I Went On A Roadtrip Unlike Any Other In The World

As a foreigner traveling in Sri Lanka I try all forms of transportation in one day on my way from little paradise Mirissa on the sea to the mountains of Ella. Train, bus, car, tuktuk you name it and on the way meet the Sri Lankan locals hard at work. From the wild beaches, through the even wilder nature with elephants and monkeys, to the cool jungle heights of the the Sri Lankan highlands.

I also like these kinds of detours... Due to the nature of my job(Military service), I had done a lot of them in 🇮🇳 Rickshaw/Autoricshaw, bus/train, military Aircrafts (both fixed wing and helicopter) and then Taxi to reach place B. It's hectic sometimes but a lot of good memories too

As a Sri Lankan, it saddens me when people claim that Sri Lanka is a smaller version of India or very similar to it. After visiting New Delhi, India, I felt proud of the Sri Lankan people. Our citizens are more civilized and hospitable, making an effort to follow rules and readily helping others. During my stay in New Delhi, aggressive beggars near Connaught Place sought money in a violent way, and there were numerous scams. The Indian people on the streets appeared very aggressive and confrontational. Additionally, the hygiene standards were lacking in the three-star hotels I stayed in, as they did not change bed sheets and other items after guest checkouts. For example, in India, service providers like shoe cleaners would persistently follow me, even when politely declined, causing considerable bother. In Sri Lanka, such encounters are not typical. Throughout my two weeks in New Delhi, I felt unsafe and disappointed, particularly with the people I encountered. While India excels in technology, the economy, and infrastructure, there is no doubt about it; when it comes to civilization and societal values, I feel Sri Lankans are 1000 times better than some of the Indians. This comment is not a generalization about all Indians but is based on the specific individuals I met on the streets during my experiences. Unfortunately during my stay I didn't get any chance to meet friendly Indians in New Delhi but I'm pretty sure there may be many friendly people.

Maharashtra is a big state. You have to explore Mumbai more then other big cities of Maharashtra like Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, Lonavala, etc. Then should visit Telangana's capital city Hyderabad. Then visit Andhra Pradesh big cities like kakinada, Vishakhapatnam. Then Karnataka's capital Bangalore as well as Karnataka's cultural capital Mysore. God's own country and Full of natural beauty State Kerala is also waiting for you. Visit Kochi, Munnar, Wayanad, and coastal Kerala there. You will see immense of natural beauty including greenery, house boats floating on back water, and Arabian Sea. Tamilnadu is also very big and full of ancient Hindu Dravidian style temples. Then come to North. You will be overwhelmed with the hospitality of Indians from North part also. Come first to most populated state Uttarpradesh. Visit Lucknow the capital city. Lucknow is known for its hospitality and manners and more than that for their variety of Street food😋. Other cities of UP are also good like Varanasi(most renowned religious city for Hindus in North India), Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Aligarh, Bareilly, Meerut. Then go to Delhi the capital of India. If you like talking to people and roaming in the streets. Delhi is for you. You will also find cheapest fancy street market in Delhi. You can visit capital type things in Delhi and that is in New Delhi like Red fort, Rashtrapati Bhavan, India gate, etc. You must must visit Swaminarayan Temple of Delhi. This temple is amazing. If you want to explore hi-tech Cities of India you can visit Gurugram and Noida that is in Delhi NCR region. Then You must visit renowned Street food capital and cleanest city of India that is Indore situated in Madhya Pradesh(Central province). If you like wildlife part, you must visit wildlife sanctuary of Rewa, MP. Then come to West of India. States like Rajasthan and Gujarat is full of delicious😋 foods and welcoming people. Then go to North most states of India like Uttrakhand, Himachal, Jammu and Kashmir, Laddakh. These are full of mountains and you can say Europe of India means these are more cooler than the other parts of India. Then come to East i.e., West Bengal, Odisha. Please go to Kolkata, WB during Durga Puja. It will be memorable visit for long time for you. Please come to India in 15th August and stay here Till December. In between you will have independence day of India, Raksha Bandhan, Durga Puja and Diwali to celebrate. These are big festivals of India celebrated all over India. Go to Bihar also.
