We ran a straw chopper for years. We found it quicker to bed down with a telehandler using a mchale claphands grab with round bales. I think it would work in your shed shutting the cattle out into the scrapeing passage and then going in with the manitou to bed down. It is also very simple and low cost and saves money on fuel and tractor numbers and no dust for livestock.
@TJMack-3 жыл бұрын
Yeah mate - that leveling just isn't acceptable - especially on a brand new shed. Have a word with the landlord and see if he can get the builders back in. I know it's a pain moving the cattle back out but it'll make your (and any other tenants down the line) lives a helluva lot easier with a proper draining floor.

Discount on rent from the landlord too if they can't get it fixed.

Don’t forget straw bedding makes the best muck for fertiliser, it’s high in potash and can replace what beef animals take from the ground. It’s important to factor this into your bedding costs. For this reason I will only use straw as bedding.

The blower will bed down much more efficiently than the bucket, also the tyres will compress the sawdust bed and reduce its porosity. So I would suggest making a crew yard at the end of the shed and move the cattle out when bedding down. You will save a load on material costs for the sake of 10 minutes moving the stock in and out👍

Hi Tom, my experience, with those Boden drivers they are really helpful guy's. . Having watched a FarmingBros video before this it seems not all straw choppers have a 'remote'. Some of the stock seemed to really like getting blasted with the sawdust! THis allows the bedding to warm up during the winter after all. I would probably sugest about 10cm of sawdust as a foundation and once it have settled use straw. Granted this comes from me as a HORSE person and not a cow one. So I apologice if I missinterperate anything or missunderstood something :) Just a tip from me :)
