MBT sold me on the format in his Cwarantine Series #12. VW and Drytron can both brick. They don't have 1-card full-combo starters. They can both be interrupted by single handtraps under average conditions, and it seems like the handtraps that work on one are equally effective against the other. Their bosses don't have passive protection. Drytron typically can't out Mine, DRNM, or Vanity's Ruler. These decks feel beatable. It's still weird calling Eldlitch rogue.

The only problems with outting a drytron end-board is that you potentially have to deal with 2 more disruptions in the form of orange light w/ Eva and you also have to kill them or else they’ll pick themselves back up. They also have a really small chance of bricking.

Yeah they play negates going first (also Ruler doesn't much care about Mine), but unless they're playing twin twisters main they're not doing anything in game one. Game two and three are different stories, but that's true of most decks going against Mystic Mine.

@@rd9669 Actually...from what I can tell in the OCG Drytron ISN'T a meta deck. Between Maxx C, Colossus, Vanity's Emptiness, and the more powerful pendulum decks, Drytron is, at best, a decent rogue strategy in the OCG.

We have a large other section in our meta break downs that’s what these decks would be maybe even a couple ftk decks and etc. if we didn’t have good floodgates drytron would probably be tier 1 best deck too

@@rd9669 Where do you get your data? Becase from what I can find Drytron is definitively not as good as the other decks you listed and really isn't a good deck at all. I can only find one week where it took more than one spot in the top ocg decks over the course of the last three months. Most of the decks you mentioned double, triple, or quadruple that consistently AND let's not forget the growing centralizing of the meta around VW, which is consistently growing in representation (30+% of the metagame as of the last data I could find).

This format is great...Until you play a deck that relies on drawing the VFD outs to out him (aka literally RNG), or until the same thing happens for Vanity's Ruler (with even less chances of working cause herald of ultimateness), or until you barely don't kill Drytron and get punished by literally getting your entire board yoinked by Natasha loops, or until you realize that the Anaconda => Dragoon engine as well as ZEUS are still roaming free and perfectly legal to use.

I had an interesting interaction with Virtual World. I stopped them from being able to go into VFD with a single Effect Veiler and with a weakened boardstate I ran house with friggin Familiar Possessed. Eldlich also can be countered with a single Denko Sekka or an Abyss Dweller or Lancea which is hilarious. Drytron don't typically run back row removal so if you go first, you can set up Summon Limit and go gg.

I’m curious as to why people don’t like this format. I hate True King of All Calamities as much as everyone else but having a diverse meta with a lot of traps decks is a sign of a good format. In any other format it would just be who ever wins the die roll wins but now that’s not necessarily the case sometimes. There’s a lot of back and forth and grind games even with the combo decks. People always complain that duels end after turn 2 but now that they have that they’re still complaining because Calamities is in the format? There’s never going to be a perfectly balanced meta but this is pretty much as good as it gets, especially with how power creep affects our game.

They do things intentionally, but I think that history has shown that there are also times where they just don’t think far ahead. Union carriers main problem is how generic it is. It’s impossible to make really good equip able monster in an archetype rn because it would be abused. Basically means that the design will be limited as long as you have union carrier

I think it is silly for a card like destruction sword to have to be banned SOLEY because of Carrier... There's nothing wrong with generic support if you do it right but if you have stuff like Needlefibre which is supposed to support CRYSTRON first and foremost it falls flat and becomes degenerate with the deck that needed it most still not getting a boost in power. There's a very big distinction between a generic engine in a deck and an overly generic boss monster that leads an entire summoning method if not more that's just toxic for the game. So in conclusion I think Konami is going way too far with the generic stuff which hurts the game in the long run

This format bores me to no end. The competitive decks sole goal is to lock the opponent out of play as much as humanly possible. Sure if you take Drytron, VR, Eldlich and Dogma out of the format all of the rogue decks are fairly balanced and on the same power level but try going against any of those decks 2nd and win without having direct maindeck outs that you've also drawn. I can't begin to tell you how much of a farcry this format is from even decent contemporary formats that have existed. HAT, DUEA, Monarch BA PePe Kozmo, Metalfoe Blue-eyes Paleo Hero, Zoo, Striker Salad Orcust Thunder are all leaps and bounds ahead of this format.

I'm sorry but this feels like one of the worst formats I've played in some time, sure rogue decks have been stealing tops at various events, but the over-representation of Virtual World and Dryton being combo decks that end on auto-win floodgates is worse in my opinion than the buster lock (not saying I liked the buster lock but yeah), and maining cards to beat those strategies isn't feasible, because of the over-representation of Eldlich variants in all levels of play- so it just feels like a guaranteed loss game 1 against VFD or Ruler if you lose the die roll, unless you're playing exactly a trap deck that can survive it, which is why Eldlich is essentially the only option to play competitively, and the only reason certain decks top outside those is because with good hands they can survive a VFD or Ruler- so this format just locks you out of almost all mid-tier and combo strategies, and most control decks that aren't just set 5 traps pass

I'd disagree too. While there are clear top decks, all of them are arguably very fair, whether you like them or not, that won't change. The meta itself is also very slow, making it even easier for rogue decks to compete. And then there's also the card variety. Literally everything is currently viable, even a big amount of traps. That's something we haven't seen in a long time.

