Many years ago I made the mistake of letting my wife start getting away with little things. Everything seemed innocent at first. Comming home a little late. Spending the day with her girlfriend etc. I was really busy with my career and really didn't notice everything. Over time she became totally out of control. I would come home and she would walk out and leave me with our small children. As one would imagine she ended up being a serial cheater and destroyed my life. I would have been better off having strict boundaries. If she didn't like it and left it would have been way better than the shit show my life turned into. Even decades later my family is still affected by the mess created by me not holding a low quality woman accountable.
@sebvandenoever39418 ай бұрын
Very recognizable, and good to see you take the blame. Same here, my Ex couldn't handle finances and had a very bad spending habit (gambling). I let all the small irregularities slip as I was biliding my own business to support the family and save lots to be able to take care of our 4 kids. After 3 years i had to confront and she never changed her ways. Had to split up and as she is ruined (financially) I am the one taking care of the 4 kids. It is all my fault as I should have stopped her or left her at the first signs. Lesson learned the hard way and like you ,it still hugely affects my situation today, years later.

Gotta give you props. You 100% owned it instead of making excuses. I did the EXACT same thing & finally had enough & divorced her in 2012. I learned from it & realized ultimately it was ALL my fault. I'm the man & it's my responsibilty to lead the relationship & I failed to do so. I did not vet properly and chose the wrong woman & did not lead, check her, and manage the relationship properly. Have been with a new women since 2018 & things are perfect. She did little shit tests in the beginning & I shut them down quick. Before I would let those tests slide with my ex & other women before her, hoping not to upset any of them & operating out of a scarcity mindset. I learned those tests are natural for women. It's to test your strength or lack of. Fail enough of them & it ends like what you & I lots of other men went through. Ultimately they just lose respect for you & once that's gone you can never get it back

I'm not saying to not be on your guard, but let's not get overly paranoid. There are plenty of reasons for this guy to have avoided this woman, but child support isn't one of them.

She was driving home drunk after i stopped picking her up at 3 or 4 am. I told her to stop doing it, which it did subside for about a month. She started back up, started to lie to me and eventually wanted to leave me. I found out she was texting and most liklely hooking up with guy at her job and he most likely was drinking with them. We are also not young kids anymore, me being 42 and her 38. I was trying to deny what my gut was telling me because in the 6 years she never did anything like that. So I said there's no way she would be cheating or doing something that I wouldn't approve of but she was and I was in denial. Finally we separated and it has been tough because it's only been a few days but the best thing I could have done. I understand that I deserve better than this. I have two businesses. 1) Although she is not single, she frequently visits environments designed for singles, often involving alcohol. Common sense suggests that this could lead to unintended consequences. It is akin to placing your hand close to a flame; eventually, you are likely to get burned. 2) The crux of the matter is as follows: if she truly valued you and the relationship, she would not continuously seek out social activities without you. She would prefer spending her time with YOU, dressing to impress YOU, and enjoying drinks with YOU. If these are not her priorities, it might indicate that she has emotionally exited the relationship a while ago and is merely going through the motions, perhaps benefiting from something you offer, such as free babysitting(paying mortgage), while she enjoys her outings. 3) Actions speak louder than words. It is crucial not to ignore or let others persuade you to overlook your gut intuition. If something feels off to you, it’s an instinctual warning, echoing the experiences of your ancestors, thru your DNA, alerting you to potential issues. Don’t ignore them or let society teach you that you need to ignore them for “modern times”. 4) Read above one more time.

I started an anti anxiety medication about a year ago. It's done wonders for my anxiety but has depleted my libido to near zero. Initially I thought this was a negative side effect. But after a while, I realized it was a positive. I have no desire to pursue women unless they are a good match now. I am no longer being led around by my sex drive which throughout my life has messed with my better judgment. I honestly believe if men did not have libido, they wouldn't even pursue or put up with these types of relationships. The libido is everything and keeps men hungry for it. It's nice finally being free from that. I've also noticed women respond to me more positively now too. I think it's because I don't give off the "I want/need you" attitude as I honestly just don't anymore.

" She never had a chance" . What a fucking copout of an excuse. This woman had to handle life on life's terms so her sense of entitlement must be a way to catch up on that " party life ". What a mess

Not only bottom line needs to be in place and enforced. If she *likes* to cross it, if she shows interest in crossing it, consider it is half crossed and look elsewhere. As you are not on the same page. Anything you hold artificially by force is destined to fail. In this case she has to be the one not to look for external validation and have you as enough. You can enforce rules for her not to go out, but the damage is already there, by the fact she, on her own, is looking for it. So the battle is already lost.

Great post ! The other issue is that people need to find healthier options for social life , like hiking, gym, etc.

Rich made some excellent points. Be firm. Don’t let people walk over you. Have self respect for yourself and others will either obey or go their separate ways.

Wo! "Hire Slowly, Fire Quickly" as Rich wrote about. Good advise. My spin? "Hire slowly, and Fire Instantly" when it comes to red flags like that. Buddy that's an instant $h1T canning situation. BOOT! Thanks for posting. Enjoying your book. Keep up the good work.

I knew a woman who went through a divorce and has a kid from that. She is a total sympathy seeker. She then went online to start dating soon after. Several times she asked me to babysit her kid, to pick him up from school and even help her set up her kid’s party. She even phoned me crying when her kid hurt himself (it was a minor injury) She would also tell me her sob stories about her ex and about guys who pumped and dumped her. In other words she tried to make me her doormat. I was having none of it and while I did initially listen to her sob stories until it became all too common, I told her flat out no for babysitting her kid etc. Although I didn’t play into any of it, I felt disgusted that she would make such outlandish requests. The dude you described has no self-respect whatsoever.

Setting boundaries was the hardest thing for me. I really struggled to do it and it was even hard to enforce them. Now 2 years later, they are easy to enforce and set. I set the same ones for pretty much everybody. Was it hard to start doing? Yes, like moving a mountain. Is it hard now? Nope, I respect myself too much to let ANYONE walk all over me.

I have a 40 year old female friend with 3 young kids. She is separated from her husband, but he doesn't have a decent job, so he lives in the spare room. She goes out 4 nights a week, hubbie stays home baby sitting. She drinks heavily, often arriving home drunk. Recently she has been messing around with a Chad. I told her (as a friend does) to treat her man better, and not mess with a Chad. She didn't like my advice, and so she de-friended me.

Im a 35 yr old married woman w/ 2 under 2 & would never leave my children w/ a man that wasn’t their Father. That should be your first red flag. On a secondary note, any 35 y/o woman wanting to party w/ 21 yr. olds (esp. a Mother) is a HUGE red flag. I would never be partying w/ girls that age & getting wasted in general. The question he should be asking is why is he even remotely attracted to her after this happening even once? What a turn off on both points. Gross

There’s no question that if I woman leaves you with her kids and yours to go and “party” she is getting hammered by other blokes . Don’t even try to argue with her. Pack your bags and leave immediately!

My former wife, toward the end of our marriage, was hitting Salsa joints through out the DC/Baltimore area, all while having kids at home that needed her. Upon learning of an affair, I secured our finances in my name so she could not leverage those resources in family court.
