This four part series was absolutely awesome. Dan is a fabulous presenter (as well as the included Amsoil staff) and Gale was reading my mind when he asked some questions through each video. The amount of education offered here is enormous and presented in a fashion understandable to the average mechanically inclined layperson. I have been a longtime proponent and user of synthetic lubricants in all my vehicles, motorcycles and power equipment, and these videos just reinforce my trust. Thank-you to Gale and Amsoil for making these videos available.

I’ve done more pulls in my 2014 Mazda 3 over the course of 8 years and 100,000 miles with daily cold starts x2 (too and from work) and actual G forces while cornering HARD. I want to see serious Long Term results with a street driven & abused engine running on 15k oil change intervals with the oil level kept at LOW on purpose.

We really have to give a huge thanks to Gale Banks and Amsoil for making these videos. This will change a lot of peoples minds and convince people to make a smart switch to treat there engine better. This whole Dexos labeling marketing scam is out of control and a lot of people think it’s good but it’s actually bad. Hopefully many people will now understand the true history of Amsoil and what they actually do to protect our engines. The price is worth it in my opinion.

The Dexos lubes are more than adequate for the majority of the daily drivers they are going in. I like and use Amsoil in my severe duty stuff but my daily driver gets Pennzoil platinum and actually had slightly lower wear than Amsoil signature series 5w30 did. Both samples were ran 5,000 miles before being sent to the lab for analysis.

@@AB-coyote Did you run amsoil first on the same engine? Even with amsoil, if amsoil was used in the first 5k miles of an engine, i would expect it to show more wear in a UOA after the initial 5k than a different "synthetic" oil being used afterwards between 5-10k and tested at 10k.

I always believed that all oil was the same until about 18 years ago. I was at a buddy’s mechanic shop and he had a motor job on a a Ford super duty pick up truck. This truck had 315,000 miles on it and was in for a leaking intake manifold or something. When he pulled the intake and valve covers off everything looked brand new. We were both amazed and were astounded by the cleanliness of this engine. When the owner showed up to pick up his truck we asked him what oil he was using. When he said Amsoil both of us went and got our own Amsoil accounts. To this day I run Amsoil engine oil, trans fluid and differential fluid. I’m pushing 422,000 miles now and my truck runs as good as it did when it was new. I would love to get a new truck but my truck runs so good that I decided to fix the rust, paint it and keep her going. I also installed an Amsoil bypass oil filter about 12 years ago so now I change my oil every 25-30,000 miles.

**Slow clap** Honestly, Im a 100% green FNG to the diesel world. There is so much to learn, and I dig it baby! So much knowledge from Mr Banks on his own products and now Amsoil too!?!? The one thing that I keep seeing/hearing/reading on my diesel journey is, use quality products and your diesel will last forever. So glad I found and went with Banks products. And because of Mr Banks himself, I look forward to using Amsoil products in not just my diesel, but my other gas and two stroke engines! I applaud Banks and Amsoil for the much needed transparency and support they provide their current, NEW and future customers! This was a great series (along with all of the past Banks videos)! I've run Amsoil for years in all my cars from Daily Driver to my high end cars. Currently I'm using their products in my '72 Pantera, '87 Porsche 944T, 2013 Lamborghini LP570, and my daily beater car 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo. I use it not only in the engine but in the gearbox/transaxle as well where applicable. Their customer service is always there to make a recommendation based on what is best product for each vehicle and if they don't offer anything that meets or exceeds the manufacturers recommended fluids they always tell me.

I worked in a diesel engine lab doing this type of testing, seeing how the oil responds to soot creation by changing timing, vgt and egr. Keeping everything in parameters and how the different oils and additives did in with the different engines. Very cool seeing the entire explanation of what I was doing there as we never got to see the big picture and talk about it. I have to say, our test cells are not that big and not nearly that clean.

I really enjoyed this series on synthetic oil, but this was my favorite part. It's putting all the bits and pieces of an engine together that I love. There wasn't too much to see, but hearing that small block roar and seeing the disassembled engine was very pleasing.

