I no longer have a standardized hardware setup for case testing, so I chose to omit thermals from this review as I have nothing to compare it to. For what it's worth, the setup I used here was an R7 7700X and a 7900 XT, and I didn't notice any thermal issues at all. The case is also fairly quiet, but again I was using very good/expensive fans. What is your experience with this case?

Would you recommend this over the Montech Sky 2?
@atlantic_love2 жыл бұрын
Is it cost that prevents you from doing proper hardware setup for case testing? I imagine it would be difficult to continuously buy different hardware components for a video or two, and not get your money back in some form or another.
@Oceanborn7122 жыл бұрын
That looks like a pretty great case. The lack of included fans doesn't really bother me. I always use a full set of RGB fans anyway and even if I plan for something without RGB, I'd still take a full set of fans from one brand or another to keep the visuals clean and coherent. Having two included fans actually seems optimal for that as you can put them both in the bottom where nobody will see them anyway and fill the remaining case with your own. This actually saves money for two fans.

I think this case as well as the larger Hyte Y60 would be a lot better if it was not built to be vertical GPU mount only. There are some GPUs that look better vertically mounted to show off the sides, and with the way this case and the Y60 is designed with the wrap around glass would make your setup a nice show piece. I seen horror images of people forcing vertical mounts with these Hyte cases on Reddit. They had to cut into the aluminum case. A sad showing because Hyte should have build the PCI slots to be switchable.

I appreciate the video. I have a Y40 sitting in a box getting ready for a build and I whole heartedly agree on the fan portion of your commentary. I've been researching fans like crazy trying to find what will work the best with this setup and an AIO.

I just finished a build for my son who insisted on this case. Your review is pretty much spot on. The lack of grommets on a case that was designed heavily on aesthetics is puzzling. Also, in my build the bottom fan did not seem to really do much. Maybe a 2 degree difference with installed or not. Hyte should have just not included fans and lowered the price accordingly.

I got the white and black Y40. It's the best looking case along with the Lian Li 011 Dynamic. I never thought I'd get a vertical GPU mount, but this is high quality stuff. Just note that you'll probably want to add two or three fans. The quality though makes up for price tag. Edit: Also, this is remarkably easy to build in. By far the easiest case I've worked with because of the removeable panels.

As a builder that prefers air coolers, I'm just not that interested in the the back panel intake style, but if someone was already planing an 240 or 280mm AIO, then I'm glad Hyte saved the money by excluding fans that are going to get replaced by an AIO.
@Psymah2 жыл бұрын
I went with air cooling as well, (everything is still coming in though. In terms of cooling would you put two 120mm exhaust fans towards the back of the top of the case to help with airflow? Or would you just do the two 140's in the front intake? Im gonna run the Ryzen 7 7700x and the power color 6800xt.
@cj_zak1681 Жыл бұрын
Good job, great points you made, very helpful 🙂I think I still prefer the traditional method of fan intakes from the front - I just like knowing that cool air is kinda blowing across the mobo. Putting an AIO at the side would mean warm air coming in, unless you set its fans as exhaust but then you would have a weird extremely negative pressure scenario? I dunno seems like a weird design to me, maybe I'm just old-fashioned and stuck in my ways 😅 (have only ever used the fractal meshify-c and now love my corsair 4000D airflow that replaced it)

Case looks sick but considering the 150 (which is over 200 in some countries in EU) I feel like there's a lack of options for customers. I mean I come from a Lian Li mini and a NR200P and I just loved the way you can choose how to build it. Obviously you know what you are buying with the Y40 but I would love a case with same design that at least gives the option of both veritical and horizontal GPU mount and leave a couple of cm on the bottom to mount fans.

I think they should make a version without the riser card using regular expansion slots for 100$. It'd be a hit for sure. Vertical GPUs can look cool, but not everyone likes it, so giving the options to the customer is always a pro in my eyes.

So I guess these are not actually "bottom to top" cooled cases like the Y60 (??) since they only have a single 140mm clearance in the basement? Also it blows right into the dead space. I got two Noctua chromax fans and I'm thinking I'll order 5 more and cover up every slot just for the hell of it
@atlantic_love2 жыл бұрын
Excelllent, excellent job critiquing this case. I'm thinking this case won't be one for me, considering issues with fan cooling (I'm not ever going to get into liquid cooling), with one caveat. I could see using this for a Linux (general use) / home server build where the graphic card is never going to scream about anything. Being that I am also never going to be interested in storing loads of videos / images, it doesn't seem that lack of space / grommets for wiring would not be an issue, but I definitely think it will be an issue for others. I've subscribed as I appreciate the straight-forward, no bullshit presentation :)

I would rather a case not come with fans anyway. They are usually garbage compared to quality fans and are never enough. The Y40 looks even better than the Y60, IMO. Thanks for the review. The red unit is definitely high on my next build list, since I already have a white and black system(s).

Why didn't they make the front glass stop at the top of the bottom power "hideaway" ? There could of been a CD/DVD/BR player there which is what I would want. This is a cute case, but it's way too small for my taste. I currently have my main PC in a Thermaltake View 51, that is until Thermaltake's new CTE C750 hits the market. Then I'm grabbing one of those suckers.
@atlantic_love2 жыл бұрын
In looking at case after case after case, one thing I see that I wish were different, is the industry's insistence on moving the motherboard as close to the top of the case as possible. I'd prefer it be more center to create more space around the motherboard.
@OlettaLiano2 жыл бұрын
@@atlantic_love I agree. With motherboards moved so close to the top there's only room for 30mm thick radiators. I have a couple 64mm rads I want to use, but there's no room them. Also, if you don't have the EPS cable connect to the motherboard before you up the radiator in, you're in trouble. LOL
@atlantic_love2 жыл бұрын
@@OlettaLiano Admittedly I don't do liquid cooling, and as beautiful as it is I'm not willing to take the risk of leaks and don't really want to deal with the maintenance part of it. Are radiators useful for fans in some way? I know that most wire routing goes off to the side and behind the motherboard, but I do think it can look pretty depending on how it might be routed around the motherboard hence my want for space there.

Horrible designed integrated air filter in the back panel and the dust filter on top can not be removed for better exhaust airflow. Bottom no room for the wiring the fan will get in the way. 150.00 Nah for 50.00 more can get a better premium case.
@wvman23742 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The Y60 has dual compartment setup so the PSU is behind the motherboard, leaving the bottom of the case free for full on air intake fans, giving significant bottom to top air flow. The Y40 with the PSU in the bottom combined with the side fan intake really limits the intake airflow. For $80-100 this would be a good case, figuring that there won't be expensive and hot running GPU and CPU in there that can get by with the worse airflow.