@@aRetailArchitect another thing to look at is that BECAUSE there are too decks that it's fair. In a format that is truly equal in it's decks, with no or very little superiority within the decks. It's so chaotic that people don't have much fun competitively. Drytron and VW being the top gives us the handtraps we need to build, gives us the droplet/drnm targets. But even more so, my 3 copies of sword of consealing i got from a structure deck helps so much now. This era of Yu-Gi-Oh is the best it's been in years,with much more variety than we had in 2015. It might be the best format period. Get rid of Calamities and Benten and we'll see the greatest era ever.

Dino is a little bit overrated. Ash kill the deck, lancea just gg , floodgate in trap based is good againt dino , vfd , some sort macro cosmos. But yeah it is a good meta deck but not as unfair as other meta deck last format

I apologize, but could someone please explain to me why this is a good format? I don't know if I can properly explain myself and why I disagree, but I'll try. Before I continue, I would like to say that I don't play the meta, and I don't normally play any decks that used to be meta, Such as Dogmatika Invoked or invoked Shaddoll, etc. First off, in my opinion, deck diversity alone does not constitute a good format, especially when that diversity is taken up by a handful of decks. What I mean by that is, even excluding the top three decks, the other rogue decks still feel like I'm playing against the meta. These decks, to me in particular, are unbeatable and will never be beatable in any circumstances. Of course, that's probably because of my playstyle. As someone who enjoys playing pure, and playing old decks, my decks will never be good enough to stand up to even 1 or 2 negates, especially with how liberally they're used. I can't play a single turn. That's it. I can't play a single turn. If I make a single move, going first or second, my life is ruined by effect veiled, impermanence, ash blossom, or a solemn card. I can't play any of the NEW decks in their original state and win a game. If I play security force, I'm going to lose, if I play live twins, chances are I'm going to lose, if I play lightsworn, unless I get really lucky, I'm going to lose. I know lightsworn is not a new deck, but still. Normally, if I see eldlich or invoked, or dinos, or even drytron, I scoop. If I'm veilered or ashed, or gamma'd, or impermed, I scoop. Not because I have a bad deck, even though I most likely do, but because I don't get to play from that point on. It's why I'm happy to have decks like virtual world, or madolche, or Dogmatika, because it allows me to play through disruption without having to feel like an asshole. I know all this sounds like I'm contradicting myself and disproving my own point now, but what I think I'm getting at, or at least trying to get at, is that I don't want to have to play specific decks to beat the meta, I don't want to have to play cards that ruin my consistency just to win games. I don't want to be the angry guy playing mystic mine, or the sad guy playing stun. I Don't wanna be the guy playing a butt-load of handtraps to stop everything my opponent does every turn, I don't wanna build a deck based purely around dealing with threats all the time just so I can have the satisfaction of finally winning a game. I want to be able to play the decks I want to play, as they were intended to be played. You can say that these are just the words of a salty yu-gi-oh player who needs to learn to get with the times and stop being stuck in the past, and you'd technically be right. But here's the thing. I'm not an old yugioh player. I'm basically brand new. I'm 22, and started playing this game online two years ago, and I already want to leave this game because of how terrible some of the people are and how unfair this game can be. I don't know if this has convinced some of you, or if there are even people who understand what I mean, but I hope you read all this drabble and at least hear my opinion.

Zaid Abu Saleem fine. Halq, VFD, Dragunn, Union carrier are the ones that must go. VFD+ Dragunn because they are too strong payoffs and Halq and Carrier for enabling to many different degenerative combos. And if you don’t believe that Carrier belongs here, it’s just a matter of time. People are already abusing it with floaters like Dawn Knight or that fairies that searches 2 others.

@@frankwest5388 That's some very mediocre ideas for hits you have there. 1. Needlefiber doesn't enable a vast amount of degenerate plays anymore, now that Linkross has been banned. Very few decks even play it now. 2. The reason you put up VFD here is Virtual World, I'd assume. That fixes next to nothing though. VW will just switch to handlooping 3-5 cards with Enterblathnir and Gottoms, which is objectively seen even worse than 2x VFD. 3. Banning Dragoon instead of the *only singular card* which makes it summonable in almost any deck (Verte Anaconda) makes literally no sense whatsoever.

User Halq has literally gotten 5 cards banned by now (sure Linkcross would probably ended up there sooner or later himself, but everything else is innocent). No card that does this much collateral damage, should be legal. Also, the second people get bored of VFD, we will see Halq decks again. It mainly doesn’t see play because people are sick of it. It can easily compete. VFD: it’s a better mystic mine. The entire current format is all about playing around that stupid thing. Kill it. Dragunn: just general bad card design. Has no weakness. While it doesn’t get as much play as people feared, it’s mere existence forces Konami to release cards as broken as droplet. Union carrier: is already being abused in ways to was clearly not intended to and will only become more degenerate. It’s only a matter of time. These are the most important hits. There are other cards that I think should go, like mine itself, but these are the ones ringing the game at the most consistent level for both competitive and casual players.

Not really too much of a fan of this format. Mostly because I don't enjoy playing against trapdecks or stun like strategies (vanity's ruler/ calamitys). And because I only really enjoy combo and OTK strategies. And non of the relevant strategies really fit the way I like to play... I much rather play through two and a halve negates than a TCBOO. But at least buster lock is gone.

@@zagorsaxe i mean honestly. I think last format dragoln link would be manageable without the buster lock. 2 and a halve negates would be manageable. Depending on the exakt board I also enjoy playing through it. Finding ways to make my plays work and stuff. And they can still make good control Decks. Just look at stuff like striker.