The only thing that I thought they would also include is a test of the oil also after the Dyno test. I've been an AMS Oil user since 1990 and absolutely love the reliability of my vehicles and small engine equipment on it.

Though, for the price of a few extra tools for the frequent flyer engines you'd save your staff a lot of back and forth time. And time is money.

I use to race snowmobiles back in the 80's and I used Ams Oil. We run 2 cycle engines and was getting 114 hp with a 340cc Rotax engine. We run them engines ar 12000 rpm and run 100 to 1 mixture. We never had a engine failure due to oil. The only failure we had was running the engine a little on the lean side. Our mistake by jetting the carbs a little to lean trying to grab a little more power. When we took the engines apart there was a surprising amount of oil in the crankcase. I have never seen this before with other 2 cycle engine oil. Ams Oil was far ahead and better then anyone else in the business that we used back then.

That was another Great episode, I, loved The Smile on Gales face he lit up liked a chubby 6 year old in a Ice cream store when he saw the huge monitor with all of the data on it from the Dyno Pulls. Makes me thankful for choosing Amsoil years ago the only oil That goes in my 2005 6.0 still has the factory bolts and head gaskets, and I, tow a approximately 11K 5th wheel.

Another very informative video. A bit of an advertorial maybe, but I don't begrudge that considering the information it gives. Once again Kudos to Amsoil for giving us a pretty good look behind the doors at what they do to keep their edge. I did see Amsoil kicking goals on another KZbin site which validated the cold flow especially but also when the oil had been cooked, it still flowed better than the competitor's new oil. Not big for me in Australia as we hardly go below freezing in Adelaide but those snow caked cars definitely need free flowing oil in winter time.

When we raced dirt, we changed oil every couple races or so, but we didn't have that much if an engine, it was about 10:1, 355ci Chevy, basically built like a stock late 60's engine, about 350-370hp, it came from a daily driven 50 Chevy truck! It had a 3030 cam intake and headers! It came alive at 4500rpm it was fun in that little truck!

50 + years ago Smokey Yunick did an oil test article in Popular Science Magazine. He was testing a home brewed synthetic oil made by a chemist (?) some where in Wisconsin. The oil was called All Proof 5w -50, packaged in round metal cans. His test engine was 300 hp 302 Chevy. He tested with conventional oil, then synthetic oil and back to conventional oil. He checked valves and whatever between tests to maintain an accurate comparison. His results were a gain of 20 hp and a 20 degree drop in oil temperature. I called Smokey and ordered the oil for a twin engine boat with 2 modified 302 Fords with 7 Qt oil pans. Boat also had Oil temperature gauges. I picked up almost 100 Rpm and oil temp dropped 15-20 degrees. 100rpm was a measurable speed increase. The oil was $5 a qt. When I called sometime later to order more oil he said the formula changed and he didn't like it and and couldn't supply me. Just talking to Smokey on the phone a few times made the transaction very informative. He was brutally honest with his answers. I wonder if this oil had a connection with Amsoil.

As a farm kid in the 70’s, our family farm was my main task but no allowance. I you wanted money, you worked for a neighbor who needed hay put up, field plowed, cattle moved 6 miles down a county road as few had help, part time, full time help. It was just all on the farmer and most could make it work, but sadly some couldn’t take it. But we had Amsoil salesman show up, like an implement dealer with the latest plow. Boss told me to run the plow and report. If I gave 3,4,5 reasons for now liking the plow, boss told him to leave. The one thing I remember was the Amsoil rep. Local, knew the name but did it part time. They were unsure of how to point out things because they forgot, we’re not that good but remember, public speaking is the hardest thing or phobia for most. Looking back on a career of fixing cars, then later teaching and holding tech seminars, if you lived to product, knew it inside and out, the became better. I honestly feel sorry for those who tried but gave up. DK, ASE master tech since 78. Raytheon contract labor for GM/ACDelco. No school, no tech college but apprenticeship only. Then went to a dealer for benefits! Mr. Banks, I wish I met you years ago, decades. Blessings.

