east of Aberdeen, Scotland. It exploded 6th of July in 1988, and killed 167, including two from the rescue members. The crew on board the platform was 226, and only 61 workers survived and escaped. It is the deadliest Oil platform disaster ever. I assume this game was inspired by this specific tragedy, with it being set in the North Sea off the coast of Scotland.

That moment, at 3:11:15, is a truly horrifying moment if you think about it. The stuff is spreading through the rig, sure, but it looks like it might be containable, reversible even. Fighting to keep the rig afloat and the last few survivors alive. And then… that godd*mn window. Seeing that, your heart just shatters. Whatever this stuff is, it’s not only breaking the rig and the people around it, but the very fabric of reality itself. It’s twisting and corrupting everything it touches, even the very air you breathe. It was at this moment, this ‘blink-and-you-miss-it’ moment, one that if you were in any bigger of a rush you wouldn’t have noticed, that you realize that no one is getting off this rig alive.
