the fact that bulova finally made a classy looking watch is point one. They put a sapphire on it, two. The precisionist movement, three. Fantastic! It's not a daily wear simply because of the mixed polished and brushed surfaces. The polished will scratch, the brushed with polish making it look just like a mixed bag and difficult to restore. So I can understand the crown, WR and lume. overall, It's a good step. They could take this watch, make a sturdy daily wear version, all brushed bracelet or a strap, excellent lume and 100+ wr, would be killer.

That last paragraph is a great suggestion, I'd love to see them use this movement in more interesting and different pieces, cheers for the comments 🍻 😎

I like that idea! They really should do more styles and variety with this movement, they have a winner here. I'm also hoping that in future they could possibly invent some kind of feature mix of this movement and Citizen's Eco Drive solar, as Citizen owns Bulova.

Wow, bought this watch last year and am loving every moment that I wear it. The red dial is an absolute smash with the contrasting bright white second hand. The bright red markers also are cool and the bracelet is comfortable. I am hoping that Bulova could make one in bright blue that is similar to their 1970's watches in the neon blue. I will be on wait list even if they abuse me like Rolex did, LOL. :-)

Got the anthracite (black) version from the UK. Bought it for the claimed accuracy. I've only had it 15 days but so far (in Canada) and I can't discern any time loss or gain. Using an internet atomic time server to check it several times a day. I'm impressed, my old quartz watch was losing 35 seconds a month. A watch that tells the correct time--what a concept.

I saw one of these last week at a department store whilst shopping. The first thing I thought was that you would love that dial color. The watch is very nice, but the price is at my upper limit for a quartz, and I’m not a fan of the crown not being screw down. Otherwise it’s a stunner. Great review as always.

Fabulous review of this lovely looking watch, thanks. I think I'll buy one (I already have a couple of 262 KHz Bulovas, can't get enough of that sweeping second hand!). The trick I think they missed: "Jet Star" is a great name ...SO PUT IT ON THE BLOODY DIAL! My Bulova Sea King has its name on the dial, just as you'd expect, and I'd love this one just a little bit more if it proudly displayed that mad-but-brilliant Jet Star name.

I picked up this version in the, "Merlot," a few months ago. I've long been a fan of the Precisionist movement. I'm glad Bulova is moving more towards their back catalogue than their more brutalist and let's be honest non functional diver style cases they've been churning out for the last few years. Battery life for these movements are about three years. The biggest con for me on this reissue is the white sweeping seconds hand. Wht they didn't just leave it polished silver is beyond me.

The last lowest price was $344. but it also is sold out. They do have the red,white, and blue limited edition for $399. but the look of that one does not appeal to me, limited edition or not. I've also ordered the Surveyor in what Bulova calls Pistachio with the leather strap. Don't care for the leather with that beautiful green, more like Peridot than Pistachio in my view. I ordered the same stainless bracelet right from Bulova that is shown on the Surveyor automatic in red. It will be a better choice in my opinion. Enjoyed your video, thanks very much.

The dial would be great if the date window wasn't just an afterthought. Coupled with end links that don't blend with the lugs and it's a hard pass from me. Also, 12.5 mm is pushing it into cuff catching territory, so it would fail as a GADA.
@nextonthewrist
@nextonthewrist 4 ай бұрын
Fair enough, as a more vintage inspired design I don't have an issue with the end link and case integration...the physical fit is solid and a lot of vintage watches didn't have the 'modern blend'...it does go under a cuff (just) as a lot of the thickness is crystal but it would be a rare occasion not an everyday dress piece - for sure it would soon be an irritant in the regard. Normally I wear it with sweatpants and a tshirt as thats my go to 😆 in all honesty I don't see a lot of shirts anymore even at work it's all polos and golf shirts 🤔....but all very valid points and appreciate your comments and perspective 🙂🍻