I love this channel. The best. Gale, When will we see the leaf blower 2-stroke teardown? So, provided good oil, a good SBC for dirt track racing really only needs 40 psi oil pressure? That's going against every "norm" we have ever heard about engines. I get that constant oil pressure is key, we have all seen what oil starvation does.

I’d be curious on cold starts and short distances over the long term where oil is not up to temperature. Many drivers don’t get the oil up to temp and do many short trips over the ownership of their vehicle.

I was hoping to see some data on wear. Especially, the rod throw bearings, which take the highest loads at high RPM. Rod throw bearings seem to be the most common failure in race engines.

@BanksPower I've got a good question for the Amsoil folks. Amsoil doesn't have their products "licensed" to OEM specs if you will (no Dexos certification on the bottles for example) but they claim to test to those specs. Do they ACTUALLY test to all of those specs and just choose not to pay licensing fees to the OEs that make them?

I saw a rep from amsoil answer that saying that it does meet dexos standards, and that basically they didn't want to pay for licensing. Considering the price of amsoil it wouldn't be much added but they seemed adamant about not paying it. Problem is some dealers were saying that amsoil would void the factory warranty if you had a engine failure. Anyways I'm sure the amsoil is superior but who can afford to fight with GM, so I just bought the dexos for my vehicle. 🤔

You can buy an engine pre-lube system that will force oil out through the passage ways. It comes on automatically when you turn the key. This way if the engine has been just sitting and not running for a while, it is not running dry for the first few seconds. That is where a big part of the engine wear comes from. There is a company called Pre-Lub, or something like that, which makes a nice kit. Hope this helps.

If Gale is racing his turbo diesel road course truck all weekend long in 30min stints, what is the abort limit for oil temp? I didn't see any oil temp data besides the live dyno cycle data, which was only around 210F. Thanks!

I watch your video on amsoil all 4 parts, I am wonder if they had the ww2 oil that the German made would they compare the ww2 oil and amsoil and the delta between them. Also, with the rebuild of an engine, the delta between the new and rebuild engine. Thank you

Just came across this and it is intense how much they torture the motor and oil. One question I have is does the horsepower and torque go up or down at the end of the test with motor breaking in/down after 50 hours plus with the oil breaking down?

I’m curious as to why they used such a relatively mild engine for that dyno oil test. 300HP ain’t a whole lot and an engine of the same size but outputting 500HP would exert much more stress on the internal components and thus the oil. Is there something I’m missing here as to why they used that particular power combo?

I'd assume because it's cheap and easy to get parts for. Also I'd imagine a lot of grassroots racing still uses it as the motor of choice for the same reasons.

@@puzzleluvr Perhaps that’s true, you certainly make some valid points. I’m unfamiliar with most grassroots racing so maybe this is the typical power level of some grassroots series. But for sure the higher levels of competition make much more power out of equivalent or even smaller engines and I’m sure they may use Amsoil too.

Much better to try one of these little 2 liters that are pumping out 300 hp with turbos. Running intense heat and pressure. Or GDI engines, the late model hyundias typically burn a quart every 1000 mi or more. How about a ford Triton 5.4 its destroys oil and has massive engine noise. This whole series is just a stroke fest..

Guessing they use this engine because of its flat tappet cam and lifters. The metal on metal scraping with no bearing surface, roller, or direct contained pressurized oil.

I'd like know what the guys at AMSOIL think about oil stabilizers! Take Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer as an example. If I'm using amsoil product do I need oil stabilizer? Does it actually make a difference?

Gale, Amsoil is some pretty good stuff- none better. That said, I think I'm going to include an accumulator at the least for my future performance engines! FR

Just for a Dyno fun run they should try the Porsche 500 hour endurance run that mimics the race car driver telematics racing through the Alps full tilt. Harley did it with their VRod engine on the dyno and it was much more brutal than they expected.

I believe Deere also tests to 500 hours at about 140°C oil temp and 85% engine load. Rpms won't be very high, but that's hot for the oil.

So, obviously AmsOil doesn't refine but blend. But is synthetic motor oil still refined from good ol crude oil fractions? I've used AmsOil gear oil and theirs are among the best.
