I've been a barista for 9 years now but it's at various Starbucks like locations so we use the boring automatic machines. Since we're trained to be "fast" there isn't a lot of time to practice the aesthetic side of coffee, and I really enjoy getting to watch you and your tutorials. It IS hard she just makes it look easy because she is awesome and has obviously practiced a kabizzillion times! So many parts of this could go wrong from the milk you buy, the machine you use to stretch milk with, your technique, the cup you use, to being able to actually pour it. I'm pretty meticulous and good at picking stuff up usually but I can't even do a basic wiggle

Coming from a barista in training i can disagree with that. Its totally hard. She made it look super simple but a lot of technique and knowledge is needed just to make a latte with a beautiful latte art and perfect coffee taste experience. Even till this day im still struggling to create a simple heart shape. Wish me best😚

I dont know if its just me, but with the starbucks equipment the only cup that this actually works with is the flat white cup! All the other cups are too deep for the pout to reach the espresso before the milk fills to the top :(

I've never really thought making latte was such a tough thing until I had to make one for my husband. Failed miserably. The way he likes his latte is somewhat more like cappuccino. I don't understand why you need to pull the shot into a separate glass to the pour into your cup. I've seen everyone do this but haven't gotten an answer for it. Wouldn't it be more efficient pouring into the final cup? Maybe I'm missing something...

It's a measuring cup: Great to know she's got the right volume of coffee, it's also conveniently small that she could place the scale underneath while pulling the shot to get her 1:2 weight ratio. Once she works out the volume in ml for the weight ratio she won't need the scale anymore and can gauge it off the volume.

It's TRUE! I dont work at Starbucks but I work at a coffee shop and that's what we were taught. Do a taste test of a shit that's fresh and if a shot that has sat for awhile. You will be able to taste a difference

I've heard it's about a minute but yes you can absolutely tell if you make straight shots with no milk and let them sit different lengths of time. Personally I notice a settling effect where all the flavor starts to go the bottom and gets more bitter as well

Yep. Shots do expire, but the 10 seconds is BS. I've noticed they start to go stale after 30 seconds. I think the 10 seconds number is to keep their baristas working as fast as possible. Remember to never give 100% at work! 75% max!