@@nextonthewrist Well, I'm pretty bummed out. A Jet Star doesn't work on a Lunar Pilot wrist. It looked like a happy meal toy on my wrist, it wasn't even close to being big enough and looked terrible on me. I had to drive about an hour to get to an AD that actually had it in stock but as soon as I put it on, I knew right away that it was way too small. Initially, my heart said "Get it anyway!" and I was going to but I put it on my wrist a second time and I just knew that buying it would have been irresponsible. See, my wrists are flat and broad rectangles with pretty square corners. They're not really round at all and that's just my bone structure because my wrists aren't fat, they're just skin, tendon and bone. They're about 7¼" around but they're 40mm tall and 60mm wide with abrupt corners. My sweet spot is a minimum of 44mm and a maximum of 47mm. Like, I'm wearing my "night watch" right now, a watch I never wear during the day because it's only 42mm in diameter and looks quite small on me. I use it at night because it has tritium tubes so reading it is never an issue. I have a 44mm version of it on order so that should be better. Today was pretty harrowing though because today I learned that I cannot pull off a 40mm watch, the most common size in the industry. It really sucks because I wanted that watch so bad and the AD had marked it down to $626CAD from $895. The silver lining is that I knew better than to order it online, I knew that I had to try it on because the three main watches that I wear are a Bulova Lunar Pilot, a Tissot Seastar 2000 and an Invicta Grand Diver #3049. Those are 45mm, 46mm and 47mm respectiely and they fit pretty much perfectly. I'll just have to hope and pray that Bulova makes a "Jumbo Jet Star" for their Lunar Pilot customers because that second hand is just so beautifully mesmerising. Sure, I could just get one of their extant Precisionist models because they are big enough but they're just so damn UGLY! I mean, those dials are so busy that they make my eyes bleed. Other than the size (and the paltry 50m of WR), the silver Jet Star's dial is absolute perfection. Clean and fun but still classy. You know, my friends joke around about the "magic trick" that I do when I take a small clock (which is how they refer to my Lunar Pilot, Seastar 2000 and Grand Diver), strap it to my wrist and "Abracadabra!" it turns into a normal-looking wristwatch. I guess that Rumplestiltskin was right. Magic always comes with a price.

@@AvroBellow I'm sorry to hear it didn't work out, at least you know now for future. It's a good reminder to me on how varied are collection journeys can be just on wrist shape and size 🙂👍 I would expect lug to lug to be a key dimension for you also, occasionally I come across a 42 with super long lugs which I guess would work better for a larger wrist whereas I'm right on the limits at that point. On the plus side for you a lot of the larger case sizes end up with much bigger discounts on grey markets like Joma etc. so you should be primed to get some great deals in this case diameter category. Keep enjoying the collecting 😎🍻

@@nextonthewrist That's true but the most beautiful and iconic watches are all around 40mm. I actually sent a message to Bulova about it. I asked them to make a 44mm version and call it the "Jumbo Jet Star" (pretty catchy name, eh?) and I pointed out to them that a crap-tonne of their Lunar Pilot customers would LOVE to get their hands on a silver-dialed Jet Star like the 96K112 with the royal and crimson accents. Bulova has a history of listening to consumers (like with the Lunar Pilot Mini) and they just might do it.

Hey Avrobello, Your wrist description sounds exactly like mine. I have 2 great recommendations for you. They also have the precisionist movement with that smooth sweep (sixteen beats per second), That's why it looks like the second hand is vibrating, high beat auto avg. 8 per sec and max at 10 per sec. (Zenith). The first recommendation is Bulova 96B349, 47mm wide by 52mm lug to lug, 300m water resist. Second recommendation is Bulova 96B228, 48mm wide by 55mm lug to lug, also 300m water resistance. Both very large with long sweeping second hand. Good luck to your finding a watch to match your wrist, we sound similar in your description except I'm 7.5. I think it should be common sense, but you don’t get something for nothing: In this case, the highly active quartz movement burns more energy than most other quartz watches. Therefore, it has a bigger battery (thicker watch) and it needs more frequent battery changes. The manual suggests a battery change once a year.

Agreed on all your points - it took me a while to really appreciate quartz but I'm glad I did. The Oceanus is a cracker and of course the grand seiko is top drawer. Thanks for stopping by 🙂🍻

They were even better when they were 10 seconds a year. Now the 262khz are 5 seconds a month…

I'm on target for within 10 seconds per year so far 👍

I have it over a month on the wrist and hasn't lost a second! I would say its to do with cost associated with those claims so they are playing it safe. This movement is as accurate as the GS quartz with a much nicer sweeping seconds hand. It's a no brainer! Just not hyped!

Pity that, like Longines, they insist on only making the larger case size on their HPQ as it rules these fantastic watches for a sizeable subset of the population. I wonder if they do this in Asia where 36mm is still a very popular size. Finally, the date window is terrible given the vibrancy of the dial; colour-match it or drop it IMHO... I would hope that the accuracy is far, far better than they quote as most of my Seiko + Citizen quartz pieces are +/- 1 sec per week or better and they are all far cheaper than this Bulova.

Sizing I agree, small would be a good addition and a colored date window is always nice. I don't know of any affordable quartz Seikos that keep anywhere near the accuracy of this, and I have had a fair few. Do you have a specific Seiko movement think is better? I lost 2 seconds in around 4 months with this Bulova which is absolutely remarkable, I'm hugely impressed by it and I think it offers the best of quartz technology at the price - obviously not competing vs. atomic clock sync and Bluetooth sync like the casios and citizens as that's cheating and not actually the quartz being accurate... 😆

I mean dress watches can be in the hundreds of thousands $$$ and you'd not expect a screw down, but for an everyday piece for me I prefer the added security 🙂👍
