@@catlover85517 really? That's unfortunate. Do you think she's maybe focusing too much on the feel instead of correct interpretation? My church friend is deaf so you could easily understand her signing singing. But I know very little ASL so I wasn't aware that this interpreter wasn't doing a great job. It just reminded me of the idea of watching someone sing and how much expression can be put into it. Speaking or hearing words or music isn't the only way to enjoy music nor is it even sometimes necessary. As my lovely friend would always demonstrate. I was not meaning offense by it.

For those that don’t know. Interpreters get paid easily 30 an hour minimum. Some places even lay up to 60 an hour. It’s an impressive job. Free concert too I’m sure

It might be $30/hr - but there are costs we need to work out too. Like preparing on our own time. Concerts take many HOURS of prep, just for songs. Also have to work out logistics via phone tag. We don't have offices - so milage, scheduling, & travel time are issues. If we take care of the business side of it, there are less hours we can work. If we don't, we have to pay someone to do it, or join an agency. An agency takes their cut off the top & you lose autonomy.

I took sign-language classes many years ago in college and let me tell you, deaf people are great dancers. We all went to a discotheque and while the DJ was spinning the records, the deaf people all had their hands on the speakers in order to feel the vibrations. I imagine it’s not easy work. You’d have to listen and memorize all the songs in the set. Then with ASL your facial expressions and body language is also interpretive so you have to make sure those align. You have to match the energy of the artist as well. This looks cool, but it is far better to learn how to sign correct, using correct posture, facial expressions, not using distracting movements or having stuff around the hands and fingers. Keep learning you will get where you want. 👍👍

Sign language has a misconception that it’s only the hands, signs do use the entire body! To interpret the words deaf people don’t only look at your hands but your entire body. But she killed this.

Signing is actual pretty challenging to learn..my autistic daughter who is only 5, is non verbal mostly and prefers to sign over verbal communication and it has been tough for me to get in tune with but it is truly amazing idk ❤

Signed English is easier than ASL, as ASL has a grammar all it's own which is not like English grammar. I prefer ASL grammar.
