I test drove the GX 550 Overtrain Plus and Luxury Plus. Very disappointing is the adjective I would use. The engine is not good, poor acceleration, and in cabin noise levels were much worse compared to the outgoing GX 460. The Interior is also a huge miss, neither luxurious or rugged. The Ineos Grenadier, as quirky as it is, has a killer interior, the GX 550 looks like every other Toyota, nothing but Blah. Why would anyone consider the upscale models of this vehicle, when for 20K more they can have the LX, a much nicer vehicle.

@@carpentertrim Who cares, I have been driving Lexus GX and LX SUV's since 2003, so I think I know a bit more about them then you or any "Automotive Journalist", who briefly test drive them for a few minutes. I rented an Lexus GX and drove it for 7 days, was entirely unimpressed with the design and fit and finish of the interior. There is nothing particularly luxurious or certainly rugged about the interior of the vehicle. The approach and departure angles are so-so, ground clearance, not very good, and the engine sucks compared to the old 8 cylinder. The vehicle does not accelerate well and its in-cabin noise level is significantly louder compared to the GX-460. The 2nd row seating is awful from an ergonomics standpoint, and I have graduate level scientific background in Ergonomics and Biomechanics. You might like the vehicle, but for me, If I wanted to go off-road, an older Toyota LandCruiser or previous generations LandRover Defender 110, or the new Ineos Grenadier or the G-Wagon are vehicle I would travel in.
