Oh yes the prog masters,they also do a song called odyssey based on homers odyssey,the guitarist is Michael Romeo he is an incredible player and the singer Russel Allen you may have heard singing with Annette Olzon who was the middle vocalist for nightwish everything this guys do is great

These dudes have always been awesome. Lot of heavy stuff, lot of soft stuff, lot of super prog stuff, lot of catchy headbangin metal. If I had one warning its that all their music videos are total ass and there's not a lot of great quality live videos. Hope to see more though!

You are not familiar with Symphony X? They are the best metal band for the last 30 years. Romeo is the best metal songwriter and guitar shredder on the planet. You have a lot of catching-up to do. Go check out more of their stuff. You will be shocked at how amazing they are.

Good question, I have to admit I also didn't catch get Symphony X bug until way later in their career unfortunately so I can definitely empathize with you when you say you wish you had listened to them sooner because now they are one of my all time favourite bands. Great reaction, IMO you correctly pointed out some similarities/influences in the song like Pantera-sounding riffs and Russell Allen sounding similar to Dio for example. Love seeing Symphony X get some well deserved praise. Hope you continue down the Symphony X rabbit hole, it's definitely worth it.

And the funny thing is, they only started sounding Pantera-esque until their album before this one, The Odyssey. Before it, they were almost entirely neoclassical metal and their prog epics were closer to DT. I prefer their neoclassical era, but SX are always complete asskickers.
