My hatchet is sharp. The reason I have a hatchet is for fast crafting of items with short controlled chops. Great video.

Why not just baton the back of the sharp hatchet with another log rather than bash the back on stone? I'm in the always sharp camp
@michaelbrinks8089Ай бұрын
That, or if he was splitting the wood on a big log 🪵. Instead of a stone 🪨 then the handle wouldn't get chewed up from the rock.
@123HomefreeАй бұрын
😂 because lifting another log that weighs less than this one to try and split this by baton is obviously less efficient than just turning it over and letting it fall on the hatchet and again as stated clearly in the video metal and highdensity plastic handles can handle this use on the much more efficiently choppedon stone.

@@123Homefree Right On 👍....I was thinking it was 🪓 getting chewed up after only a couple of months of use..While posting my comment, I was thinking about a used 🔨 hammer. With a synthetic handle that broke in half on me. After only a couple of missed swings. It was below freezing at the time. So I think already being worn/used & freezing. Might have helped lead to it's quick demise ☠️💀..... I noticed my comment agreeing with you., got deleted.. Saying that picking up & using another log as a hammer to hit the axe 🪓head is another cumbersome step in the process that can be avoided. 🤔 Right now I have a fire 🔥 going with some super hard wood. That won't split with a hatchet 🪓.....Greta says I shouldn't burn wood to keep warm. Greta also says to not tell anyone that she uses natural gas. To heat her mansion she bought with climate change grift money. Greta says, do as she says, not as she does. 😂

I agree. We’re splittin baby. If I have gnarly twisted wood, a sharp splitter works good. That method reminds me of hanging a hatchet handle actually haha. Hope you’re doing good.
@lindboknifeandtool27 күн бұрын
Also your mention of chopping surface. Like an anvil, you want most the energy to be dumped into the wood or log. If you’re hitting the back against wood it’ll absorb more. If you’re purely striking the back like that, using an anvil or railroad track will straight up send more energy back up into it like a bouncy ball. Like if you just hit a hammer on one it bounces, that’s the energy return that’s usually used for returning the hammer but it’d probably dump into the log. Recently saw a dewalt log splitter, uses 3 of their big Bertha batteries

You should use the hatchet in your dominant hand never in your offhand because you need all the control you can get the axes the one that could be used either way.

I saw a fully automatic tent ⛺ camping wood stove that burns wood pellets. Filled into a little hopper on top & burns for 6 to 8 hrs. Non stop on low so you don't need to wakeup cold every 2 hrs & add more wood.....If It'll burn sticks chopped up into pellet size pieces. Then you could probably chop up a hopper full of small diameter sticks into diy pellets in 15 to 30 minutes.. If I ended up with my moms small 1 bdrm house. I'd be interested in a slightly larger version & a mini electric wood chipper. That I could feed small branches into it to chop. To fill several bags with diy stick pellets. It can burn regular wood during waking hours.
@lindboknifeandtool27 күн бұрын
That would be sweet man! I’ll have the look into that myself honestly.
@michaelbrinks808927 күн бұрын
@lindboknifeandtool It also has an ash tray that you can just pull out & dump. Instead of having to manually scoop ashes out & dump into a container. I'm not sure but it might also be a gassifier design. To where it emits no visible smoke from the pipe. Once up and burning. I wish I had thought of it. Dtill not sure if it can burn small sticks cut into pellet sized. I would think it could unless hopper gets clogged from too many irregular shaped pieces.

Aaron the best and safest kindling and wood splitter for yojr small stove would be the spiral corkscrew drill splitter. Cant cut your toe and makes kindling so fast for the small stove
@toddberkely6791Ай бұрын
sounds over engineered
@RustyShakleford1Ай бұрын
@toddberkely6791 it's not at all, a drill is needed to work with anyways. If anything it can be devised into a hand crank as well not just solar powered drill splitter. It is actually to avoid injury in shtf as a hatchet can easily cut a toe or finger or cause a bounce back of wood which has cut my forehead open before. It will outlive the hatchet itself and makes more kindling faster.
@123HomefreeАй бұрын
Thanks but theres obviously notjingnunsafe about this and its actually the best way for the weight and stow space it requires. Lots more pushback on this unorthodox yet logical way of doing in this particular lifestyle 😂

@123Homefree oh ha I keep a hatchet but for specifically kindling if you have an electric drill already i suggest a drill splitter it changed my.life with my large wood stove

Everything he says makes perfect sense for splitting rounds of that size with a small hatchet. Obviously doesn't want to be carting a large log splitter around in his wagon...

And dirty nails? What's the purpose
@sweetbriarfarm777Ай бұрын
If you work with your hands, the cuticles and nails can get stained. Even a brush doesn’t clean them without soaking. My husband did auto repair and the days I garden or harvest fruit are nail disasters. Typing rude comments while sitting on your backside will keep your hands as soft as a baby’s behind.
