@@bdavis7801 Exactly! My point is how didn't they know earlier that they couldn't get that dress in her size? It's there a sizing chart (even if it's approx) for each dress in their computer? Also Lori wants to call her boutique the best, then they need to have a better range of sizes for their larger brides. Them and the designer are already choking them on price, I'm sure that can fit in a few more plus size dresses.

As someone who has been in the wedding industry for almost 20 years 1. The should NEVER have charged her the extra 2. The store should of known what sizes their stock comes in. 3. They should of gifted her a veil etc or offered a discount for the inconvenience. Unacceptable. That price is ridiculous.

It did strike me as strange that the store did not seem as prepared the second time around. I don't know how much advance notice they were given for this appointment--maybe not a lot--but they really screwed up the first time (how did they put her in a dress that was not available in her size?), so they should have been better prepared for "success" this time. I assume they already had the bride's measurements and price point. Based on those two things, why offer a return visit if you don't think you're likely to be able to satisfy the client? And if the veil was an unanticipated obstacle to dress selection, then offer an alternate veil to the client for free. (The bride might be able to sell the one she had already purchased.) I imagine it was the editing, but the manager sounded like the bride's size in and of itself was already a huge limitation--and then you've got the limited price point and the veil--and they were being asked to work miracles. If that was the case, then maybe don't offer a return visit. Just suggest an alternate store where the bride might have better luck, and leave it at that. I assume Lori's store does not work with other bridal shops to share inventory (plus size dresses, dresses in various colors, and so on) when necessary.

There's also the possibility that the first dress came in plus size but stopped a size or so before the size she needed so they thought it would be available and it wasn't. Mistakes happen, I have seen it multiple times, being plus size myself, where a company will offer my size but only on some articles. So if you ask the regular size worker they think it does come in your size but find out after that it doesn't. If you add the fact that every shop has different measurements for the same size it can get pretty complicated.

As a tailor, I have several issues with the shop for this episode: 1. Plus size options are limited. They knew she was plus size the minute they laid eyes on her at the first appointment. They should have pulled dresses and checked to see if the dresses were available in her size before putting them on her. 2. While pulling dresses, explain that there may be a high surcharge if a gown has to be custom ordered to accommodate a plus size. When you explain that the new dress requires a redesign, additional materials, and a lot of extra labor hours, customers are reasonable. Blind siding them at the end of the appointment is what makes customers angry. This also gives customers a chance to reevaluate their budget. They can prepare to pay more, or they can lower the price of the dress to make room for surcharges. 3. Ask if there are any additional themes or criteria for the dress. This is NOT the first time a bride has come in with a veil, although veils that need to be matched are usually family heirlooms. Other questions that need to be asked for dress matching: do you have your wedding colors picked? Do you have samples of the colors so you can see what those colors will look like with your dress? Will you be wearing a corset under your dress? Will you be wearing flats or heels? Will your hair be up or down? When I make custom pieces for customers, I ask A LOT of questions. I apologize for the questions, but they know it will give them the result they want and prevent dissatisfaction. The vast majority of the time, I can actually exceed expectations because the questions give me so much to work with.

If the price is the same for ALL sizes like you claim (and you listed a large size range) the cost of the larger dresses is folded into the smaller ones. I love Robyn and I know she was doing whatever she could and I think she was shocked at how much extra it would cost..... They should make the extra pricing much easier to see on the labelling in store (even if it's just three example prices at different standard size points, so you have a rough idea before putting the bride in the dress). They should also label up to show maximum (and minimum) size available so brides aren't disappointed.

This stuff is made in sweatshops so it really isn’t justified. Most of the stuff we see on here is made in factories. I knew some girls who worked in a factory in Canada, so, fortunately well-paid on piecework. They bring the components over and assemble it here. All this European designer stuff you get is made by little girls close to the point of sale. The girl who serves your breakfast at the diner might have made your Chanel bracelet or Swarovski earrings.

@BettyAlexandriaPride
@BettyAlexandriaPride 3 жыл бұрын
@@charlieblackrose I agree, I don't think they're mutually exclusive. I also would like for my money to go to those who worked on my dress. I'm not perfect by any stretch, but I do make an effort to purchase handmade clothing and jewelry or at the least find sustainable fast fashion alternatives. If it's something I like and can't find ethically, then sometimes I'll still purchase it, but I do try not to. In the case of my wedding dress, it will be bespoke, so my money will go directly to my seamstress. I really think the labeling could be a standard practice. I know ahead of time I can't shop at certain bra stores because they don't carry my size. I'm not a large woman and I don't appear to need a "large" bra size. However, my cup in relation to my band size is what I consider a "little" F (or E once I lose my quarantine weight.) I am usually a 32E when I'm at my smallest weight and a 34F when I gain. My largest weight had me at a 36FF/34G, and I tend to like a smaller band size so I would order my sister size. A 32E looks small on my frame, because it is. I'm pear shaped. That doesn't change the fact that it's harder to find my size and sometimes if my band is too small, plus size bra companies can't service me, either. It would make shopping easier. 😅 (for reference, I'm 5'5.5" and my smallest weight is in the 150's. Because I'm pear shaped, the smaller I am, the more my ribs show so I try not to go lower than that.)

@@BettyAlexandriaPride I totally hear you. I don't think any of us can be perfect but it's good to just try our best & be aware as consumers ❤ I love the idea with your wedding dress, and honestly it'll still probably come in cheaper than some of the extra charges they seem to apply - my jaw dropped at $1600 and I agree with Alison that it's almost certainly not going back to the artisans as I am not at all convinced that doesn't include a ridiculous mark up (BUT I am not a seamstress).... I've often thought labelling with a FULL breakdown of costs including wage for x artisan hours would be wonderful to see. More transparency and accountability at every level. I live in the UK and I am really struggling to get sustainable formal work clothes in my size and style at the moment, and I'm at the lower limit of plus sizing usually... which is just above the UK average women's clothes size, which is a whole other rant too. It is extremely frustrating that neither "standard" nor plus sizing don't cater for a range of body shapes more, both in terms of design and in terms of range of sizing provided. Silk taffeta most definitely costs more than $20. It can easily run $50 per yard or more, and depending on the drape and style, you could need several yards. I'm not saying that $1600 is entirely justified, but as someone who sews, I can tell you the time (designer/seamstress labour would be several hours on adjustments) and cost of materials to customize a pattern and make a larger size is significant. @@lilyofthevalley7573 No, it is their fault for not knowing what size range a stock model is available in, and if there is any increased cost for that particular size. @@lilyofthevalley7573 I'm pretty sure they're the same as every other bridal store. They will stock 3-5 sizes of each design and then an entire range of sizes for the designs that are priced at the low-median price point. It's basic stocking principles. Unless you are buying a dress from the rack or on markdown, everything is ordered, so not stocked. There's a difference between the count of stock per design and the overall stock holding.

@@Briael yes, but times that by 100 or even 300 different dresses. They have alot of dresses and designers, who all have different sizes. Sometimes it gets tough keeping track of every size, that and designers can cut sizes at any given moment. So they mightve had a certain size at one point, but since they didn't sell enough the designers could decide not to make it anymore.

Agree, and some types of dresses do not look good in different sizes. The designer would not like to put his or her name on a dress that will not look good on a plus size bride. It is sad, but a real dilemma.

@@MsJubjubbird You evidently don't understand how the bridal industry works. They get in a range of sizes for stock dresses to be tried on. That's why you see so many dresses clipped during the appointment. Then, the required size is ordered for the individual bride. No store can afford to buy all sizes for all stock. That's just not practical (store space) or financially viable. All designer ranges come with a stock sheet that details what sizes are available, how much they cost and the lead time for order completion. If they failed to check it before showing the dress, then they certainly failed to check it when they made the sale.

Oh you're speaking truth. Nothing against these upscale bridal shops. They cater to these starry-eyed brides that equate spending top dollar for a dress they'll only wear 1 time as the only way to go. I beg to differ. I've seen some great looking dresses at half the prices of some of the ones featured on this show at some lesser known boutiques. But hey it's their money.

Getting a plus size dress was so difficult that I ended up having a friend who is a seamstress just make me one. Had I known about the shop in Essex, I would have flown there. Plus size women aren't a small demographic and regardless of what you think of our weight, we deserve to love our dress as much as any other girl. The experiences I had at bridal shops were horrific, humiliating and down right discriminatory.

I am so unimpressed, I would not shop there on principle. And as that means nothing, I would say I would warn other people not to shop there either. Just so many bad judgements. Bad service - and those responsible are PLEASED with themselves!!! The family could have got so much more going to a seamstress. For far less. If American girls can, I would at least go to the large size shop on UK, where they are treated kindly, professionally... WHAT PROFESSIONAL DOESN'T CHECK DRESS SIZE AND COSTS OF CHANGES, BEFORE SUGGESTING IT. $1600 extra! That has probably cost them 1600 large size brides.
